    Membership Has Its Privileges.

Gayle and I have been Supporters of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival since 2006 and when you consider the associated perks that include discounted Ticket and Tudor Gild Gift Shop prices, Backstage Tours, the Green Show, and World Class Theater within a pretty and pleasant town, it's safe to say that the we're the ones being paid forward. There's also this Members' Lounge which Gayle and I have occasional wandered in before the show. It offers comfortable indoor and outdoor seating, reading material, snacks for sale, and restrooms. It's staffed by Volunteers and is a nice place to hang out, especially on the tree shaded deck with all the associated people watching opportunities. The only reasons that we don't go in more often is that it can feel a little crowded and we don't want to pass up a chance for a more extended walk through Lithia Park before the Show.

Another place I hadn't reviewed.  The Members' Lounge offers comfortable seating inside in chairs and on benches and outside on a lovely wooden deck under a wisteria-laden arbor.  The deck overlooks the stairs up to the theatre from Lithia Park and offers excellent people watching opportunities.  Inside are various Festival publications to peruse and sometimes even the occasional newspaper.  Beverages and snacks are on offer and just outside the lounge are restrooms.  Festival membership gives you access to the lounge.  Before this lounge was built the lounge was housed in the space that now holds the Festival Box Office.  It was smaller then and didn't have a deck.  It was nice, but this one is much nicer.  Both were staffed by volunteers, one of whom told Nina and me about the yearly closing ceremony for the outdoor theatre.  That was 20 or more years ago and we try not to miss it.

Apropos of the name, if you are a member of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival (this means that you pay a certain yearly fee, the range of which is pretty wide), or at least attending with someone who is, you are able to come in and hang out between shows in this cozy space. They have sofas, a wide selection of production material, reference books, and programs that you can peruse, as well as a concession counter with items similar, but not identical in all cases, to what's sold in the theaters. One odd example is that they still have Coke while for some reason the theaters have switched to Pepsi (boo). I should also mention that if you get high enough in membership level, drinks, including alcoholic ones (also served here, yes) are free. Of course, don't go up that high just for that reason, obviously!

Only downside of the place is that it is a bit small and often gets very crowded. I don't know if there's any chance that they can expand some day into a larger space, but it would be much welcomed if it were possible!
