New manager who knows the business has taken over this landmark establishment. Â I first ate here in 1980 while attending WSU.
Stopped in for lunch while traveling on business and had the potato soup served in a sourdough bowl. Â It was fantastic; rich, creamy and with a little bacon for added flavor. Â The sourdough was fresh and a great compliment to the soup. Â A nice, warm lunch on a chilly autumn afternoon.
The new manager was personable and conscientious, committed to turning the Golden Harvest, and it's reputation around. Â He has the background and determination to pull it off.
In the 4hr drive between Seattle and Spokane, there are very few good sit down restaurants. Â It's good to see the Golden Harvest, conveniently located near the halfway point, back as one of the best places to take a break for some decent comfort food.
Stopped by to use the restroom. Â Was feeling a little acid reflux. Â The person who worked there was incredibly nice and polite. Â I wasn't really hungry and my family with small children were already overtired from the long car ride, but I was trying to find something on the menu to order because of my acid stomach and because I felt bad about having my entire family use the restroom.
I didn't really find anything on the menu that would work for an acidic stomach, but the worker (manager?) comped me a little stew and gave me plenty of salted crackers. Â The crackers were a godsend. Â I tried to pay for the soup, but the manager wouldn't have it. Â When my wife ordered a soda, he gave us that as well. Â Very touched. Â And it totally saved the car ride home. Â
Later, I had the beef stew which was excellent. Â I can't say enough about how nice and kind the service was at Golden Harvest. Â I wish I had caught the nice gentleman's name.
