New manager who knows the business has taken over this landmark establishment. Â I first ate here in 1980 while attending WSU.
Stopped in for lunch while traveling on business and had the potato soup served in a sourdough bowl. Â It was fantastic; rich, creamy and with a little bacon for added flavor. Â The sourdough was fresh and a great compliment to the soup. Â A nice, warm lunch on a chilly autumn afternoon.
The new manager was personable and conscientious, committed to turning the Golden Harvest, and it's reputation around. Â He has the background and determination to pull it off.
In the 4hr drive between Seattle and Spokane, there are very few good sit down restaurants. Â It's good to see the Golden Harvest, conveniently located near the halfway point, back as one of the best places to take a break for some decent comfort food.
Stopped by to use the restroom. Â Was feeling a little acid reflux. Â The person who worked there was incredibly nice and polite. Â I wasn't really hungry and my family with small children were already overtired from the long car ride, but I was trying to find something on the menu to order because of my acid stomach and because I felt bad about having my entire family use the restroom.
I didn't really find anything on the menu that would work for an acidic stomach, but the worker (manager?) comped me a little stew and gave me plenty of salted crackers. Â The crackers were a godsend. Â I tried to pay for the soup, but the manager wouldn't have it. Â When my wife ordered a soda, he gave us that as well. Â Very touched. Â And it totally saved the car ride home. Â
Later, I had the beef stew which was excellent. Â I can't say enough about how nice and kind the service was at Golden Harvest. Â I wish I had caught the nice gentleman's name.
Has to be the worst breakfast I've ever had. I ordered the "cooked to perfection " country fried steak and gravy with eggs poached . The eggs we not fully cooked with the whites still clear. The waitress even noticed and returned them to the kitchen. The worst part was the country fried steak, over breaded and topped with gravy that that was really bad tasting. I could only eat one bite. The best part were the hash browns, and they were only average. The service was polite but lame.
No silverware, no water refill, came by once to warm my coffee, and it took almost forever to get our overpriced, terrible tasting food.
We were just driving through and needed some quick food in our stomachs and a little air conditioning. Â The limited menu they gave us was for concert weekend. Â No steaks or pies like they sign said over the door. Â It was just $10 hamburgers. Â I am pretty sure they have another menu but for some reason they gave us this even though there weren't any concerts going on at the gorge. Â
The 4 of us ordered 2 patty melts and 2 chili burgers. Â Not many people there and everyone else already had our food. Â After we ordered, the cook still was just hanging around not doing anything for a while. Â Finally the waitress noticed asked him why he wasn't cooking our food. Â Â The printer didn't print anything..... Â So it took forever to get our food and we were a little grumpy. Â The burgers and fries were OK but not worth $10. Â They didn't give us napkins or silverware and we had to find a ketchup that worked. Â Â Next time, we will keep driving.
Oh my! Â Where to begin. Â I've driven by this exit for almost 30 years in
my travels to Eastern WA, Idaho, and Montana. Â I've never stopped to
eat here - only get gas.
Today, en-route back from Montana, we were hungry, had limited time,
and figured such a "quick in, quick out" exit place would be good. Â Big
mistake. Â Both in food quality, as well as in time.
I ordered the bacon burger, clearly specifying "crispy on the bacon".
(Our waitress clearly noted this request... so it was the cook's fault)
Anne ordered the French dip with a side salad. Â Then we waited. Â And
waited. Â And waited. Â 25 minutes later (!!), our food came (the place
wasn't that busy - just a few tables, with 2 cooks and 2 waitresses).
The first thing was the salad... nothing but yellow Iceberg innards...
the sort of lettuce most of us toss out as being bad. Â It had very dried
out carrot slivers that were gray. Â It was disgusting. Â Anne nor I touched
it. Â We just pushed it aside.
Then came the burger - RAW bacon (OK, not raw, but the floppy
gooey pre-sorta-fried bacon they keep in the pan to cook to order).
It was just GROSS and slimy!!! Â I'd have taken it off, except the
Cheeze Wiz or whatever goopy cheese they put on it sort of glued
it to the burger and they could not be separated. Â This burger was
TEN BUCKS - a Quarter Pounder with Cheese for a buck would be
a much better bet from McDonald's than this dreck.
Anne's French dip (TEN bucks!) had old, gristly beef and very little
of it. Â The bun wasn't toasted and was on stale bread.
Service: Â We had to ask for napkins, as none were on the table.
We got them. Â Then we realized there was no silverware - so we
had to ask for that. Â How could they not notice there was not cutlery
nor napkins on the table upon service? Â I will say the young
waitress was very nice... just not very observant. Â (I left her a very
good tip).
This was the 44 minute point - we had lost almost an HOUR in
our travels, and left hungry. Â The very sweet and apologetic
waitress (I stressed most of it was NOT her fault!) comp'ed us
the meal - which we didn't eat, so that was fair. Â As I said, I left
her a tip fully as it would have been had the food been edible, and
assured her it was NOT her fault.
This place needs new management or preferably a new owner
who actually realizes the goldmine freeway exit potential they have.
It's an utter waste to stop here for food. Â Please don't.
Dave & Anne
We stopped here for the same reason I suspect most others do: the kids are restless in the backseat and you're in the middle of nowhere and need to stop.
We happened by here on the 4th of July. It wasn't our first option but it was the only thing open. Â We ordered a plate of fish and chips ($10.99) and chicken strips and fries ($9.99). This was the lunch menu.
Our plates appeared and there wasn't a green thing on them. There were 2 large chicken strips of McDonald's "quality" and french fries of school cafeteria quality.
My fish and chips looked like something you'd get in a box from a frozen food section of the local supermarket, commercially deep-fried and served with the same fries as mentioned above. There was nothing served on the side, such as vegetables or salad.
$24 bill for 2 lunch items. I didn't order anything for my toddler from the kid's menu - I wasn't about to shell out $6-7 for a child-sized entree for this type of food. Â She ate off our plates and complained several times on the way home that her tummy hurt.
On the plus side, our waitress was polite and on top of things. Wouldn't stop here again unless we were in the same situation.
I dont know what to say! I did not eat a meal here but I sat had a piece of "homemade" pie and watched my friends eat ...square fish and chips (the fish was square never a good sign) and frozen fries...a big burger..it was one of those preformed patty hamburgers with really Americany smelling "American" cheese ...it shames me to call this stuff "American" Cheese but you know what I mean
it is a truck stop type place and if you are hungry ..have plenty of money  and do not care what you eat...it is reasonably clean ..people try to be friendly ..I would rather just ask for saltines and drink coffee than eat there but since the coffee was disgusting and I could not drink it that was not an option! ...count your change! We were shorted $6 at the register for coffee and it totally had a domino affect on the poor server who thought we were mad and then kept tripping over herself in a frenzy
my friends ate everything and thought it was "ok"
the "homemade" pie had canned generic bulk filling in a frozen crust
really horrid
had bfast here. slow service in spite of hardly a crowd, they served my kids spongy pancakes. my 9yo son was up on it..."i'm gonna need milk more than ever!" Â i was ready to get on my way so i didn't push the issue but should have. just horrid to pay $35 for 3 people on crappy breakfasts. oh yeah i had biscuits n gravy. they put the gray in gravy. absolutely average. the OJ was the best part.
the poor "waitress" there looked completely confused, in general. she had *me* confused, lol
"I am totally going to Yelp this place when I get back home."
...and here we are. Starving, exhausted and no where close to Seattle, the Beau and I decided to stop in Vantage for some lunch. We had a choice between a burger stand and a sit-down diner, we opted for the fine dining.
The service was really good and they had these fun little books at each table (How to Piss People Off; You Know You Are Old When...). There weren't too many people but we were definitely not the only patrons.
From where I was sitting I could see the Chef. She was a hard worker and very clean. I could see her cleaning whenever she was waiting for the next order. I dug that.
I ordered, Liver and Onions (don't judge), which were really good, crispy, tasty and not greasy at all. The prices were very reasonable. The Beau got fries and an artichoke sandwich. The fries were cooked to perfection.
The bathrooms were clean and there was also ample parking. If you are ever trekking from the Eastern Washington to Western Washington, definitely try to check this place out. I'd love to see them stay in business!
