Came here to stay a few days with kids in tow. Not the most kid friendly place nonetheless I had a connect for the Dockmaster so figured give it a shot.

So went to sit down for dinner an while walking in almost got knocked over by a bunch of drunk girls but kind of expected.

Ordered a few kids meals - can't really screw that up. Lobster bisque was completely gross. They should be ashamed to serve it, I wouldn't give it to a homeless person. And when I sent it back and told them it was awful they did not take it off the check. I didn't really care much - but I happen to own a restaurant and if a complaint came back along with a full bowl of soup I would have certainly taken it off the bill.

I then had a wedge salad. It was just as promised. Couldn't really screw that up unless the product was bad. Truthfully it was fresh, crisp, and delicious. I devoured it.

Overall it could have been worse. Lets see what tomorrow brings!

    Hi,

So this was my third time at Flynn's.  The first two times I went there i was a happy camper, enjoyed the music and had a grand old time.

This last time I would say I was happy with the entertainment, music was very good and I enjoyed the crowd.  My complaint lies solely on the staff. I attended Flynn's between 4-8 pm on Saturday August 17th.

    1. The MC announced a drink special.  $5 dollar Malibu drinks.  Ofcourse when i went to the bartenders, none of them had even heard about it.  A random stranger standing next to me heard the special as well.  a male bartender in the outside bar was very nasty to me saying that he had no idea what i was talking about and quickly walked away from me with a nasty look on his face.  Really?? I then went inside and asked a female bartender, she also had no idea but was a little nicer, but still was no help.  Finally i went back outside to ask another male bartender (with glasses on) who did not know, but was willing to go and ask his boss even offered the other specials he knew of.  He came back telling me that there was no such deal.  I did not understand how an MC could announce a drink special that nobody on staff knew about.

    2. Because i was the designated driver from the ferry i switched to water early on.  I asked for this water at the inside bar and a female bartender hands me a cup that had been sitting out for a while because it felt like it was at room temperature with no ice.  I know water is free and all, but common, i used to work at a restaurant. you dont serve water like that. You especially dont let a customer see you pick up a cup thats been sitting out.  I assure you, it wasnt because she was busy. The inside bar was manageable.

    3. While waiting on the bathroom line I felt my body being shoved by someone.  Sure enough it turned out to be the same female bartender that tried to serve me the shitty water. "I say, excuse me no need to push" and her response was "I WORK HERE".  Oh really? so being a bartender excuses you from common courtesy? UM, i dont think so. Keep in mind i was sober when this happened.

I also would like to point out that i came with a crew of six people who spent a lot of money at your bar. Next time well be going elsewhere.

To sum this up, i truly believe that the staff automatically thought i was drunk and that they could treat their customers like crap.  That's not something I stand for as I worked in a restaurant for three years of my life.  Needless to say, i will not be going to Flynn's again and will be telling all of my friends about this experience.

    Thanks

Went to Flynn's for their all you can eat Seafood Buffet..We took the Ferry from the Captree Boat Basin.  Even though they said they board at 6:30pm don't believe it.  We were there with other diners on time and had to wait in the rain because the crew didn't have a cash box to take our money..Off to a wet start..Once at Flynn's we were ushered to our table..Our waitress grabbed 2 plates of salad that were sitting on a tray stand and put them on our table.  Would have been nice to be able to go up to the buffet and get some cold salad..The salads were obviously made way in advance of our arrival and left in the dining room since the salad was warm. The actual buffet was located as far away from the dining room as possible..My guess is this is to deter or slow down the number of visits one makes...So if you have any mobility issues this is of concern...All the food appears to have been made prior to our boat arrival....Everything was luke warm..The baked clams (in my opinion) were WAY to over seasoned with thyme and oregano..I asked the cook if he had tasted them he said no...My suggestion was he should try one... All the food is rationed out by the cooks..You are only allowed 1/2 of a 1lb lobster at a time, the lobsters appeared to have been sitting a while. The picture in the ad shows whole lobsters, it should show half lobsters.  The imitation butter was congealed in plastic cups since the were not under the heat lamp,,1/2 of a 1lb lobster is not much. The long walk from the distant buffet is not worth the 2 min to eat that overcooked half a lobster and then walk back and repeat over and over...When asked why you can't have another half of lobster I was told the have to make sure every on gets some....WHAT ?  Its an all you can eat buffet..Surely they must expect people to eat at least 1 or 2  one pound lobsters..The prime rib was a bit fatty and luke warm..It was also rationed by the cooks...No more than 2 pieces god forbid..The peel and eat shrimp was good along with the corn..But didn't spend 28 dollars and a 2 hour boat ride for corn and peel and eat shrimp..There were mussels in some kind of dressing...I didn't try them based on info from someone on line in front of me...Dessert was..well disappointing.a slice of. Ice cream roll with syrup and some cookies..If you really want to try this here is my suggestion.....1) Go there and when you get there go out of your way a truly inspect the buffet CLOSELY and ask questions on portions...If you don't want the buffet there is a regular menu available.. They don't tell you this ..I found out later..Had i known this i would have gone for the dinner menu.. Bon Appetite

This review is for lunch only. I have yet to go to Flynn's on a holiday weekend/ weekend night with a cover, never had a cocktail here.

Atmosphere is very laid back (do not be afraid to just walk in to the establishment - no one will be greeting you at the door) with beautiful views of the bay and dock. There are both indoor and outdoor seating areas - I would obviously recommend eating outside if you go here on a warm summer day and want to sit on white chairs/tables - very nautical theme. I even saw some wildlife - crabs swimming around and fish (...and seagulls) in the bay when I was waiting for my Island Salad. The inside of the restaurant has a fairly large dance floor and bar with additional (overflow) seating.

Even though the Island Salad is pretty pricey - it is HUGE and extremely filling for a beach day - it's a take on the Cobb Salad but has more fresh vegetables and extra cheese (see photo). The burger is typical bar-fare but the food does have a problem coming out cold...can't imagine why when expediting should have been fast seeing as we were one of only three tables there.

Customer service is ehhhh - the tables were not wiped down (i.e. dirrrrty, messy, food on top of tables that were left over from the night before) which is completely unacceptable and a total turnoff when you are trying to enjoy your meal.

But - you get what you get on Fire Island with limited dining options - this place is definitely not the worse.

Came here tonight because my brother in law rave about this place. I was totally disappointed with the quality of the food and service. There was not much of a selection on the buffet. They had a big platter of cheeses, pasta and mussel salad. Corn on the cob, rice, chicken, BBQ ribs, tilapia, shrimp cocktail, prime rib and streamed lobster. They only give you half a lobster and then they ran out because they were not expecting the crowd they got. It took forever to get a beverage and bread to the table. I would never come here again. The only nice thing was the ferry ride over.

This place is not worth your time or money.

Cover was 10$ for girls and 20$ for guys. The place was dirty. Very very long lines to the bathroom(they only have 3 stalls!) drinks were watery and the crowd.....i don't even know where to begin. If i had to make a list of the 'trashiest' places I ever been to.....This would be in top 3!

This place is better suited for partying than a relaxing dining experience.

We were seated and served a generous portion of bread but it was partly stale. My steamed mussels in garlic sauce wasn't worth the price. They came out luke warm and rubbery.  I was told the mussels would be served with toasted garlic bread but instead I received the same partially stale bread. At that point I was too wiped out from the LIRR ride, ferry ride and afternoon on the beach to complain. There was a large bar across from the seating area but the music was so blaringly loud that we could barely hear each other talk. The only redeeming factor was that the waitress was very nice and our table overlooked the water.

What more could you want? $15 drinks, a crowd of steroid filled, Jersey shore alcoholics and poor management! Let me tell you, it doesn't get much better than this.

Recently they held the annual "Miss Flynns" contest and they actually HIRED two of the winning contestants to compete in the first place. Talk about deceiving your customers.

The managers here have no respect for their patrons or for their employees as is evident by their rude, loud remarks and terrible conflict resolution.

If you would like to have a nice, relaxing time on Fire Island - avoid Flynns at all costs.

The food at Flynn's literally put me in the hospital. It was the WORST dining experience I'd ever had, next to Felix's in Manhattan. But although Felix's was bad and inedible, and we got just as gypped there, at least I didn't end up with horrific food poisoning and an ER bill.

First off, we went there for my birthday last year, since their promotion for boat parking seemed like a great deal (<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.flynnsfireislandny.com%2Fflynns_marina.html&s=016b87270459488e391bc537ffee28a1773ecb61314428d5dfe4cef09439772a" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.flynnsfireisl…</a>). Check out the site -- you'll see that it has a parking price and a notation saying "plus $50 dinner credit."

Sounds like a bargain right? It's like parking for only $20-50 or so! Great!

    NOT!

What they ACTUALLY mean is you pay the parking and you pay another $50 for the food voucher. Which makes it the opposite of a credit. It makes it the biggest scam and rip-off out there, and it's a good thing we had the cash on us to pay it. It's totally false advertising, and lack of clear communication, since a "credit" always implies that you receive something as a bonus; never in my life have I paid for a credit before. In fact, the guys that docked the boat and collected the payment even said that this was a common complaint, but there was nothing they could do about it since it was the manager's rule.

A little annoyed, we politely asked to speak to said manager. We were directed to the owner's son, an arrogant young man who had his nose in the air the whole time. He said no one had ever complained about this policy before, and that we were holding food vouchers, so obviously, we were given a credit. We protested that we had paid for them, and he said it was part of the stay and dine package, and even if we chose to eat elsewhere, we were still responsible for paying for the voucher. In other words, you HAVE to eat there, or throw out $50. When we said that this wasn't really fair, his exact words were, "If you're not happy with our package, you can feel free to leave and I'll refund you."

Determined to make it a nice night (since it was my birthday and he'd planned this mini getaway specially), we went for a nice walk around town and returned for dinner. We ordered, and the food was ... okay. Not good, not bad, but mostly edible.

Except for my steak. I'd ordered it medium rare-plus and it came out rare. I asked for it to be cooked for a bit longer. They obliged, but my seared steak came out crusted black.

Now, I love a good char, and I even remarked to my husband, "Hey! They put a char on it! Nice!" ... but it was not a char. It was something else entirely. And whatever that crusted layer was of, there was definitely bacteria in there because I got severe, literally bloody food poisoning six hours later as it worked its way into my intestines. It tasted weird at first--kind of sour--but I didn't want to send it back again because my husband was already disappointed that he thought he'd let me down, and because I didn't really trust the kitchen anymore and the server was also kind of a dick. So I choked most of it down because I was STARVING. But yeah, when my gastro doc told me I'd definitely had bacterial food poisoning and if I'd eaten anything that tasted weird in the 12 hours before, that tough, manky steak stuck out like a sore thumb.

I wrote a sad letter to the owner about the whole situation and food poisoning (which cost me $200 in ER fees and $45 in gastro-doc copays and lab fees), who politely told me that he doubted it was his kitchen's food, but kindly reimbursed me for the ER copay), so that was good. But I'll never go here again.

If you want to piss away money, throw it away in the wind and save yourself the poor treatment by his douchey son and the time and agony of food poisoning. I'd give this NO stars if I could. This place is the absolute WORST.

Good times. Too crowded on a holiday weekend. But tell me what place isn't! Bouncers try to keep the crowds in order at the line but there is always a clown or two or three... Should have more bar tenders.  Bring cash, no credit cards accepted. Rocket fuel is the drink everyone talks about. Some sort of Pina colada and rum I'm guessing.  But way too much sugar for me. I went with a long island ice tea. One thing if your going to drink be ready for the long long long bathroom line. Good music. Fun for a group of friends to have a night out!

Girls wear sandals/flip flops. You want to show off your legs sure...but at the end of the day have fun in comfort!

After getting lost in fire island, walking fives miles and found this place, I just wanted to bow down and praise God. The food was surprisingly very good and the view was good. The service was attentive, the facility was clean, and the price was right so I'm a satisfied customer. I am familiar with having restaurants in a tourist area overcharging me for everything but the price was definitely reasonable here. Try the calamari and portobello mushroom sandwich.

It was a beautiful sunset, the setting is hard to beat. The venue is impressive, big garage doors make inside outside in fine weather. Outside there were flies so we went inside where our drunk fellow diner wanted to tell us how much she hates Obama and loves the Pope - apparently these things are proportional. But insects and drunks are all part of the charm of Fire Island. What let's Flynn's down is the food. Boring, bland, over priced. Good place to get drinks/get drunks. Another FI rip off on the food front.

    I LOVE THIS PLACE!

I went here this past weekend and just adore everything about the place and area. I will definitely go again! It's a laid back fun environment. Mixed crowd of all ages. Drinks are fairly priced and music keeps you dancing.

Took the ferry from Bayshore and started off at Ocean Beach, which has tons of fun bars. Walked from there to Flynns (approx. 25-30 min). It's not a very well lit walk. You may encounter deer. Make sure u have a walking buddy. Overall, a very safe and police patrolled area. Everyone there knows where Flynn is, so if your not sure your walking the right way - just ask :)

Afterwards, you don't have to walk all the way back to Ocean Beach to take your ferry back. There is a ferry a few min away - Ocean Bay. You will pass this before you reach Flynn, so keep that in mind.

Flynn's is spacious and open, with garage doors that pull up to create an open-air bayside environment in the indoor dining area. Designed to accommodate both diners and revelers, Flynn's features outside dining next to their private dock; an indoor bar and seating; and an outdoor tiki bar. Overall, Flynn's usage of space creates the illusion that it is bigger on the inside than it appears on the outside - with ample space between tables, the feng shui of the place feels relaxed and soothing

Right off the bat, I ordered a Pilsner Urqueli on tap, which arrived with a basket full of flat breads, honey wheat crackers, pumpernickel and plain rolls, along with sweet cream butter and plain salted butter. Noshing on the bread basket and sipping at my beer, I admired my surroundings. Though it was overcast and gloomy, Flynn's raised garage doors still offered a spectacular view of the Bay, looking out, over and pastthe pleasure vessels that filled the private dock. The interior dining area was a study in white: white chairs, white tablecloths white painted floor, white lantern-shaped lamps hanging from the ceiling. A pleasing aesthetic. A salad arrived, dotted with craisins.. --not bad at all..

Started out here on the last night of a bachelorette party on Fire Island (Ocean Bay Park).  Wish we had come in for their happy hour specials that run from 5pm-7pm.  They pretty much have specials running every day of the week.  I loved that they had a bar out on the deck!  I did not love that they only took cash.  Went on a Sunday night for reggae and we could NOT stop dancing!  This place closed down way to early though...11pm!
