Everything an Adirondack bar and grill should be. Rustic decor and lots of draft beers.
The casual "pub" menu offers soups and burgers, some seriously good wings,  and pizzas and such. The summer tourist season strains the capacity of the dining room and the kitchen, so sit back, sip on a beer, and remember why you came to the Adirondacks in the first place. If you can't relax here you need counseling - speak to the bartender. I'll be the tall one at the bar with the Pinot.

Let me state this up front--I have not ordered food or drink here because I was not given the opportunity. They seemed to have an okay selection of craft beers, which is admirable, especially considering they're way out in the boonies.

I've been visiting Schroon Lake for 24 years, family members own a home there. For most of that time, I was underage so I had never visited Flanagan's.

Early last fall I stopped in here for a beer (we had already eaten) with three friends while walking through town on a Saturday night around 8:30 or 9. There were no seats left at the bar, but there was not a soul sitting at ANY table in the restaurant area. We asked for a table and we were told we had to order dinner there to get a table, drinks weren't good enough. I explained to the hostess that we didn't need table service, we were happy to go get our drinks at the bar, we just wanted a place to sit. No, she told us, we could only have a table if we ordered dinner, she had to save the tables for customers who ordered food. Trying to remain polite, I asked her where these dinner customers were coming from and when they might arrive--it's 9 o'clock in a tiny vacation town and it's not vacation season anymore. She was not open to reasoning with me and became very rude. If we wanted to patronize the establishment and wouldn't buy dinner, she told us, we would have to wait till seats opened up at the bar.

So we left and I will probably go another 24 years before I go here in search of a beer. I can't understand a bar that turns away customers because they "just want a drink," especially when business is obviously slow. I guess next time I'll drive to Glens Falls.

was in the area on weekend vacation from nyc. biggest town within hour drive radius. we had little choice but to come to this area for food. one of the bartender had terrible attitude. she's like the school teacher that no one likes. personally i think bartenders are suppose to be fun, and she's just a debbie downer with a bad attitude. but i give the drinks a star cause my cocktail was really good, only 7 dollars so cheap(comin from new york)!
spinach artichoke dip was pretty tasty, salisbury steak was average, and their ginger glazed salmon was not so good. the salmon was frozen for sure and it was dry. i recommend completely thawing it out then keep on ice next time before cooking.
also the animal heads were freaking me out. im not a fan of hunting at all and i feel distracted and watched when eating my food by half cut up dead animals.
i mean seriously, imagine in a parallel universe, where the humans were the hunted and u see human heads with their necks stuck up on a wall. how is this normal and acceptable to people? i will never understand.

Always liked Flanagans, the pizza is the best as are all the sandwiches.  The burgers a large and the service has always been good.  Some good beers on tap.

Like others have said, the wings are really great here. The pizza is also probably the best in the area. I've never encountered bad service here, but that may be because I've only went on weekends.

Fail. I should have read the reviews.

This place had terrible service, over priced, and average food.

Okay so I almost feel bad calling out the terrible service. I guess we were "warned" that there was only one server on when we arrived, but when our food came (1.5 hours later...no...really) there were 3 or 4 ladies walking around delivering food. I can't believe how much time we waited for our food, when we arrived there were 3 other tables that were there. So I understand that for one waitress that may mean it takes a while for her to get to us...but after waiting probably 30 minutes for a waitress why does it take an hour to make a burger, a chicken patty, and a veggie burger. The burger was ordered med-rare so it didn't even need to be cooked that long.

I seriously have no idea what happened. But there was no apology for it taking FOREVER, or no explanation for that either. So when we finally got our food we were just hoping it'd be incredible. The fries were standard irish fries. boring, and bland. The veggie burger was quite good although I needed to order it w/out a bun because the bread has egg in it or something. Apparently the burger and chicken patty were both good but nothing to write home about. We all agreed that had the food come out in a timely manner we probably would have been more appreciative of the food.

Guess how much you pay for a veggie patty (no bun) and fries (no chips). 12 dollars. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!!?! seriously. First of all I asked for fries on the side...not as a chip replacement, so when you replaced my chips I assumed that was in the cost for the veggie burger. It wasn't. Our final bill for a meal that took 1 1/2 hours to be delivered with only two coffees, a chicken patty, a veggie burger with fries, and a burger with fries cost 37 dollars. WHAT A JOKE.  She never even mentioned that the fires were an additional cost and even offered them to my brother as "oh did you want fries instead of chips too". He had no idea it wasn't a trade option. UGH. Terrible.

I'm going to contend that this is the third most important business in The ADK (following any emergency outdoor gear supplier & Stewart's). Why would a seemingly run of the mill Irish Pub render such import?

Wings. Buffalo Wings. Traditional Buffalo Wings.

Why are wings so important? For the ADK hiker, backpacker (say, after 8500 ft. elevation climbing, 11+ miles of ascending and descending rocky, root-y, mountains), the most important thing might just be a cold draft beer and buffalo wings. And, Flanagan's supplies just that.

For over two years I've heard the hype -- all possible hype of these wings. And finally, I hiked for twelve hours and found myself at Flanagan's.

These wings live up to the hype. I had the "hottest as possible" variety, and they were pipin' and teetering at the top of the Scoville Scale. I also had the "medium" and they still had a late capsicum kick. There's one meat dish that I've devoured over & over & have consistently broken my pescetarian promise for... & it's the Buffalo Wing.

Crispy. Dense. Thick. Drenched in housemade sauce (of the vinegar kind), this will reintroduce your body to heavy calories immediately after a long day on the trail.

Cold draft beer? Most of the craft options were not up to snuff, and / or were bready, yeasty and basically left undrank by the other folks at the bar so they all tasted like old, orphaned ales.

    Except Yuengling. Whoa.

Everyone I dined with got wings and a burger, and they were summarily satisfied. I wandered off to the salmon burger & fried fish dinner. I don't recommend wandering off the range -- stay in their wheelhouse: wings & beer.

Can't imagine how this place is still in business. The service is routinely terrible, the food is crappy even by "bar and grill" standards. Their  self-declared "famous" wings are small and greasy, with sauce that tastes straight from the bottle. Their pizza was burnt both times. Beer tasted like the system and taps had never been cleaned. It's a shady dive bar that just renovated it's storefront to make it look less dive-ish, but don't be fooled. Timberwolf is a better bar and Decesare's is a better restaurant. Skip this place.

Very disappointed.  Something must have changed in the last year. Service was awful and food was mediocre.  It was not busy at all.

Casual, relaxed atmosphere with rustic decor. The food is excellent. Definitely try their French onion soup!

Wonderful 'home town' pub and grill for the guys, gals and entire family.  Open all year with good spirits and food.  You can find the owners there most days "Penny & Doug" so they care
