best place we ate near Fripp! The crab claws and mussels were two of the best things on the menu! The outside looks like an typical beach-shack-type bar but the food is exceptional! Service was also good considering we had a party of 10- they were very accommodating.
If you have ever been to Fripp you know there are just not very many good places to eat so this was a godsend!
The cracked okra (fried lengthwise strips) were awesome and the sauce was phenomenal!  I ended up eating it with the bread  and the grit cake that came with the Tabasco fried shrimp which I swear had a sriracha sauce not Tabasco (loved it!).  The shrimp and grits my husband had were great and so was the pasta dish I had ( not on the menu anymore).  All in all, great food experience!
Review Source:Yummy food! Service was great and the place was very nice with a wonderful outdoor eating area with a nice view. Had the island seafood supreme soup and it was delicious! fried pickles, Shrimp Saga Blu pasta, and the NY strip completed the meal for us! Will have to drop back in when we are in town again!
Review Source:The deep fried pickles were the best thing we ate. Â My husband adored the giant fried fish, shrimp and scallop platter... not really giant, but tasty. Â I love grits but I didn't care for the grit cakes. The side of rice tasted like Rice a Roni Spanish rice.
Prices were hefty, also...
Great food and desserts. Â Small portions. Â
Our shrimp cocktail was lackluster. Â Six small shrimp for $9. Â Hrm. Â
However, our entree and desserts redeemed the meal. Â We got the wreckfish special and it was wonderful. Â I hated the entree split-fee of $3.50. Â When I'm already paying $25 for some fish and veggies, I hate the extra fees.
The chocolate mousse and peanut butter pie were both delightful.
Great beer selection, though quite pricey (one bottle of Magic Hat #9 was $6). Â Go for drafts, it's the better deal (Fat Tire was $4.25/draft).
It sounds like I'm complaining, but I gave it four-stars because the service was spot-on (though we saw a cook in the kitchen eating french fries off a customer's plate before putting it out; that was funny), the atmosphere is lovely with comfy booths, and the food was really delicious, well-prepared, and presented nicely.
I visited the area last weekend for the first time to camp at Hunting Island State park with my boyfriend. One evening our ravenous natures got to us and we decided to try this restaurant on the fly.
And it did not disappoint! In fact, it far exceeded our expectations! The fried flounder and coconut shrimp were superb, as was the fried okra and fried grit cakes. (Yes, I was on a fried food role, but that's certainly not all they have to offer.)
I have been waiting for over 10 years for a place close to Fripp, Dataw, and Harbour Islands that has great food. As far as appetizers go the fried pickles, crab cake, gumbo, and crab stuffed mushrooms are awesome! Fried oysters and shrimp are great entrees. Frogmore stew is a must for a first timer! Fried Grit cakes are unbelievable and too top it off Peanut Butter Pie is decadent. Nice menu for the kids as well as a great wine selection. I have been vacationing in this area for over 10 years and this is the best so far by far!
Review Source:Tried the Foolish Frog for the first time last week and we were really pleased. Â
We arrived late, maybe 8:30 or 9 and the restaurant was still pretty busy. Â Good crowd at the bar, etc. Â Greeted promptly and politely. Â The restaurant is really nice inside, not over-decorated, but certainly recently updated.
We tried the calamari app, which featured a slightly sweet breading. Â Overall, really good, but I thought it was a little under-seasoned. Â This is a bit surprising because I'm really sensitive to salt. Â Very generous portion for an app.
My wife ordered a clam pasta dish in a red sauce, with capers and olives. Â Really really impressed. Â Might be a bit salty for some, but the flavors were really fresh and the dish was well executed.
I ordered a simple broiled seafood entree with a side of ratatouille and fried grits. Â The grits weren't amazing, but the ratatouille was incredible. Â The broiled seafood was a generous portion, but not too much, and was cooked perfectly. Â I appreciated that the seafood wasn't covered in butter as it is in too many restaurants. Â I ordered the broiled seafood to be slightly healthier and too often the butter destroys the health benefits. Â This entree was excellent and very healthy, especially if I'd have left off the fried grits.
Overall we were really impressed. Â Since they're a pretty new restaurant, I'll give them a break for the under-seasoned calamari, mainly because the breading was excellent and it wasn't that hard to add a bit of salt. Â
We'll definitely be back.
Just had a fantastic dinner at Foolish Frog! Â It was the best Tuna I've ever had and it was 1 of 2 specials for the evening. The other special was Mahi Mahi and was ordered by my FIL and he said it was very good.
I ate one of BBQ shrimp( appetizers) and I think I will order it next time I go there. Â I had 3 pints of the Fat Tire draft which explains how I teleported home and I am now typing a review on Yelp!
I also ordered the peanut butter pie which was very good.  Not too heavy  and very smooth.
I like the portions here. Â Not too big and I was able to finish my meal--some dishes aren't good to take home and reheat. Â
Hopefully, I'll be able to add some pics to this review. Â I think this place will be great for outside dining during the spring/fall...or summer if you enjoy the heat (no thank you)!
Eat here. Â You won't be sorry.
