I agree that the food is not as good as it used to be. I hadn't been in for many years, and was Jonesing for fish & chips, so after reading reviews here & elsewhere, decided to give it a try. The service was good, the beer selection totally boring, and the portion of my 5-piece F&C excellent, BUT the fish & batter seemed like your basic "Frozen Beer-Battered Fish & Chips". The batter didn't taste fresh, nor did the fish, which had very little taste. I doubt if I'll be back.

Gentleman Gene's doesn't have bad food. Its just not as good as it once was. The place doesn't fill up as much to as it used to and the old timers are slowly dying off, but it still is a good place for a brew or mixed drink and the service is excellent.

This was also a better M.V. choice 10 years ago.  The place smells like musty old building and maybe something a little worse. (Gene? Invest some dough in fixing that moisture problem, eay?)  The Friday all you can eat fish and chips is perfect for large appetites, but if you are 30 something and female like me you are better off with the 2 or 3 piece and save the $2 or $3.  The chowder is okay.  The slaw is good.  Burgers are decent. Reuben well drained is good.  Play pool?  You can do that too for that real Pub lunch or dinner experience. Children welcom in dining area.
