My fiancé stopped here for lunch yesterday for a hamburger, he just wanted a burger and beer.
Okay, when was the last time you were NOT able to order a burger med rare to rare in a resturant?

Here's the deal, the owner will not allow any meat cooked med rare to rare.

My question would be, if your meat is not good enough to be served rare should you be serving it at all?

Than I start to think of someone dictating to me how I can have my food prepared and thought, ' no way would  I go to this place' !

Than Tony told me they had Death& Taxes on tap...okay I am now saying to myself...D & T own tap...must be doing something right.

Wednesday is also 50€ wing day, that had me going.

We had to at least check this out.

What would you expect happened....after we ordered the beer, we were told they just ran out of wings!

I immediately pointed out, the sign outside still has it mentioned, the waitress said she was just going to change the sign.

We drank our beer, left 30 minutes later, still no sign changed.

Did I mention Death & Taxes on tap? That got two stars, enough said.

Bar tenders get upset when you ask for anything out of the ordinary, and there is only 1 restroom in total for the entire bar for each sex. I swear i noticed some ssu kids playing dungeons and dragons over a pabst blue ribbon there last Saturday night.

I moved further south a few years ago and I so miss this place!!!  Whenever I'm in the area, there is always a place to park and a smile behind the bar!  One of my favorites.  Just a good hometown place to stop in for a chance to relax!!  Awesome hot wings!!!

The reviews are pretty much spot-on. It's a total dive. What I've heard about people not often taking to the bars on Friday nights (but instead on Thursday and Saturday nights) was absolutely true. The place didn't even resemble busy until about 10PM. It got a little too loud for me after a while so I left. The garlic fries are very 'meh' but the beers are reasonably priced.

I will probably become more a regular once they start showing the Sharks games (manager said they would get the channel in February), however I do enjoy coming here for other reasons. They have an amazing staff, all very friendly, and accommodating. My favorite waitress is emily; she always greets me with a smile, and even remembers my order. All around its a great place, has a real 'family' feel to it. Thursday nights get pretty crazy from the crawl.

I've had most things on their menu; I'm a fan of the garlic fries, onion rings, chili, the blue cheese Burger is my favorite, and the Monterey chicken sandwich is delicious. Everything is fresh and never frozen.

Its my favorite place to hang out, watch some sports, and relax with some delicious food! I highly recommend this place!

    PROS
    - The most ghetto place in Cotati, which is a good thing if you're not a total country bumpkin
    - Nice selection of hip-hop/rap complete w/ throwbacks from jr. high!
    - The price is right: $2 shots for ladies (Fridays), $5 beers for all
    - Ladies restroom is one large room w/ 1 stall, mirror, etc. can bring all your friends
    - Can dance or just relax here
    - College-aged crowd

    CONS
    - Unpredictable showing, one Friday it was BUMPING, the next, DEAD
    -  The ladies restroom has an abnormally long line

Zydeco? White bean soup with ham hocks?  Beer?

    Yes.  Yes!  YES!

Came here during the 2012 Cotati Accordion Festival and had a blast.  The staff is friendly, prices are decent, and the wood floor is ready for dancing!

There is only one women's restroom inside but don't worry.  If you are a brave soul you can try the porto-potty on the back patio.

Speaking of patios...there is one in front and one in back.  Food and drink service is available in both locations.

    I'll be back in 2013!

I have to admit, this place has definitely grown on me!

It's become a real go to.

Usually, the fastest way to get service is to start at the bar. Then move to a table if you want to.

The corned beef is awe-some! But the fish and chips, are out of this world amazing! The fish coating is so crispy. Even if you have some leftover (they serve a hefty portion so two can often share) take it home and the next day you can pop it in the oven or the toaster oven at 400 degrees for about 5 minutes. It crisps up all over again, so do the thick cut fries! They use Corona in their beer batter and it works amazingly!

I do not agree with the garlic fries being the best in town though. They serve it with roasted garlic. I LOVE roasted garlic. We make it at home and put it on and in nearly everything. However, apparently I do not love roasted garlic on thick cut fries. The taste of the garlic gets drowned out by the fries themselves. I like vibrant fresh garlic for garlic fries. Don't know where to get really good garlic fries in Sonoma County. Last place I had good ones was at Monti's. Ah I digress.

The tacos come in two ways and I order it the way without cheese but with the bomb sauce. I'm not a huge fan of the sauce but it works with the crispy fish, lettuce, and pico de gallo. It's basically a hot sauce mixed into mayo.

You can order breakfast throughout the whole day. Just ask for the breakfast menu. Like the regular menu the breakfast menu is very straightforward with things like eggs, bacon, sausage (Jimmy Dean patty), and a biscuit. I've seen a lot of people order the biscuits and gravy but haven't tried it myself. They also have waffles, a breakfast burrito, and things like that.

I did get the side of corned beef hash. The corned beef is homemade and very good. The hash (potato) part is mixed in and last time it looked a little greyish (the may have grated ahead of time and not kept it in water) but it still tasted very good. It comes on a small plate and is only $2.99. So if you want to try their corned beef order the side dish, it's the cheaper option to try it if you're not up for a whole sandwich.

My most recent complaint? The Celtic Caesar Salad. This is NOT a Caesar salad. The dressing does not taste like Caesar. There are mushrooms and blue cheese in it. I mean, don't get me wrong ... it's not a bad salad. It's just decidedly NOT a Caesar. Who puts freakin' blue cheese in a Caesar?!

And yes, I spoke with the head chef about this. He took my complaint very sweetly while he smoked his cig outside and we even had a laugh before I returned inside. So it's noted. I also gave the owner a hug, she's a very sweet woman.

I like to hit up the free pool nights (always Saturday but forget the other nights). Keep in mind, there are only 3 tables, and it seems like the feast and famine situation with them. Sometimes people are on them forever and sometimes they are empty nearly all night. And if you do want to play on a not free night, it's only a dollar. Who can really beat that?

The other awesome thing! Football Sundays! I'm in there all the time for games now and I love how when there are nine games playing at the same time (like last weekend) they play them all at once! It was neat to see people collecting in different parts of the bar closest to the tv that was playing their team's game. At that time I noticed a lot of people ordering bloody mary's (it was brunch time after all). They serve that with a piece of celery and some large skewered olives. I had a sip once and thought it was good.

I also noted that while a man was outside smoking a cigarette when the waitress who brought out his food, moved him to another table nearby. When he came in he asked while his food was at another table. The girls were very apologetic but explained that a man who was in a wheel chair had called in a request for that table (it is the one I see most people in a wheelchair at). He was fine with that and thanked the girls.

I still do tend to leave when things are amping up and I do avoid the Cotati Crawl crowd, but there is plenty of down time in the afternoons and early evenings that can still be enjoyed at a chill pace here.

I've been a loyal patron of friars for three years . Recently I went and I was charged $48 for two red bull vodkas and a beer, they would not provide me with an itemized receipt.  They said I was drunk and that's why my bill was so high and then asked me to leave. Never going back.

20th anniversary celebration wasn't all it could have been. Although Tucker and the Twins rocked, employees were inattentive, and furniture was left in the middle of the dance floor. The house white wine was barely drinkable. Lights remained overly bright for an evening event, and the Giants game was on the big screen with the sound on. I won't be returning for the 25th!

I really like this place and used to come here for the corn beef sandwich.  We came here about a month ago and I ordered my fav.  When lady brought the corn been sandwich I had to ask her if it was corned beef.  It looked pretty dark I thought if was trip tip.  she said yes, and I took a bite.  It was corn beef just didn't look fresh.  Looked OLD.  The lady who I think is the owner was not very nice.  Not sure what happened to the waitresses there before.  They would always recognize us and were really nice.  Won't come back here for any food, probably just beers.

I just moved into the area and I was just exploring when I came across this place. I discovered the pool tables- which are not the annoying little tables- and the food was fantastic! Their corned beef is incredible, their garlic fries are delicious and the service is great. Our server was Cassidy; she was friendly, helpful and courteous. She answered all of our questions no problem and seemed to genuinely enjoy what she was doing. I will definitely be coming back. This may very well replace Antonio's Nut House back home for my local watering hole!

Many a great nights spent here. My friends and i are pretty regular goers. Friday nights can be really fun for dancing but the guy dj can be a jerk, saturday nights is a really fun karaoke scene! I go for lunch occationally cuz i love their boneless buffalo chicken salad, one of the only places in sonoma county that makes boneless buffalo chicken! Plus, i love that they have ace on tap :)

So many good times at Friar's. I appreciate their cheesy flair for St. Patty's Day. Lots of college students pretty much every night, but afternoons are quiet and good for a pre-dinner beer or two. Beer-pong tournaments are interesting to witness. Karaoke on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Also, really decent late-night fish tacos.

I really love Friar's going all the way back to the days when they were in the Olivers shopping center, friendly staff and good pub food! it does not matter if you know anyone or not people there make you feel welcome, the owner and some employees come into my place and eat and that is really cool! keep pouring the Guiness and Jameson and do not miss this place on St Patricks day!

I have to re-review this place with 5 stars because of their Sunday Football. Best gem in the area if you enjoy cheap drinks, breakfast buffet lines, each tv having a different football game, and a good crowd. This place is awesome for football fans on Sundays.

The staff here is great but the atmosphere and drink prices are pretty ridiculous. I went out here during my college days but I won't be returning. $9 drinks and dive bars don't mix. If there drinks were cheaper and there were more than 1 bathroom and a Porto potty I'm the back... This place might get 4 stars. For now, just 2.5.

This used to be one of our college hangouts so on a trip to northern CA, we decided to stop at their new location in Cotati. The bartender was so rude that she was a buzz kill! We tried making light conversation and she made sure to make us feel as unwelcome as possible. So we finished our drinks and left.

yeah. this place is just so Cotati. Pretty dive barish. I mean the food is like Costco out of the freezer or a bag of pre-washed lettuce. I could make something better from home at 1 AM with little to no food in the house. I mean 10 dollars for Costco food does not cut it. I'll go to Taco Bell for better.

The drinks are ok I guess. Went to a few college parties here and all and all it was not my style.

The atmosphere is bad, the wait for the one stall bathroom worse.

Food is standard pub fare -- apps, salads, burgers, with a few Brit/Irish selections thrown in. Not terribly exciting, but usually tasty -- the garlic fries are awesome, and I like the Braveheart buffalo chicken salad. Drinks can be a little pricey, but the service is always good.

Have been coming here regularly for Tuesday pub quiz ever since Black Rose in Santa Rosa shut down. The quiz is great - not the pre-packaged kind, but challenging questions carefully crafted by affable hosts. Have been here for karaoke a couple of times, too - just meh.

This place is bad.  I walked in there and it immediately jumped out as a college bar.  I guess this is where the SSU kids go?  Maybe the ones that play Dungeons and Dragons.  It's hard to describe this place in words.  The one word I can think of is tacky.

This place would still be bad even if the drinks were free.  It's rare to have so many senses violated at once.  This being a medieval themed bar, the walls were lined with cheap mugs with coats of arms on them and prop swords.  It's the kind of stuff you would find in a dumpster.  The whole place should be thrown in a dumpster.

DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU ARE A FOREIGN VISITOR OR A NON-CALIFORNIA RESIDENT.

    Well, actually...DON'T COME HERE. PERIOD.

Three words: RUDE. RUDE. RUDE. Completely disrespectful.

There was a time in my 20s when Friar Tucks was in it's old location, and I did have good times during karaoke night. Now, it has taken over the Inn at the Beginning.

My friends and I walk in, taking in all the changes made to the bar because we were so accustomed to the Inn at the Beginning, and we are rudely asked several times to take a seat, despite being the only patrons of the bar at 7pm on a Saturday night. We choose our seats and since it's our friend's 30th birthday (and we are all in our 30's), we ask for 5 patron silver shots. We give them our IDs - 3 CA IDs, the bday girls' boyfriend's Spain ID, and my husband's AZ ID. The manager comes back with the Spain ID and AZ ID and tell us they are "UNACCEPTABLE" (and I place that in quotes and capital letters because that's how it was rudely YELLED at us). We are told the Spanish ID is "UNACCEPTABLE"  for the simple fact that it's a foreign ID. The AZ ID comes back halfway ripped off and we're told it's "UNACCEPTABLE" because it was falling apart and that's illegal.  First of all, it was NOT falling apart when you took it away.  It may have been frayed at the side because once issued, AZ ID's do not have to be renewed until the age of 65, so many of them tend to look worn and torn. But now my husband is given back a completely ruined driver's license and they blatantly lie to our faces that they didn't peel the ID, that's how it was given to them.  Excuse me?! We ALL looked at that ID prior to handing it over to the manager, and it was not ripped off like that. Even the man at airport security saw it yesterday and it did not look that way.

Maybe they should get off their high horse and think about what they're doing because there may be someone who really needs to get on a plane tomorrow to fly home for work and may not make it back because the ridiculous, unintelligent people at Friar Tuck's decided to ruin his ID!

Needless to say, we left and will never return.

Bring back the Inn at the Beginning.

For decades this was a hot spot for music. Now it's a shitty pub. This place was a magnet for great talent for decades; how could the current owners let that slide? For shame.

OK, So I'm here a few time  a week if i like or it or not. might be an alcoholic but that's besides the point. On a good night, this place is a blast.. lots of fun people and always fun to hop on the blackout train. On the other hand, the bar tenders are straight up RUDE to you... what ever happened to some friendly customer satisfaction? Even when you tip them nicely the bar tenders (the girls behind the bar especially) are just plain rude, disrespectful and could care less if you were there or not.  Go to spankys or  tradewinds and support their bar.. go to friars to party.

That being said, the bouncers are pretty chill at Friars... the Cotati popo that are trying to arrest people because they have nothing else to do aren't so much fun. Let the bouncers do their jobs!!

What's not to like? The place is big, it has an outdoor patio (over run with smokers though), pool tables, and karaoke. The crowd is mixed, sometimes it's the Sonoma State crowd, sometimes it is only 30+. The service is always friendly. Go, keep an open mind (because if you expect too much out of any bar you will be disappointed) and have fun.

For a place that I go to at least once a week. I am surprised I have not written a review yet! Friar's is a place that really grows on you from the staff to the regulars to the college crowd. Sometimes this place is hopping and other times its just you watching the game. Every night is something like karaoke, college night with beer pong, trivia night, or pool. Lots of pool tables and darts, never really a wait. Great turnouts for Football Sundays and alright Bloody Marys.

Good choices on tap. From my memory: Racer 5, Lagunitas, Boonville Ale, Guinness, Great White, Bud, Pabst, Stella, Widmer, Coors, etc. From locals to conglomerates. Bartenders are nice for the most part. Sarah is my favorite server. Shes wonderful and will remember you!

For food its really basic bar stuff. Good fish tacos though! They serve corn beef as well. There is a local Irish flare, but its not over the top like some places. Lots of memorabilia and a very open space.

Oh Friars.  How I love you/frequent your bar so often.  Such a dive, but I love it, especially the karaoke nights.  No matter how crowded this place is, my friends and I always have a great time.  I also love the location, and am a fan of the Cotati Crawl.

Not for the real Karaoke afficionado.

I'm a 'Karaoke Junkie' that happened to be in the area for a band that was playing next door and thought I'd check out Friar Tuck's Karaoke during a break.

Compared to what I'm used to the sound was really bad. Muddy tones...and what made that so much more disappointing is that there were actually some really good singers that you just couldn't hear. When I had a chance to sing my song, the music was a whole measure off from the lyrics. The KJ was pleasant enough, but I don't think he knows enough about his system to correct a problem like this.

But... if you happen to be a college student out to have a good time it doesn't matter. It's all about having fun! Just don't expect anyone to appteciate your talent.

Friar Tuck's just got a little bit cooler in my book, thanks in large part to Wednesday night karaoke. SO. MUCH. FUN. In fact, it elevates this review to 3.5 star status.

Granted, the college crowd there is hit and miss, but there's a nice variety of people performing... yet not too many where you're waiting for hours for your song to come up.

Finally played pool for the first time and with three tables, there is no need to wait around for one to open up. Plenty of seating if you show up earlier and there's a bar outside so you can order drinks with more ease.

While I'm not all that impressed with how uninvested bartenders here seem to be in gaining/keeping my business, I'll still keep coming.

Going to Friar Tucks is a lot like rolling dice - You never know what you'll get here! Sometimes its dead, other times its a hopping pub!!  Especially Thursday nights when SSU students hit up the "Cotati Crawl"...

This place is a great place to begin the night with some friends...Check out some of the other bars in the neighborhood if Friars is too slow for ya!

Also - There always seems to be random events going on here...Night and day.
