This place reminds me of what it might be like to have breakfast/brunch with Mr. Rogers. There's a model train that circles the restaurant, perched just above eye level, with Hershey's and Reese's Pieces trailers in tow. It's rustic-cabin style at its best, with christmas lights strewn about, and an air of tourist-pleasing mom & pop cozy-ness.
Immediately upon walking in, my friends and I shouted, "OMG IT SMELLS SO GOOD". We thought it was the smell of buttermilk pancakes wafting through the air. But no...later we discovered, it's really just an incredibly powerful Maple Syrup Pancake candle...And you thought discovering there's no Santa Claus was disappointing. This took it to a whole new level of deception:).
That aside, our table ordered a slew of breakfast dishes: buttermilk pancakes with maple butter, eggs benedict, a traditional eggs over easy + bacon + home fries, french toast. I had the eggs benedict, and it was cooked just right, with a perfectly poached egg, Hollandaise sauce, and ham.
All of us devoured every morsel and crumb, and on the way out, browsed the Flapjack Gallery...essentially a gallery of things you can make with pancakes, i.e. a Van Gogh pancake and one the shape of the Kancamagus highway...too cute.
Awesome breakfast place! Â Staff was friendly. Â Comfortable atmosphere.
love the model trains moving around the restaurant walls. Â keeps kids and adults equally entertained.
Ordered buffalo chicken omelet - never seen it on the menu elsewhere. Â Great amount of sauce and blue cheese.
One of the best places in the area for breakfast. If we are up early enough in the moring and in the area, we always make it a point to stop in. Be prepared though, this place can get PACKED.
We did get lucky last time we stopped in and got right in a seated. Once seated, it took no time for our server to stop over, fill us up with some tea and take our orders. I usually never like to spend a lot of time on breakfast, and this place wastes no time. Though, if you like to sit and enjoy, there is not problem with that it seems eaither. Our meals were out in no time and were excellent. After all was said and done, we were in and out in much less than an hour. Kudos!
Always a great place to stop in for a quick bite in the morning, always great service and great food!
Get there early, this place really draws quite the crowd. Â Service was friendly and if taunted, throws the 'tude right back at you in a friendy fun manner. Â If you are hungry, go for the "Hungry as a Bear" plate. Â filled with eggs, bacon, sausage and choice of french toast or flapjacks, you can't go wrong. Â Omeletes are amazing and will keep you full and ready for the slopes or trails all day long.
Review Source:Good breakfast, good prices! But for a place named flapjacks, I would have hoped for some life changing pancakes. I ordered the chocolate chip pancakes; they were ok but I have had definitely had better at either Denny's, IHOP, or Original House of Pancakes.
But for a complete breakfast, with eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries AND pancakes for $10-$12....you really cant beat this.
Credit goes to Jason for convincing me that "the long line just means that it's the best in town!" when I'm showing my "hangry" attitude. Â Ridiiiculous line in the morning (best get there before 9am), but if you DO encounter a line : STAY!!! Â Jason was RIGHT : BEST - IN - TOWN.
This little eatery is decorated au northern exposure (very tourist-rustic) - wood paneling, birch limbs scattered with twinkle lights, and a teeny model train which snakes its way in-out-and-around the two dining areas. Â *I loved it* Â When our wonderfully friendly server, Ron, arrived he took our beverage order: a "Mim-moose-a" and a "Comeau-sa" (champagne with grapefruit, and champagne with cranberry - 6$ ea).
Sunday morning feasting yielded pumpkin pancake special for moi (served with house-made maple butter); three 6"diameter flapjacks tasting of autumn, served with a dollop of maple butter (and a wee candy corn garnish!). Â Ron was proud to tell us that the PURE maple syrup is from "a tree 10 miles up the road" Â - - - and I'm about eating local. Â Jason got the "3#" (french toast, bacon, sausage, 2 eggs, homefries) and he looked pretty pleased with what was placed in front of him. Â "The sausage was juicy and Ron even asked HOW I wanted my bacon cooked! Â Crispayyyyy," says he. Â The rosemary potatoes were seasoned well and fried up PERFECTLY (this is from my own accord - I might have played the seagull of this duo). Â He couldn't finish the plate - though he contemplated the feat. Â When Ron came over to see how our meals were, all I could do was look up with big eyes, smile, and say, "I'm in my happy place."
SO - GOOD! Â Great spot for one, two, or you +2 little ones (just prepare for a line on your way to flapjack bliss). Â No healthy options here - so check your diet at the door and prepare for de-lightenment.
A pancake place is tied for the highest-rated restaurant of any type in the Lincoln-Woodstock area? Well, I'm not sure I'd go that far, but as far as pancakes and related fare, I agree. Pancakes tend to all taste the same, but theirs had a special flavor, particularly with their special maple syrup. Home fries were also very good. The maple flavored beans were quite unusual -- I loved them, my wife thought they were too sweet. Contrary to a prior post, there are now some egg alternatives available -- egg whites or eggbeaters. Hours are very limited, at least this time of year (September). We missed out the first time we came because they are closed at noon on weekdays and all day on Tuesdays and Wednesdays -- so be sure to check their schedule in advance.
Review Source:FANTASTIC! My fiancee and I ate here every day on vacation, food is excelent, priced very well and they have a very friendly staff. The food is so good one time we ended up waiting an hour (simple mix up in the kitchen) but it was worth the wait, If ever we are in Lincoln again Flapjacks is definitely on my list of places to eat.
Review Source:Simply amazing, the homefries were the best I ever ate!!
We came here after reading the reviews on Yelp and knew this would be a great place. We were happy when we walked in and saw the wooden bear statue sporting a Johnson and Wales chef hat as we knew we were in good hands!
We arrived shortly before 9 AM on a Saturday and were happy to be seated right away as the line was out the door by the time we left around 9:30 or so. Make sure to get there early or be prepared to wait.
The place is very clean and the decor is bright and inviting. They have a model train that made it's way around the porch dining area and interior dining area on a never ending loop. My son loved it and it kept him really occupied while waiting for the food to arrive.
I opted for the standard 2 eggs, 2 sausages, 2 pieces of bacon, 2 pancakes. Everything was great, the sausages were delicious, the bacon was thick cut, the pancakes were amazing and came with cinnamon flavor butter that was a nice touch and of course real maple syrup. But the homefries, they were like a religious experience to me. They were made with a mixture of regular potatoes and new potatoes, thinly sliced served with nice chunks of sweet onion and cooked up in butter and generously seasoned. I ate mine, then I ate Mrs. M's and then the boys. I finally stopped myself when I got the urge to ask the next table over if they would be finishing theirs...
Mrs. M loved her pancakes too, but wasn't as fond of the homefries as I was, although she thought everything was good too. The little man loved it all, but couldn't have cared less for the food after he saw that train.
The waitress was OK, she forgot to change the boy's bacon for sausage and took a long time getting him his cranberry juice, but did well otherwise.
Great place, if I'm ever in the area I will be back without a moment's hesitation.
The pancakes are delicious, no doubt about it. But the coffee is awful. And I got a chuckle from all the signs that tout ingredients from scratch and pure maple syrup vs corn syrup -- only to get a plastic tub full of creamers for my coffee. You know, the kind that don't need to be refrigerated and just hang out all day in that tub. Strange for a specialty breakfast joint.
Also, went early Friday morning and the waitress who greeted us was warm and friendly. The waitress who served us was cold and clammy. Brought us the check while we were halfway through our meal. I didn't like that since there was an open table in her section and no wait.
Sitting in the middle of the left wing is problematic because the floor boards are loose, so every time someone walks past, you bounce up and down in your seat. Can be dicey on a busy shift.
Bottom line: you'll get delicious pancakes and crispy bacon (yum) but not much else.
Lincoln's worst-kept secret apparently! This gem has great breakfast and reasonable prices. I was in the area last weekend and was disappointed to only make it in once (our return trip on Sunday proved fruitless as the line was too long to hold our interest).
p.s. Real maple syrup included.
There may be a wait but worth it. Tasty pancakes and sausages. Love the train that goes all around the building. (Great cinnamon flavored butter, too)
It's only open until noon or 1pm, depending on the day.
This is probably one of the best places for breakfast in all of the White Mountains...really.
I don't know why I ventured into a place called "flapjacks" ans ordered the eggs benedict...but I am sure glad I did... They were delicious... great portion size and just the right amount of flavourful well done home-fries to accompany these poached pillows of hollandaise covered deliciousness.
The only downer was I ordered a glass of water with lemon and I was brought out not a slice of lemon as I have come to expect.....but a bottled of lemon juice...blaaaahhh... yuck..
I guess we had the waitress whose schtick was to give the customers a hard time.. but I didn't mind.... she reminded me of "Flo" from the 70's sitcom "Alice"...
I was hoping I could rile her enough to get her to ask me to kiss her grits.
If we are back up for a visit to Loon.. I will surelyy stop by flapjacks again, maybe this time I'll try the flapjacks... and oh maybe some grits.
Time to expand my reviews to another state...big move for a Rhode Islander. Â We stopped by Flapjacks in Lincoln, NH while on vacation, mind you during the "off" season.
This is a cute little place tucked in on the Main Street in Lincoln next to Loon Mountain. Â From the outside nothing special, however that is the only issue. Â You spend a looooooooooong time looking at it from the outside. Â The wait has always been super long and the hours are limited. Â Take us over an hour with three young hungry kids to get in...ugh.
However, once you are in....ENJOY!!! Â You would think that a pancake is a pancake, not here. Â Not sure the secret, but dont care either...get the pancakes, any pancake and you will be happy. Â Both in the yummy taste and the size and quantity. Â Also the "boss", my wife, got eggs. Â No sure why you would get eggs at a place called Flapjacks, but she said they were awesome.
The kids loved the trains running above you throughout the building, nice touch. You better after making them wait so long!! Â Staff is great and friendly although super busy..remember the place is packed.
So if you are in Lincoln, NH give it a try. Â I busy place usually means a good place. Â Once you get by the wait, you will be happy you did. Â Oh and I would suggest the pancakes....remember the name??
Wish Flapjacks was here in my home town. What a great place! Light fluffy pancakes with pure Maple syrup right on the table. Eggs perfectly cooked. Coffee is good. The decor is fun with an old time Lionel train set up which makes its way around the rafters, whistles and all. Â But the owners are the best, attentive and sassy. We loved it here, can't wait to go back. Â When it comes to a nice hearty breakfast, you won't find a better place in Lincoln, NH.
Review Source:I've eaten a LOT of pancakes in my time, and I will tell you this with authority: Flapjack's are literally the best. For 14 some-odd years I've been to Lincoln at Thanksgiving, and ever since Flapjack's (or as I affectionately refer to them: Bear Pancakes) opened it has been a yearly mecca. Their plain recipe is so amazing, then when they add crazy flavors like peanut butter, fluff, chocolate, and other magical combinations...it's trouble. Let's just say I order more than one plate.
For those considering less than 5 stars based on the "crowd" or the "food options" may I kindly point out that the crowd is due to the incredible deliciousness of the pancakes (and is relegated to the front, where they do not bother those eating) and the menu options are right here on the internet for you to analyze before you get there.
The second-best part is the ambiance. The decor is adorable...a cabin-like design with a fresh and modern color palette, and a super fun bear theme. No seriously, bears run this place, and they have family bear portraits, vintage bear paraphernalia, lots of clever bear puns and of course everyone's favorite-- the train running along the ceiling. It is honestly too adorable for words. Plus the owners and staff are incredibly nice.
Oh, how I love Flapjack's Pancakes.
L: Do you have fruit?
W: No.
L: Do you have oatmeal or cereal?
W: No.
L: Eggwhites?
W: No.
L: So it's literally JUST the flapjacks then?
W: No. We have french toast, bagels and meats.
L: I see.
::Long pause while LK looks around the restaurant::
L: Where are all your regular cust... oh... I see.
Flapjack's House of Heart Attacks is open for business, if you dare. The interior is charming -- complete with a ceiling-high model train set running around the sizable restaurant and featuring storefronts from Main St, Woodstock. However, the menu is severely limited in terms of healthy options for those of us breaching our vaca cholesterol quota. I appreciate that this is a small town family-owned business -- so I concede on the fresh fruit; but, no cereal or oatmeal?? Thas crazy.
Three stars because, afterall, the place IS named Flapjack's House of Pancakes. Silly tourists.
Stopped here during a winter weekend
First off, great atmosphere. I especially thought the model train overhead was a nice touch. I recommend parking across the street in the public lot, we parked on the street and missed the tiny sign on door directing us across street.
On to the food. Menu was easy to understand with a wide variety of innovative pancake choices, including peanut butter cup pancakes!
I opted for a western omelette. The food was excellent. We did have a waiter who liked to chat it up a bit too much and we waited throughout the meal for coffee refills and he took 20 minutes to give us our bill and process. Oh well, I would still go back for the food and atmosphere.
The stand in line situation is ridiculous. Â One can not even get to any hostess to state that one has a party of 6......there are too many human bodies in the way. Â Ummm....Cocanut Grove anyone ? Â What happens in a fire when people panic ?
There is an OVERPOWERING STENCH in the waiting line, I mean seriously gag. Is it the FlapJack dumpster, the sushi joint next door, I don't know. It smelled vaguely like human feces, not fish or toast. It was not at all subtle. One could smell it ACROSS THE STREET in the town Hall parking lot.
I went to Flapjack's for breakfast yesterday. Â Mmm. Â Pancakes. Â Their special pancakes of the day featured strawberries and raspberries, so I decided to get those. Â I totally should have gone for the short stack though, as those are some huge pancakes! Â They were like 8 inches across and thiiiick. Â The order came with three, and I barely got through half. Â They were super delicious though. Â Homefries were also good. Â The service, while friendly, was quite slow. Â I don't know if that's because it's New Hampshire and I'm not used to their relaxed way of life, or if it's because the waiter ignored my credit card on the table for more than 20 minutes, at which point, a different server finally took it after realizing my growing frustration. Â But really, I couldn't be too mad because those pancakes were pretty damn fantastic.
Review Source:Upon reading an article from http://boston.com, I've decided to trek out to NH to see if Flapjack's Pancake House was as good as it was written. Flapjack's did not disappoint!
Arriving at 10:30 am on a Sunday morning after a few days of living away from civilization via camping, I found a loooong line that spewed out of the FPH waiting area onto the streets. Approaching the locals, they confirmed that it's the usual scene every weekend. But since Boston is over 2 hours away, I doggedly decided that I just HAD to have the pancakes or hang my head in shame when I got back.
And I was well rewarded by it. The line moves pretty speedily, it's not that FPH does not have enough space but its that tables are constantly turned and servers are running about to get everything ready again. While waiting you can amuse yourself reading the wall of self-proclaimed awards.
Service was super speedy and congenial. I had my heart set on the "Hungry as a Bear" breakfast combo, which my companion ordered, while I got a bacon pesto omelet. Everything was delicious! I believe that flapjacks are meant to be enjoyed without the frou frou accompaniments to enjoy the softness of the dough and the sweetness of the real maple syrup. So I snagged the bottom flapjack that was not smeared with a mixture of mushed strawberries and raspberries (which were delicious too) BUT when you enjoy the pancake in its full glory, the simple play of egg, flour, buttermilk, and rich maple syrup explode into a warm comforting frenzy. I couldn't stop eating!
The bacon pesto omelet was nice but the pesto was oozing out oil and was a bit too heavy for me. The portions are huge.
In the end, go for the plain pancakes and douse them delicately with pure maple syrup, that is the best. But for you non-purist there are fruits and chocolate accompaniment galore too.
