Grants has history. Want to hear live music or hip hop - this is the place to go. Our bartender was super friendly and told us the great story about this historic place. The bathrooms are small, its dark, its smokey. You have to hope this place never goes away because patrons who like to support local and live music, as well has historic places that have stories about the history of rock and roll.
Review Source:If you want history and lots of it, there is no other place to go. Grant's is a special place that I adore when I hit Macon. Edward is one great guy and even comes to Atlanta to catch some blues and promote Grant's with me. This place is teaming with the words "if these walls could speak". So many amazing acts have played there and even gotten their starts there like the Allmans, Lynyrd Skynyrd and more. It's legendary!
If you are looking for a restaurant, or some fancy joint this isnt for you. Grant's holds true to the original design, and all the history on the walls tell it. Among the hundreds of pictures from the old days you can find some amazing signatures on the walls...including mine..hehe...thanks Ed.
But really, the music flowing out of this place still is amazing, The Lee Boys, Tommy Talton, Chuck Leavell, and the list goes on. The Allman family love the place and I have been down for several Allman after parties and fundraisers. If you make a trip to Macon, you have to go see Ed...he may just hop on stage and play keys for you.
The Nightclub Downtown Macon, where The Allman Bros.-Wet Willie-Marshall Tucker Band all got their start, during the day they would cut tracks at  nearby Capricorn Studios, and at night would scroll on over to Grant's Lounge and play a gig or two.Even long after becoming well established acts, they would still play here at Grant's and give Free Concerts at The Macon Coliseum(usually package shows)You'd get Lynyrd Skynyrd with Grinderswitch and Charlie Daniels one night, then the next night you'd get Wet Willie with The Allman Bros. and Little Feat.
Then you'd get The Marshall Tucker Band with Captain Beyond and Elvin Bishop.then round it off with Cowboy also known as Boyer and Talton.
Those Were The Days. The Club still stands but is no longer in business, but would be cool to drive past and take snapshots.Get some photos at the club where Macon's Finest got their start.
