Terrific Restaurant and bar. I loved the seared tuna. And the Godfather Burger was great. Everything in this place is homemade. They have Fat Tire Beer on tap too. I ride the Seagull Century Bicycle Ride every year in Salisbury, Maryland. The Globe is going to be my go to place before and after the ride from now on. Berlin, Maryland is a beautiful, picturesque town.
Review Source:The Globe, in Berlin, MD, is a very warm and cozy venue. Â The bar is dark and intriguing, oozing with history and class. Â They maintain local, popular brews on tap...and have a very short, tasty menu...featuring gourmet dishes.
The selling point of this bar is location. Â Sitting in downtown Berlin, the bar sits in the midst of a very historic and affluent village, littered with galleries, eateries, and beautiful tree lines. Â I suggest anyone visiting MD to research and visit this iconic location.
A solid 3.5 stars!
Found this great place on the way home to NJ. The eclectic menu was fantastic. The Delmarva surf and turf was excellent. Â Crab cake sandwich was all crab - best in Maryland. . We ate outside and enjoyed the beautiful town of Berlin. Definitely need to check the gourmet menu out - it rocks
Review Source:We came here and had about a ten minute wait, so we decided to hit up the bar. Â The bartenders were super nice (however I forgot my ID) and I had to not sit at the bar table and I didn't get alcohol (whoopsies) but they were super nice about it. Â
After we sat down, we ordered their soup of the day which was a red pepper soup with a cream sauce (to die for) which was served in their coffee mugs (COOL IDEA!). Â As for entree's, those, too were delicious! Â Lucky for us, there was a live acoustic guitar player there that just added awesome ambiance to the restaurant.
The only part that I really enjoyed was the ridiculously over-priced artwork that was being sold...the prices they put on those are NOT worth it lol
Met up with a group of co-workers for dinner here on a week night. Â They were hosting a speaker that evening but we were still able to have a nice dinner in a secluded area without much intrusion. Some of us arrived early and the bar atmosphere was nice and laid back. Â It was a cheap wine night and though I don't drink wine, olthers with the party thought it was decent. Â The scallops and butternut squash hors d'oeuvres were excellent and the Prime Rib was above average. Â The service was friendly and responsive and the price I felt was reasonable given the size of the party, the food and service. Â I definitely will be going again.
Review Source:I was living in Berlin for a five weeks this past September working on a show, and despite a nonexistent dining-out budget, I went to the Globe several times. I'm not the type of person to order the same thing again and again, but I still got the crab soup every single time. Even now, months later, I still salivate when I remember it. Their burger and home-style fries were also great, but the crab soup was something else. What was in it besides jumbo-lump crab? Buttermilk? Crack-cocaine? I don't know...I don't WANT to know...but one taste and I was hooked.
The servers were super personable and friendly. The owner was incredibly nice, and allowed us to hang posters for our show in the restaurant--a really kind gesture which we really appreciated. And the live music was the best--totally unexpected in such a small town.
The only warning I'll give is that their kitchen closes early, and their website makes no mention of it. So don't roll in half an hour before closing--as I did--expecting a quick crab soup fix.
Berlin was friendly to my dog. In this small town as we were walking the block, at the corner of Main St is the Globe Theatre. There were seating outside the sidewalks and we knew that we could eat here with my dog. We looked at the menu and found the food description interesting and so we sat and got greeted. One lady was fond of my dog and gave him a bowl of water but my dog is more interested in our food. I was interested in having risotto but because I also want to taste their local's favorite soup, cream of crab, I ordered a big bowl of strawberry spinach salad with strawberry vinaignette dressing. The soup disappointedly to me was a little too salty but was good. While my partner ordered a vegeterian burger with fresh hand cut fries. I suspected that the burger is the usual, untasteful, uninteresting breaded fried burger in a regular bun, but surprisingly, the veggie burger was made of black beans that came with spinach and avocado as toppings. Globe Theatre is not only for dining, but also have some entertainment events such as comedy show and showcasting of arts of participating local artists and painters. We wished to dine and see the film of that night, but we had our dog with us. My dog can affirmed, indeed that Berlin was not cruel to him as we can observed from his constant barks to passerbys. How are you Berlin? How did you get such a name?
Review Source:Its a'right,
Berlin, is limited to The Globe, The Hotel and a few greasy spoons.
So, if you want something that doest totally suck you go to the Globe or the Hotel. The food at the Globe is your standard, Seared Tuna Plate / Burger served with crispy stuff on top. The specials can be a treat, and they have bands play, which is the real reason to go. Mostly the food is cooked correct, the experienced diner will know what to stay away from... the rest of you need to get experienced!
Overall, if you like live music and can can afford an overpriced Burger;
dis be da' Joint.
The Globe used to be a great place with a very eclectic menu. Â Now the menu us very uninspired. Â Simple bar food now and not cheap. Â We recently ate there and a chicken dish that was marked on the menu for $18 only consisted of two pounded thin chicken cutlets with bbq sauce. Â The manager delivered our food and told us that they had made a mistake with the new menu and that chickend dish would only cost $11. Â Even that was a bit steep for what was delivered. Â The rest of the menu is pretty blah now. Â This summer will probably be the last time I make the trip out to Berlin to dine at the Globe.
Review Source:Their chef recently, within the past few months, I believe, moved on to work at The Shark on the Harbor of West Ocean City. Â Having visited since, the menu has become more traditional (for me, read "boring") and the food remains as expensive as before.
While The Globe retains the charm of its intimate stage and long (and well attended) copper-covered bar, the value proposition just isn't there any more. Â The food, now relatively uninspired, simply isn't worth the cost.
If you miss the Asian-inspired dishes of the former chef, try The Shark on the Harbor.
Casual Lunch - Dec 1, 2009
We looked up restaurants in the Ocean City area on Yelp and discovered this lovely little restaurant in Berlin, MD (famous for being the city where Julia Robert's movie: "Runaway Bride" was filmed). The service was charming and the food was great.
It wasn't a crowded time of day, but it was a steady Black Friday afternoon with shoppers from the local shops popping in and out.
We sat in the bar/vestibule area, not in the dining room, but I did get to see the black and white movie ("It's a Wonderful Life") playing on the big theater screen.
We had the happy hour shrimp special which was a 1/2 pound and the buffalo wings with #7 sauce. The #7 sauce was touted by one critic as the best ever. It was delicious, but not the best ever. The price for the shrimp was exceptional and they were served very hot which was wonderful!
The upstairs of The Globe has some local artisans work showcased on the walls and available for sale. Beautiful work and a great idea, too.
As a long time resident of Howard County, MD I'm in Ellicott City all the time and this visit to The Globe and Berlin, MD helped me to feel right at home.
Gluten free aware. Would appreciate the addition of GF beer like Red Bridge.
I am forever impressed by the Globe. Â I have absolutely loved everything I have ever eaten here -- even when all I had was a grilled ham and cheese sandwich! Â Their cream of crab soup is the best I've had anywhere; it's thick, rich, and has a terrific little zip! Â The "cup" of soup is actually a tall coffee mug, so it's more than worth it. Â The homemade tortilla chips they serve with most lunch items are scrumptious! Â The prices may seem a bit high, but you definitely get what you pay for here.
The wait staff is excellent. Â I love the decor and the art on the walls. Â
The layout of the place is unique. Â My only complaint is that if you're going there specifically to watch a band, it can be hard to see them, depending on where you're at. Â I always feel funny just hanging out to watch a band in the dining room -- like maybe I'm taking up a table for dinner-goers. Â The Globe staff has never seemed to mind this, however. Â If you're at the bar, you can't see the band, but you can definitely hear everything.
Service was a bit slow. Otherwise it would have been 5. I had 2 kids with me for the movie night which was nice, but it took 10 minutes to place drink order then the food was 20 minutes after to order. We were one of 2 tables in the area. The other people were obviously regulars who received quick service and talk from chef and host as we sat and waited.
The food was good so I plan on trying again with The Globe.
This restaurant/bar/entertainment venue is among the best I've been to anywhere worldwide. Â World-class food, great bands, attentive service, great atmosphere and local vibe. Â This IS my hometown, but when I came. In tonight for dinner, the bartender, whom I have never met, said "you look exactly like..."...it was my brother. Â I can't say enough about the menu, which is as food as it is both local and diverse...you just need to eat here if you visit the eastern shore of Maryland for any reason.
Review Source:We stopped in here very quickly to get a bite before going to a wedding reception. We were staying next door at the Atlantic hotel and decided to walk the "downtown" and look for a spot to grab something. Well there isn't much in Berlin but we noticed the Globe. We walked to the front and were looking at the menu when the hostess came out and greeted us. She was bubbly and happy to see us...I'm not sure if it was due to a lack of business or she was just happy. Either way we went in and to our surprise the place was quite big. Bigger then I ever thought it would be from looking at the outside. She sat us in front of a movie screen showing silent movies of Charlie Chaplin...thumbs up. We ordered the the spinach and artichoke dip with lump crab meat. Now that stuff rocked. Really great. There were enough toasted baguettes to kill a horse and I did my best to eat all of the horse killing baguettes. We both had cups of soup. My lady friend had the Sweet Onion and loved it...I had the chef's cauldron which is just the soup of the day...I believe it was a spicy cream beef something. i honestly don't remember the full name but it was another great menu item.
We wished we could have stayed and ate other yummy items but the wedding called and we were out. Hopefully we can get back to the little town of Berlin and see what else the Globe has to offer.
You'll come for the music, but you'll come back for the food! This old silent movie house has been redone as a gourmet restaurant and music venue, in beautiful style. I was there near Christmas, and everyone who came in was astonished at how great it looked.
Did I mention that this is like four restaurants in one? There are several distinct rooms, two of which cannot view the stage (which is no problem for music nights). One of the rooms is a balcony art gallery, which adds to the atmosphere.
And while the entertainment and bar are first-rate, the food is spectacular! The menu is as varied as the rooms, with Japanese, Thai, Tuscan and American dishes, along with the usual bar food and Eastern Shore stalwarts, all done with a fresh twist.
I had the Boursin Filet appetizer, which was done perfectly medium rare with a nice reduction - it was just enough without being heavy. The Seafood Florentine is sinfully rich, and everything is clearly prepared fresh from top-quality ingredients. But the Cream of Crab Soup is the prize, full of lump crab meat, but not gloppy with potatoes or starchy. Instead, it's done like an oyster stew, rich and flavorful and refreshing.
The staff are friendly and total professionals, able to really listen and make appropriate suggestions from the menu, as well as help out-of-town visitors with local info.
On your way to and from Ocean City, it's worth stopping at the Globe for lunch or dinner, or even planning an extra day in the quaint Victorian town of Berlin. We'll be back soon!
Visited recently while on vacation, yes, in the Pines. Dinner was fantastic and the chicken wings with #7 sauce are perhaps the best I've ever had. Service was attentive, decor interesting (there's an art gallery upstairs which is neat), and food quality is high. Reason for knocking off 1 star is that prices are high, several items were "out" on the menu and our appetizer came at the same time as the entree. Otherwise, good dinner!
Review Source:Wow! Â What a find off the beaten path! Â If you are headed into or out of Ocean City, MD, or live near Berlin, give this place a shot! Â The restaurant is very kitschy in its decor and the food can not be beat. Â I recently ate there for brunch and had an exceptional meal.
The upstairs also serves as an art gallery and it's hard to find a time at the restaurant when there isn't some genre of live bands performing. Â We didn't get a chance to stop by the "Coppertop Bar", but it looked like a fun place filled with friendly, colorful locals.
We will return here again!
