These words may, to an extent, fall on deaf ears - for the category of people that will find themselves in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas is probably not a huge one. Â That said, if you are ever near or in this area, if you're ever in Wichita and/or traveling to Kansas City, KS (and points in between), make an effort to get off the main interstate and take the scenic tour through the infamous Flint Hills of Kansas so that you make it to this little gem of a town and establishment.
The town of Cottonwood Falls is a small one. Â And it is one which has probably seen its better days. Â But its cobblestone main street, classic old courthouse and shops are not to be missed. Â Included in that category is this hotel/restaurant.
This review is not for the hotel itself, but for the restaurant. Â I will say the hotel appears immaculate and I would not hesitate to stay there. Â But the restaurant itself is outstanding. Â Amazing food, great prices and excellent, friendly service.
Again, if you're ever within reach of this town, make it a point to pass through. Â Not only is the surrounding countryside incredibly beautiful, the shops and people of this town are truly a great group of folks and you'll be glad you stopped by.
A nice setting, the food is always prepared well and service is top notch. Â I don't eat meat, but friends/family who have eaten here say it's the best steak they've ever had. Â There are several vegetarian items on the menu as well. Â It's a relaxing drive (especially in spring/summer/fall) to Cottonwood Falls, you can't beat the Flint Hills setting and the town is unique.
Review Source:If I was rating purely on the steak, then the Grand Central would get about a 4.5. Â Otherwise, I found it lacking in quite a few areas. Â First, my experience with the wait staff was terrible. Â Even though there were less than 10 people in the whole restaurant, it took 15 minutes just to get our drinks (4 glasses of wine and a scotch). Â Other details seemed to be poorly thought out. Â The appetizers came out in plastic baskets - which seemed poor form for a place marketing itself as a high end steak place. Â The third issue was the poor kitchen staff. Â It was nearly an hour after ordering that we got our entrees. Â Again, it was a bit shocking considering there was hardly anyone there. Â
Overall, the place is cute but not worth the drive. Â There are some major kinks to me ironed out before I would recommend it as a destination. Â Otherwise, stay in Wichita or check out some better places in Emporia.
This place is all its cracked up to be. Excellent intimate setting, perfect for a romantic date, or an important business date, or a special occasion with family or friends. Very classy/fashionable menu, with traditional steakhouse type items, as well as more modern delicacies and appetizers, food cooked to perfection of how it is ordered. A+ Staff that know everything pertinent to the food, restaurant and area. Very courteous, considerate, discrete and professional. For a special occasion this dining experience is worth the price. I highly recommend this dining experience at least once to everyone. You will not regret it.
Review Source:If you are looking for a steak house, look no further. As far as I am concerned, this place has the best steaks in the entire country. The service was good, along with the atmosphere, all made for a perfect dinner. Unless you happen to live in Cottonwood Falls, you will probably have a serious drive to get there, but it's worth it. The only reason I haven't returned here on my last trip to Kansas was because my cousin is having serious gall bladder problems and didn't want to watch me eat steak while she ate a bowl of jello. I can't wait to get back.
