This place is great, easily one of my favorite bars in the area. I'll miss it when I move!
Whenever I go, there's plenty of spots at the bar. I usually just get something light (Coors). A regular pint will run about $3.50 and before I finish I'm always asked if I want another. If you're like me, you hate sitting at a bar with an empty glass... right? Not a problem here. The food is good and cheap too!
On the nights I go, they seem to always have a live band playing, more country music than anything else.
I definitely would recommend the Golden Nugget to anyone looking for a good casual atmosphere and cold drinks.
The bartenders are nice, attentive, and honest. I asked if there were any beer specials (on a Monday night), and he said, "well, our beer is already really cheap so there is no need for it." Touché. If you look closely, you will see that the wings are $5.50 for ten, all the time. Insane. In Philly you often end up paying up to $12 for eight "gourmet" wings, that are okay, but let's face it - when I want wings, I want cheap, crispy and tasty. That's it. Nowhere in Philly proper meets my standards. PLEASE correct me if you think I am wrong. Anyway, this place is known for wings, and music, so let's talk wings, at least (live music only on the weekends).
An order of twenty sets you back $10.50. Wednesday and Thursday nights, it's all you can stomach for $7. I will be back for that, you can count on it. The wings came out quick, hot, and incredibly crispy. The flavor was well developed and I tasted both garlic and I believe chicken bouillon in the sauce. Seriously. There was a nice layer of heat, and the crispiness was just perfect. No lie, these may be my favorites ever.
I'm surprised to see all of the good reviews so I'm thinking that we caught this place on a bad day. Â I don't mind dive bars if the food and service is good, but we didn't have either.
I should've known any establishment in which a child was allowed to sit at the bar playing touch screen video games while his mother drank, was not the place to be.  It was pretty busy in there and only one useful bartender was working.  We were starving, our wings took forever, and they weren't even good.  The drumsticks were barely edible with hard chunky pieces of meat(?) on them.  I actually spit some into a napkin because it was so bad.  The other pieces were ok.  I asked one of the waitresses for a Soco and lime, and she poured some warm Southern Comfort in a shot glass with a chunk of lime in the shot glass.  The other waitress noticed and made me another one, but  that wasn't redeeming enough. it was just depressing being here. Â
The reason why I give two stars is because the one waitress had a great memory of our drink orders even though it took forever to get them,  and the bathroom was clean.
The Nugget is one of those places you feel proud for finding (since it is in the middle of nowhere) and then feel the need to make sure that every friend and family member of yours also has the glorious moment of discovering these wings. Â They are different than your usual buffalo wings... it has a bit of... citrus? to it. Â They are small so make sure you order a lot of them, you won't want to stop. Â Two girl friends and I can devour a party tray (60 wings) in less than 15 minutes. Â It's business.
As far as the atmosphere... well, you'll either love its rough, southern redneck vibe or you will hate it and question its cleanliness. Â But these are things you've got to ignore and just enjoy the food. Â The people are friendly enough and, personally, I get a good laugh out of it every time I go.
Wednesdays and Thursdays are all you can eat wings for something around $7-$9 and is well worth it. Â Sides such as onion petals and fries are okay and decently priced. Â Live bands play on the weekends and there is a dance floor if you want to make the night particularly interesting.
They did start a new rule within the last year or so: Â If you are under 21, you must be with parents. Â This sucks, I know; I've been going there since I was 16 and then all of the sudden they put this rule into affect. Â They seem to be sticking to it, too, so if you have a youngin' with you, make your order for take-out instead.
Scary place for a person of color. It feels like you went back in time in the deep south. But once you get over the initial shock of the atmosphere, it's great. I love the wings!!!! The bartenders and the cooks are very nice. The drinks are good. I had a lot of good times at Golden Nugget.
Review Source:I was with Sara on that Thanksgiving night. Â I introduced her to this place. Â Regardless of the white trash that frequents the nugget, the wings are the best you will ever have. Â The fact they have blue moon and #9 on tap for $3 is great as well. Â Not the best beer in the world, but it's hard to expect it at a redneck bar like this.
Review Source:The night before Thanksgiving. Â The biggest drinking night of the year, right? Well this year, I spent it at the Golden Nugget, and let me tell you, it was an experience. Â
I think it was the first time in my life that I felt like a "city slicker". Â Three things stood out to me as we walked into the bar: country music karaoke, framed pictures of Nascar drivers, and lots of line dancing. Â For a couple hours, I felt like I wasn't on the East Coast anymore.
Cheep beer - $3 Magic Hat # 9 and Blue Moon drafts - though this is the kind of clientele that sticks to Budweiser, Miller, and Pabst. Â Now I'm sure you're wondering - what's a bleeding liberal like me doing in the middle of what I'm sure was McCain country during the election? Â
Lemme tell ya - it's all about the wings here. Â On Wednesdays, for eight bucks, it's all you can eat wing night. Â Though I did not fall prey to that special, I did try a 10-piecer, and these babies were pure gold. Â The wing sauce - which seems to have some kind of Italian dressing base - is spicy and sweet, and the wings are lightly fried. Â Amazing.
If anything, the music, crowd, and atmosphere was enough to keep me entertained. Â South Jersey, you are a strange, strange place.
