Note: I only came here for a drink, didn't eat food.
Note: I would never come back.
My mom and I visited PIB for the wine fesival last weekend and decided to have a drink before we took the ferry back to the "Main land". Â We sat a table waiting for a waitress and we waited and we waited and we waited. Â No waitress. Â So, I went to the bar to get a couple of beers. Â There was literally a bartender standing across the bar from me, but he was completely obvlious to the fact I wanted a drink. Â After I raised my arrms a few time and asked for help, he was willing to oblige. Â
I asked what beers were from Ohio and he gave me a bottle of Mt. Carmel (excellent, by the way). I asked for two of the same, but they didn't have two of the same, so I got one IPA and one amber beer. Â I asked for two glasses, which seemed to bother the bartender. Â I will say, I'm glad I did, they were nice and ice cold! Â I then noticed the caps on the bottles were not screw tops and were not opened. Â I then had to flag down another bartender to get them to open them. Â
The place is a dive, but I'm sure on weekends when it's full of drunks listening to music and dancing. Â If I were 10 years younger, I would be doing that....
There are plenty of places to eat and drink on PIB and I would not come back to Frosty's.
Having lived in both NYC and Chicago, we know a thing or two about the spectrum of highly regarded pizza and Frosty is up there in the pantheon. Â Their pizza is certainly unique in that you'll not find something similar at a chain like Papa John's, Pizza Hut, Â or Domino's -- more cheese, to be sure, with a thin but not wafer-like crust. Â The quality is first-rate with standards like pepperoni (well, triple) as well as originals like the Chicken Enchilada pizza and Buffalo Chicken Ranch pizza. Â There's something for everyone that's sure to please depending on the mood of your group.
Frosty is not all about pizza (and cold beer!): Â No trip to the island is complete without their breakfast that includes great handcrafted originals like the Country Benedict (biscuits topped with scrambled eggs and gravy) and Bacon Banana Bread Pancakes (name doesn't say it all as there are walnuts in the mix). Â The eye-opener cocktails are serviceable on a bad day and pleasant surprises when mixed just right. Â There are also several sandwiches for the lunch/dinner crowd when not up for pizza, and I've heard that Mexican food on the new back patio is one of the best additions to the island in many years although I haven't yet tried it for myself.
Frosty Bar -- there's good reason they've been going strong for over 60 years and should be around for at least 60 more!
