This is a great option if you want the feel of a BWW but don't want to be limited on the menu.
I went here to watch preseason football. They have a ton of tvs, a good beer selection, and really good food. I have only been twice, but I was really surprised at what a great atmosphere it has. From the outside, it looks like 100 other "sports bars" you see that fail in Dallas, but it really delivers.
If you compare my previous reviews of this place to my most recent review you will see that this restaurant is wildly inconsistent, you may get a really good meal, or you may get a truly horrible meal.
We have been to this restaurant at least seven or eight times previously, maybe more, mostly for dinner but a couple times for lunch. I want to see this restaurant succeed and I offer my comments as constructive criticism. I actually like this restaurant, or at least I did in the past. Unless there are changes in the kitchen, however, Â I am afraid that this restaurant will not stay in business.
The wife ordered the one-half Philly sandwich with soup, which that day was lobster bisque. The bisque was horrible, no flavor at all, and it tasted like milk or cream that was barely warm. The Philly also had problems. The meat was not seasoned and although it was cut into small chunks, it was tough and chewy. Not good. The peppers and onions had not been seasoned. The sandwich was utterly flavorless, and there was no hot sauce or any condiment on the table. The waitress, who was serving the entire restaurant by herself, could not be flagged down.
I ordered the enchiladas with green sauce, which I had ordered many times before and it was my favorite. This time I got it with chicken, which had not been seasoned. The rice and beans had not been seasoned. The entire dish was one dimensionally hot from the green chiles, with no complexity or depth of flavor. To top it off, we informed the waitress that we were pressed for time. She brought the sandwich immediately, but my enchiladas took about 20 minutes, by which time I could only take a bite or two and had to ask for a box to go. At the time we ordered we were the only people in the restaurant, so why it took so long is a mystery to me.
Overall, this place seems to have really gone downhill from the first few times we ate here. My wife says she will not return. I may go for a drink, but I too am in no hurry to eat there again. Big improvements need to be made if this place is going to stay in business.
I really wanted to like this place, because it's in my neighborhood. But .... I've been there three times, now -- once for lunch with a friend and twice at night for a drink by myself. I'm a friendly, approachable person, but NONE of the staff was friendly. And the whole atmosphere felt clique-y and cold, despite all the activity and noise. There's a really weird vibe there and I won't be going back. There are plenty of other, more friendly places to go. I also did not like the food I ordered for lunch there. Nothing special.
Review Source:I was really hoping that I had finally found a good sports bar. But this place is a pretender.
For the pros, the food is above average for bar food, and good portions too. They get good crowds, and have some decent beer prices.
But one huge con for me, is that they don't even seem to know when a Rangers game is on. All these tv's, and we have to beg them to put a game on a couple. To top that off, they'd rather loudly play 80's rock rather than actual game sound. Â We were once told "it's too quiet with the game sound". Oh ok, there's nothing like hearing Winger's "Seventeen" when the Rangers are in the middle of a pennant race in a close game.
I get the feeling they're appealing more to a social crowd than actual sports fans, in which case, if you want a bar and grill with loud music that happens to have some sports on tv, this is your place.
My new fav sports bar!! Â In my new hood! Â Open 11a-2a every day! Â HUGE portions, food is pretty darn good. Â Good Service and lots of TVs and they will actually play the games you want to watch (AHEM take note Nodding Donkey- Both locations!)
We had the chips/salsa and queso and it fed 6 people easily. Â I didn't like my garlic chicken wings, but the buffalo ones were darn good. Â The burgers are decent- I wouldn't go there just to eat their burgers but if your craving a burger they are good and the have brunch!!!
The only thing that is more awsomely strange than the very existence of this place is one section of what otherwise would be a fairly standard menu. Â Go 4 it is a bar where I was surprised bars were even allowed to be. The place stays open until 2 and that includes the kitchen. The look of the place is standard sports bar. It reminds me of a more brightly lit and newer version of Lakewood's 1st and 10. Â It is good looking but not pretensions or remarkable. Â The beer selection is moderate but good enough for a place like this and the service on a slow weekday lunch was good enough. The most remarkable thing about the place is where it is located. I bet the place really serves an under served market. Â
The most remarkable thing about Go 4 It's menu, is that along with standard bar food stuff there is a section of New Mexican food. NM food is hard to find in all of DFW but finding it in a sports bar located at NW Highway and Plano Road is almost surreal. Â I ordered enchiladas with a fried egg served 'Christmas' ie with both red and green chili sauces. Â While this food will not win any awards in Santa Fe, it was quite a good try and especially since the price was reasonable, I went away reasonably happy.
If NM food does not interest then everything else about the place is good not great. If you live near and you want a sports bar this place will do just fine but other than the unique location and the NM food there is really nothing different or special or remarkable about the place. This a neighborhood joint that does 1 thing a little different and I think that is worth the extra 1/2 star to me.
It pains me to write this because I really want this business to succeed and to support my "neighborhood" establishments. Â The parking lot is packed on weeknights now whenever I pass by on my way home from work. Â I thought I'd give it a try being Father's Day weekend and I got to pick all the places to eat.
Random thought when I first walked in..."Hey it still smells like the Blockbuster!"
My wife & I split a burger & the chicken mango avacado salad that everyone raved about. Â What was nice was the kitchen spilt everything for us. Â But the food was just "ok". Â Not horrible, but not great either. Â The kids has mac & cheese and chicken tenders. Â Same thing here. Â Not horrible, but not great either. Â The kids' food had a lot of black pepper in it and I would venture to guess most kids wouldn't like that?
I'm guessing that the big draw here is the alcohol & several big-screen TVs. Â Want a cool neighborhood place to have drinks with the guys & watch the game? Â This is your place. Â Want a tasty meal? Â Go elsewhere...
So we went back as promised. This time we ordered from the New Mexican menu offerings, since they have been highly touted. We split the 'shrooms and rings as our appetizer. And then we split the flat stack beef enchiladas.
Again it seems the deep fryer there doesn't get hot enough. The batter on both the rings and shrooms were heavy with grease. I ended up peeling the batter off and eating the mushrooms naked. The rings sat there, ignored after one bite.
My wife lived in AZ for many years and has had NM style dishes many times. I have only had it twice. Neither of us were impressed. It wasn't bad. It was boring. Almost flavorless. The shredded beef was bland and a little mushy. I think we ate 1/4 of it together before we decided to pile everything up for the bartender to take away. I always thought New Mexican food was supposed to have a little kick to it. This did not.
So I am sad to report the contray to all the rave reviews. Like I said, I really want to like the food here and support a local business. But I can't recommend the food I've had.
Go 4 It Sports Grill is in Lake Highlands near my abode. I've been there a couple of times to check it out since they are so close to the house. Â It's a very clean, friendly neighborhood bar with many flat screens so you can watch your favorite sports. Â I've tried their chicken stuffed jalapeno bacon wrap on two occasions and I love them. Â It's not greasy and it has just the right amount of kick. Â I also tried the pork tacos which came with beans and rice and that was also really good. Â Who would have thought the food is so good in a neighborhood sports bar? As for their drinks, they have a good number of beers on tap and some specialty drinks. I tried the R&R (raspberry and something) and it was surprisingly tasty. Â Overall it is a surprisingly good bar/restaurant with both Cajon and Tex-Mex fare and good service.
Review Source:Call me original, alright? My friend suggested we go to this little sports bar, which I've never heard of, so I looked up the business here on Yelp. I saw a photo of a mango/avocado salad that had chicken on it. It looked light, fresh and delicious and happened to lure my taste buds into conforming to wherever my friend wanted to go. Just note that there will be 2 photos on here of the same dish - one of them was from me. My apologies for being unoriginal, haha. The menu on this restaurant's Yelp page definitely came in handy. I already knew what I wanted before even being seated.
Unexpectedly, I became full off of my salad. It was in heaping portions, that's why. It's a good thing though. I'd rather be full off of a salad than any other junk/bar food they had readily available for me to easily scavenge around. It tasted like how I imagined it tasting when I saw a plain ol' photo of it upon hearing about the business. The combination of mango, avocado and chicken on romaine couldn't get any better. My friend had the mushroom swiss burger with fries. I can't have a say for it except for the fry I stole. It was good!
Service on the other had was exceptional; something you wouldn't expect from a bar-like restaurant. Our server was very attentive and friendly. This restaurant has pool tables in case you want to play that and has soaring TVs throughout the building to perfect your night of game-watching and junk food munching.
Very good food and close to home for me. Really fell between a three and a four star rating but can't give half stars so I had to go with a three. Blackened catfish was good, crawfish étouffée was very good but very spicy. Hamburger was good, onion rings pretty generic. Service was very good. Better than average bar food.
Review Source:WOW!!! What a surprise this was.... I was expecting the basic "Bar Fare", I was pleasantly surprised! They have a full menu from "New Mexican" specialties as good as the "Plaza in Santa Fe" to "Cajun" and of course terrific burgers.
You must try the Red Chile Pork, and the New Mexican enchiladas complete with a fried egg on top....very traditional! I told Gene the owner he was going to save me a couple of airfares a year to Albuquerque/ Santa Fe for my "Red Chile" fix. I have programmed the number into my cell phone for nights that I want to grab dinner for take-out, but it's equally comfortable even dining alone. It is very casual and friendly, mostly a neighborhood crowd....but as soon as others discover this gem it will be drawing guests from all over the city.
I didn't even mention the vast number of TV's for watching sports, pool tables, and a large comfy bar.
Great service and good food. Â We need these types of restaurants in our neighborhood. Â This is a great place to catch the game and the food is quite good. I had the Cajun Philly with tots and rings and the mrs had the Cobb salad. Our daughter had the chicken strips and they were more than enough for her to finish. We will definitely be back as it was reasonably priced and the food and service exceeded my expectations.
Review Source:Yeah, so I ended up coming here on back-to-back nights. So sue me...
Last night was for Game 6 of the ALCS, and the Rangers whipped los Tigres. That was my first visit, and VERY good times. First off, for a place that hasn't even been open 2 weeks, they had it packed to the rafters with a very active, rowdy, friendly, sportsy crowd. Before first pitch, every TV in the place was turned to the Rangers, and the sound was up for all to hear. These folks care about us local sports fans. Secondly, the BIG surprise was the service. Most newly-opened bars/restaurants can be pretty squirrelly when it comes to service. Our waitress was easily the star of the show. She recommended good food, was helpful with the beer selections, AND she was the self-appointed resident Rangers cheerleader - more on that later. We ordered food and the first round of beers, and everything was delivered in short order, as described, piping hot (food) and ice cold (beer). I ordered the Cajun Philly, which was stacked with Cajun-grilled chicken, andouille sausage, cheese, and grilled onions. That hot mess was served with a GIANT side of tater tots (oh, how I love tater tots...). My main complaint was that the sandwich was damn near too hot to eat - those onions were about 9,000 degrees. That, and it was a tad too greasy. Happily, once I started picking at it with a fork like an open-faced sandwich, all was well. I powered through most of it before I realized what I had done. My friend ordered the chicken club sandwich and reported that it was good. I think he consumed it in about eight bites.
So, back to our super-attentive, friendly waitress. Her self-appointed job was to run to the corner of the bar and perform cartwheels after each Rangers home run. Literally. I am not making this up. She even landed in the splits a couple of times. In blue jeans. And on top of all that, she took it upon herself to get the whole bar riled up with "Let's Go Rangers!" chants, etc etc etc. I'm pretty sure that was the best bar crowd I've ever shared a game with.
And then I went back tonight. Suffice to say it was a much more subdued, neighborhood crowd - the Cowboys were done, and the Rangers don't start again till Wednesday. Service was still top-notch, even without our cheerleader. This time around I ordered up some wings, and they were easily Top 5 on my list. Meaty. Juicy. Spicy. Tasty. And the blue cheese dip was a friendly compliment.
The menu is an odd mix of bar food, burgers, Cajun, and New Mexican fare which all sounds good to me. And this is a great neighborhood bar that appears to be "family friendly" - in the sense that they have a full bar, and a kids' menu, and the kids weren't obnoxious. I will definitely be back to investigate further, but early returns are looking good...
I love new local places and Go 4 It Sports Grill is something that was definitely needed in the area. A nice corner location and with ample parking (a definite plus)... there's plenty of seating and open windows (unlike most bars that rarely allow light to penetrate inside the walls), it's a place you could bring your family to watch the game and as the night progresses, come hang out with your friends (open till 2 a.m.!)
The menu seemed like your usual bar cuisine in Texas - American, Mexican with some added Cajun. I just had a drink so I'll definitely need to come back for a drink. Staff seemed nice and quick but I'll need to check it out when a big game is on.
Plenty of TVs... food.. drinks... looks like it's going to be a popular watering hole folks.
