Sometimes I feel like I'm not cool enough to come here, but I still do. I;d come here more often, but they close at 7pm and aren't open on Sundays.
They use an iPad for credit cards. On one hand, it's neat since they'll email you a receipt, but it's also kind of gimicky. Who really needs a receipt for a cup of coffee?
Another thing to keep in mind is that the app will ask how much you want to tip, so don't be surprised. I typically don't tip for a cup of coffee, but I was caught off guard the first time and felt compelled to tip. It's a big screen facing everyone in line, so you feel kind of under the microscope.
All in all, I'm glad a place like this exists in Auburn.
One of my favorite coffee shops. They have continuously worked to better their business since purchasing it. The staff is always friendly and their coffee is distinctively outstanding. I love their chai with soy and mochas. They do have outdoor seating via patio tables placed on the sidewalk out front. Definitely check Gnu's Room out.
Review Source:If you are looking to sell used books - beware - it is a trade program only - no cash. With that said, they have a pretty interesting selection of books, and an oddly large amount of christian literature . . .but I have found some really cool, out of print books here before that I've been excited about.
Very tight spacing between rows, like most used book stores are and a nice sitting area. However, the sitting area is not very private - so if you like separate spacing, booths, dim lighting, etc for coffee house reading areas - they don't have that. They allow dogs inside the store - which is really awesome. My own dog couldn't handle the responsibility, but I really enjoy watching other dogs out on the town.
They frequently host intellectual events, open mic nights, poetry readings, so if you're in to that thing - Gnu's room is probably the only place in town you'll find it.
Also, they french press you're coffee, if you decide to get one while there. The tea selection would be improved if they offered green tea (or other teas) without fruity flavors.
I have to stop myself from spending all my money on coffee here! I typically just get the brewed coffee, nothing fancy. There is always a great selection of different roasts/beans to try and I've loved every one I've tried. It takes a little while because they french press it just for you, so I don't go in unless I'm going to sit and read for a while. The true sign of perfect coffee is when I don't have to add any milk or sugar to it...every cup here is so delicious! The atmosphere is really cool too, love this place!
Review Source:When I'm not flying helicopters I'm drinking coffee; by far the neatest hole in the wall book n coffee shop I've been to, including all of Europe, Tibet, and Patagonia. Put this place in Paris and the espresso would cost 10 euro a sip. There's about seven tables and a friendly atmosphere where the etiquette is to sit with someone you don't know and say hi, while reading a dusty book or doing some homework. This is refreshing and good for the local college students/striving young professionals to get off fb and say hi and mingle. The coffee and espresso is freshly roasted in house. Each cup is made individually, so you won't get that yucky-been-sitting-in-a-thermos-all-day-taste. Â Wifi hotspot. Pet friendly. Clean restroom. And books books books.
Review Source:This review is for both Mama Mocha's Coffee Roastery and Gnu's Room.
The service is really excellent! I called literally 3 minutes before they were about to close and the girl on the phone asked if I wanted my drink made while I drove there.
Dip their chocolate biscottis in a latte. It's the bomb dot com.
It's really nice to have an intimate bookstore/coffee shop that's not 10 miles away in Opelika.
