Vacationing in Edwards, stopped in for dinner. Had some great vegetarian appetizers for myself which was really nice since I'm usually stuck with a plain salad. Highly recommend the chick pea sticks, the shishitou peppers, and the quinoa salad. Also had a super yummy gluten free chocolate cake. The outside seating on the patio was really nice too! Friendly service too!
Review Source:Some of the reviewers who have given this establishment a one star must have mixed it up with Burger King or maybe Wendy's. Gore Range is a fantastic place to feast upon a sports-bar styled, yet true to Colorado meal. It's a great place to eat, drink, and be merry. It's a wonderful place to bring both friends and family wether it's to eat or to watch the big game. Sure, I've had a bad waiter every now and then, but 90% of the time, I get excellent service. It's understandable how rushed the waiters are sometimes when they are completely packed, as with any restaurant. I've had no meal here that has let me down.
Review Source:We were in the Vail area for a long weekend and had a late lunch at Gore Range. Â We located them through their excellent website which helped us decide to go there instead of another place that had a poor site.
Even though they were busy, and there was an event going on in a nearby town, the service was excellent.
The good:
- We were greeted right away with a smile, then seated on their very nice patio
- A very friendly server took our drink orders which came quickly. Â Our meals were brought out in a timely fashion.
- The server noted an item that should have come with the meal even before we noticed, then got it very quickly.
- Overall the food was well prepared and good. Â The homemade fries were extra good and the lamb burger I ordered was huge and cooked just as I asked for it!
The not so good:
- One in our party had ordered the pulled pork sandwich which was very dry and hard to chew. Â The server did stop by early on to ask how things were going and he noted that this was not good. Â She quickly apologized and whisked it away, then brought a menu back saying he should pick something else. Â He picked the chicken which he said was very good. Â This took away one star, and could have been more had the server not handled it so great.
The bad: Â Nothing
All in all, except for the dry pork, the food, service and atmosphere was great. Â We'll be back when our travels bring us to the area again. Â Recommended!
never again...
I recently was vacationing in Edwards, Co. My family and I decided to try a local spot Gore Range and Brewery looked good, so why not.
While eating I went to use the restroom and noticed I was accompanied by the cook, chef, or kitchen staff. I was shocked to see after his completion of the restroom he left without washing his hands. Being from California I know there are law and regulations making sure workers wash their hands to promote cleanliness and health. This was not the case here.
Disgusted I walked over to the female manager working on 1/26/13 and told her what I saw. She stated she would speak to the individual and handle it. I wanted to make sure there was something being done about this. Upsettingly I never saw her go and speak to this person who was now back and working in the kitchen. I again made a request about this unacceptable behavior and she replied " I can't do anything about it, its human nature" and walked away. This infuriated me!
I like good food and good beer, I also like a healthy and clean place to enjoy those. This was not it. Especially the way the situation was handled. One star is being generous.
What does an overly-fancy glitzmagnet like the Vail Valley need? Â A bomb-ass brewpub that serves up high quality brews and eats that go toe-to-toe with every other fancy Eagle Co establishment while ditching the snobby tourist trap atmosphere that pervades the valley. Â Quite simply, if you're in the area and looking for a down to earth place to grab locally brewed beer along with some amazing food, Gore Range Brewery is the place you want to be.
Les break it down for ya, so you can get the low on how high this sideways place get's down. Â Or something. Â I think I heard someone use those words on a chairlift once, but maybe not in that order.
Food. Â I'd get all Shakespeare on this, except that most of the dishes here are best described by "ooh" and "yum," to borrow the parlance of the noble Neanderthal. Â The menu starts off with some great apps, with the giant pretzels and nachos being particularly outstanding, especially as apres fare. Â Soups and salads? Â Uh, yeah. Â Grilled cheese is mandatory with tomato soup; salads aren't just a pile of green with a tomato on top. Â Sandwiches are a strong suit, cf. delicious brisket and reubens, burgers perform well if not outstandingly. Â Da 'Za delivs--no boring pies here, especially with what's on the special board. Â And the entrees always, absolutely deliver. Â It's good food, plain and simple.
Beer. Â Or as the Germans like to say, Bier, which sounds exactly the same except louder. Â Very solid to say the least. Â The beer is all over the place in terms of style and it changes frequently. Â The pale ale is always delicious and the wheat beer is solid if not worth starting a new thread about on BeerAdvocate. Â The rest of the beer menu, as far as I can remember through past-looking beer goggles, is usually in flux, but it delivers. Â When the brewer starts messing around and getting all zany and whatever other words the kids use, those brews are usually really good. Â In fact, if they'd just start putting out more beer nerd style beer, they could probably be one of the better breweries in the state.
Service and Ambiance. Â Yeah, I like chillin' in here wit my dogs 'n' bros. Â Or whatever chairlift guy said, he looked like he was dressed for the terrain park so I don't trust him, damn kids. Â It's a nice atmosphere, with lots of wood and well thought out lighting accents. Â The bar area sits in between two dining areas and the walls are more windows than wood. Â It feels cozy and friendly; not divey but not too fancy either. Â And most people in there are smiling and friendly, as mountain folk are wont to be. Â Service has always been good for me. Â Staff is friendly and knowledgeable about their food and beer and it's always been prompt. Â GRB is a good place to hang in my book.
Price. Â Well, I'm cheap. Â But GRB isn't a discount kinda joint. Â That I think the value is on target says a lot. Â Most food clocks in at $10, the beer at $5. Â It's not a cheap apres or dinner joint, but the food, beer, ambiance, and service all are on point, so it's hard to say that there's a value disparity. Â You're not getting a bargain here, but it's not what I'd call expensive either, and the whole experience is certainly worth the moderate price tag.
The crime? Â Delicious food and beer in a friendly, cozy environment. Â The punishment? Â Visits from happy locals and visitors alike. Â It's a harsh sentence, but Gore Range Brewery viciously wins my heart by filling my belly, making my head spin, and doing it all with a smile, so the punishment must fit the crime. Â Next time you're in Edwards (or looking to apres after skiing Vail or the Beav) stop by Gore Range Brewery and enjoy an evening of food and beer in the mountains.
I decided to revisit the Gore Range Brewery several nights ago with the family. We tried to go to Etown which we love but the wait was to long. We ordered and then about 25 minuets latter the manager came over and told us they forgot to place our order , apologized and said it would be a while before our food was ready. She said she would adjust our bill. When we received our bill she had done nothing! I gave her a stare and she could care less. This really ticked me off so I gave the waitress a 20% tip as I hold the Manager responsible for this screw up and her B.S. about adjusting the bill. As a result of her actions(manager) I will not be back. My family prefers Etown as the food and service is always great, which is why there is always a wait for a table. Its always a shame when bad management kills a small restaurant.
I would  replace  this woman before its too late..
My beer snob companion thought the beer was great. Short ribs, as other have said, were tasty. The house salad was good too, not your average boring affair, this one had onions, kalamata olives, BACON, blue cheese...the other salads looked great too as did pretty much everything on the menu. Wish we were staying longer so we could come back.
Also, we walked in at 8 on Saturday and were seated immediately, served drinks right away and food shortly thereafter. Place was busy but not chaotic. If we are in the area again we'll definitely be back.
The Gore Range Brewery sounds like a great choice one night when meeting up with some family that was in town. First and foremost the beer was delicious. I can't recall what brew I had but everyone enjoyed what they had to offer. When meal time came round I ordered the brisket sandwich on a pretzel bread. It was a treat; extremely filling and very tasty. The whole crowd seemed to enjoy their meal. The atmosphere was bit loud but I think that had to do with the design of the building and we were seated next to a window that was absolutely drafty and cold. Otherwise I'd go back to try more local brews and food.
Review Source:First of all, this place has pretty decent food AND beer (a little too much mayo in the salad dishes, namely the Fall Salad, and the mussels were sort of tasteless, though good quality). BUT the food and beer, and the fact that it's pretty regularly packed, is not enough for us to overlook the fact that it is chaos in there. Who's in charge?!
Walking in, there was nobody at the door taking down parties. It took 10 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us and the hostess blatantly walked by us w/o so much as a word. No, this is not a fancy place, but it's not cheap either! Might be time for some employee training. Don't get me wrong, our server Nicole was friendly and totally accommodating (I wouldn't say she in particular needs more training). But once seated, our beers alone took at least 15 minutes. One main dish came at least 30 minutes after the beers but none of our other dishes came out for another 15 minutes thereafter. We commented on the timing to Nicole, who was understanding, but then nobody else came to our table to apologize or say anything whatsoever. Nothing was marked down in the end either. Kudos to Nicole for handling a tough situation but as Edwards residents, can't say we'll be back; we've given this place way too many chances.
I'm not sure what these two and three star people are talking about because we ate here and it was perfect. We've been on the road for four days exploring cuisine and this topped it all. We split the summer salad, potato skins, chicken sandwich and fresh blueberry cobbler. The portions were perfect size and everything tasted phenomenal. They even brought out our food the order we requested with perfect timing. Our server was Natalia and she was great too! All around fantastic experience!
Review Source:This review is just for the beer and fries. We didn't eat a meal here so I have no idea what their food is like.
We thought their Nitro ESB was fantastic! It is inspiring me to maybe try nitro on my own homebrew because it makes it go down so smooth. I tried the sampler of beers and really liked the stout and the farmhouse ale. Their garlicky fries were good, and the bartender was very nice. We caught some of the olympics and baseball on their flat screen TVs at the bar.
I have no complaints here, we were on a cross country road trip (seeing breweries, baseball games, and vintage vinyl stores and to see family) and it was an enjoyable place to make a stop on the west side of Denver.
We were so excited to find out that GRB had a gluten free menu. However of the two gf burger (no bun) meals ordered one arrived with a regular bun. We sent it back to the kitchen and it returned to our table in under 5 minutes. Suspicious that a new burger was not made, we sent it back explaining to the waiter that if the bun was just taken off our son would get sick. He returned again 10 minutes later with a new burger. We were told that the fries were gluten free and fried in a seoerate frier, so both gf diners tried them. Â Unfortunately both gf diners were sick after eating gf meals. Wish restaurants would actually make gf food for people with celiac instead of just diners wishing to sort of be gluten free.
The rest a the non gf diners had decent food.
Had such a bad experience at the GRB tonight i decided to sign up on yelp just to write about it.
The first time wasn't great either but I believe in second chances. Second time was worse.
Drinks: Beer is ok, red ale and pale ale are their best.
Service: they try, but really it seems like no one cares and can't get your order right.
Food: took us 30-40 minutes to get nachos and a little pizza. Don't recommend either. Could tell the cheese was melted on the chips and then sat under a heat lamp and got rock hard until the pizza was ready. Toppings were a glob of salsa, sour cream, guacamole, and some really dry tasteless chicken pieces. My wife had the goat cheese pizza with craisins and pistachios. Flavor was interesting but the dough was tasteless and the entire pizza was dry. It needed a sauce or some olive oil or something.
I would not recommend going here for anything other than an expensive marginal beer.
Beer: 4 stars
Food: 4 stars
Service: 2 stars
You come to a brewery mainly for the beer so we will start with that...
I got a flight in order to sample a few beers. I found it interesting they put it in no particular orders as most breweries I've been to put the beers in the suggested drinking order. The Powder Day Ale was solid, the wheat beer was forgettable, the stout was very good, and the red ale was by far the best. If I had to go with one pint it would hands down be the red ale.
The food was pubby, but that's to be expected. The wings were very good. We had to get mild as we had a wimp in the group, but they were cooked well, not overly crispy and certainly not mushy (which is always a turn off). The burgers were solid and large, order them if you are starving. One person got the pulled pork and was pleased with the sandwich. The sweet potato fries were great, lightly salted and appeared more baked than fried.
The atmosphere was very good and energetic. The usual exposed piping and brewery equipment for display. However, the service really brings the rating down. Our server was completely uninterested in waiting on us. He would disappear and was hard to flag down. He also messed up our order. While I mentioned above the sweet potato fries were good, we weren't suppose to get the sweet potato fries. We were suppose to get sweet potato skins ... Since we just got our food pretty much thrown on the table and the guy never showed back up, we just went with it.
I would come back for a few beers, but would definitely skip the table service...
Really cool restaurant!
They make their own beer in house, and have some excellent dark beers and also their red ale is probably the best red ale I've ever had. Â The food is pretty fantastic too. Â Nothing really crazy but definitely a place for your standard pub fair with a twist. Â Super friendly staff! Â Everyone is so nice that works there and you feel welcomed as soon as you arrive. Â A local hang out and one thing that I've noticed about Colorado is that everyone is really nice and also has a drinking problem, hahaha, so this is the perfect place to come to! Â Jen is such a nice bartender, and patient haha. Â
Get the nachos and the rueben!!! Â Not both at the same time because that'd be way too much food!
For Gore Range Brewery I have a split vote.
Three stars on the beer. It tasted ok but was not really all that memorable or a standout. I got the wheat beer and while it was not bad... again it was not outstanding.
What I did feel was outstanding was their pizza. Four stars for the pizza that I had. Â I had a very unique pizza with pistachios and cranberries in it. Almost always in adventurous mood when it comes to eating I of course had to order it. Despite what some may say about the nontraditional ingredients in this particular pizza; the pizza was delicious!
If I ever make it back to Edwards I will indeed make a point to have lunch here. Not necessarily for the beer but for the pizza!!
Not sure yet. Â The Brewery, for years, had average food. Â I felt it was consistently mediocre and I ate there infrequently.
New Owners: The Brewery now has new owners and a new menu. Â The food seems to be much better. Â I've been twice and I am optimistic about the improved menu. Â The bar and restaurant were hopping and the service was great. Â I'll try them again. Â So far so good.
If you swore off the Brewery years ago it may be worth giving them another try.
Average food, good beers. "wood-fired" pizza's were very under-cooked. When I see wood fired on a menu I think crispy crust w a slight smokey flavor, this was a very flimsy crust. We went with a group of 15 and nobody was really impressed w the food, although the buffalo wings weren't amazing, they were the only thing that got above average feedback.
Beers were good, great sex honey ale, whitewater wheat were both good. Â I would maybe come here for a few pints, but NOT dinner.
I used to really love this place, but a few moths ago the place came under new management or hired a new head chef or something and the place is just not what it used to be. Â The menu has been stripped down and some of the best stuff from the old menu didn't make the cut. Â And I don't know if you can even call yourself a "brewery" if you have less than a half dozen beers on your menu. Â The "Great Sex Honey Ale" was killer but they for some reason decided to get rid of it. Â The food that we had was fine... Â There was nothing outright offensive about it, but if you're going to do a total overhaul of a restaurant, you should at least have something spectacular to show for it. Â Also, the service was hands down THE WORST that I've ever experienced at a restaurant. Â We were seated next to the kitchen so we could see our appetizer get set up to be picked up and there it sat for TWENTY MINUTES while our waiter walked past it SEVEN times. Â Unimpressed.
I hope this new style pays off for you guys, because it's not working for me.
What happened, you guys? This used to be one of my family's favorite restaurants in the Vail Valley. Since they've changed management or something, the menu was cut down to a mere page of mostly bar food. It used to be a very extensive menu of at least four pages. Our favorite things had been taken off. The rotisserie chicken was once kind of a staple here, but they don't have it anymore. The only thing left from the old menu that I liked was the buffalo chicken salad, and they're serving it differently -- the onions were small and basically fried pieces with no onion in them and the salad was soggy.
Then there's the beer -- or lack thereof. I hardly think you can call a restaurant "The Brewery" when you have maybe seven beers total on the menu. They aren't even brewing their own anymore, and when we inquired as to whether they would still eventually get back to serving their "Great Sex Honey Ale", a real favorite, they said they likely wouldn't be. They want to try new things, which is clearly not working out for them. Maybe they shouldn't mess with a good thing.
We also had terrible service when we went. Our waitress was extremely inattentive and checked on us maybe twice throughout the whole meal, once to take our order, and once to drop off the bill. We flagged her down several times, but she was very nonchalant about serving us at all. One of us got a glass of wine so late after requesting it that she no longer wanted it anymore as she had completely finished her meal by that point.
I'm sorry to say that I don't think we'll be visiting The Brewery much anymore unless they get their act together. It's just not what it used to be.
Meh... Â That's how I feel after my meal tonight at Gore Range Brewery. Â I was looking forward to trying this place, as I'll be working in the area (from Denver) for the next few months. Â Stood at at door/hostess area for about 2:00 minutes (is that long? it felt long) before someone greeted/sat me. I'll note that 5 different employees walked by without saying anything, and making eye contact. Â After being seated, I ordered the Powder Day Pale Ale....which ended up being the most solid part of the whole visit. Â Ordered the grilled chicken portabella salad as my entree, and it was mediocre at best. Â The lettuce was soggy, Â the grilled chicken was extremely dry...and the portabella was flavorless.
(note: see other reviews..the salad was drenched in balsamic vinaigrette...suggest you order on the side)
Followed up the Pale Ale with the Biker Stout, which more of a dry stout vs. an american style (think Guinness), which was served on nitro apparently. It had decent aroma, but severely lacked in body/mouth feel for my taste.
I can see how this place has it's own little niche in this small town, but I suspect it wouldn't do well among the competition of Denver area breweries. Â The brewery area/system is beautiful, from what i can see, and one could see there was a lot of money spent on the equipment....I would however implore the owners to put an emphasis on higher quality ingredients/preparation of food, and perhaps a better emphasis on educating and expanding (read seasonal/experimental) the brewery side of the restaurant. Â Perhaps this small of a market doesn't justify such endeavors, but I personally am a believer in quality vs. quantity...and I think more or less, others are as well.
I may give Gore Range another shot in the coming months, Â but I'm not hopeful at this point. Â First impressions are key.
As this is the only brew pub in my neighborhood, I visit here maybe once a quarter (so a number of times over 6 years). Things here don;t really change much and in short they have pretty good food, pretty good service and barely average beer.
Very typical upscale pub styled food is the fare: the Thai pizza is not to be missed, and all their BBQ (pork & chicken) is very satisfying. The back patio makes for a good apres rafting/fishing/hiking spot, but make sure to pass on the patio on a music night as the bands are typically way too loud to have a conversation.
If only the beer was good, this place would move up into 4 stardom.
This was exactly the casual, down to earth place I needed after a few days of fancy Vail Village dinners. Â After a long day of skiing in snowy weather, I was really craving cold beer and comfort food.
This brewery is mid-sized, but even on a Friday night, our party of 8 only had to wait for 45 minutes during peak times. Â It's lively and bustling, and service is quick.
The menu features 6 regular beers plus a seasonal one, all from their brewery and on tap. Â The sizes range from a 5 oz taste for only $1.50 to a pitcher (64 oz) for $16. Â It's cheap enough to get a full set of tastings of each flavor. Â My favorite was the dark great sex honey ale, which had a really sweet note at the end.
The menu features standard brewery fare, from burgers and sandwiches to pizzas to ribs and bbq. Â We started with wings and nachos. Â Wings come in regular bbq, Thai, or buffalo, and they're not as greasy as I expected. Â The nachos were big, but they didn't have enough salsa and other toppings.
I had the chicken and portabello salad, which was simple and standard but the light and satisfying dish I needed. Â With some extra bbq sauce (they have honey mustard or regular, which is more vinegary), it was exactly what I was craving. Â The garlic herb roasted chicken is a huge half of a rotisserie chicken, with a slight lemon taste, and it was super moist. Â I loved the bbq sauce, so I covered the chicken in it. Â We got it as a combo with ribs, so it was a huge dish that also came with 2 sides. Â Pulled pork was standard and sweet. Â Portions are really filling, so it's a good deal.
The vegetarian pizza was thin crust, but I prefer my crust a bit more crisped. Â Sides included vegetables, sweet barbecue baked beans, cole slaw, mashed potatoes, and parmesean potatoes, which were crisped roasted potatoes, but they lacked the kick I expected.
We were too stuffed for dessert. Â Service was quick once we were seated, and the server was polite. Â It's a pretty packed place on a weekend night. Â It's a great local spot that's a good change from the Vail Village area.
My husband and I stopped in to Gore Range completely on a whim - we were headed to Lark Burger and decided we'd rather sit down and eat. Should have stuck to Lark Burger!
Gore Range wasn't horrible, but I've definitely had better food and service. I had a beer (no gluten free options) and ordered the beef brisket platter with mashed potatoes and a side salad. The salad was a really strange combo of ingredients and was drenched in dressing. Next time - dressing on the side... The brisket was pretty fatty, but the good news is that it wasn't drenched in sauce (just smoked - yum - sauce on the side) so it was relatively easy to cut around the fat.
Our server was okay, but there was definitely preference toward the locals at the Gore Range. The upside to this place was that there were a ton of TVs and my husband really wanted to see a Mets/Yankees game, so we were totally covered. Although it won't be high on my list, I'd visit Gore Range again. Maybe the second time is the charm!
When I first moved to the Vail area I lived out of a hotel room. Â This place was dinner at least three times a week. Â The good news...I never got sick of it! Â The pizza's are awesome and the artichoke dip is great. Â I love the Great Sex Honey Ale and the White Water Wheat. Â
Check them out on Friday afternoons during summer. Â They usually have live music on the back patio.
The beer I ordered - a hefeweizen - wasn't the most memorable. But of all the breweries, I've toured this one ranks right up there solely for the fact that our bartender was awesome. He let us give ourselves a self-guided tour of the brewery, gave us free mugs leftover from last year and was very funny/friendly.
Plus, in snotty Eagle County, it's nice to find a comfortable place with an everyone knows your name kind of atmosphere.
The Gore Range was my home away from home for about three years - I had Mug #3. Â It's a moderately small place frequented mostly by Edward's locals or friends of. Â The food is decent bar food, the best being, in my opinion, the garlic roasted chicken. Â Jeremy the Brewer there really works hard on coming up with consistently good beers - and he's a good guy. Â My favorite is the Powder Day Pale of which I probably drank an entire tank myself...
