This place is a dump!!! Â My husband and I have eaten there several times before and out experience was great. Â It has been about 1 year since our last visit. Â The floor was filthy, all the walls were bare. Â The food was beyond terrible!!! Â We had the Calamari and Fish and Chips. Â The Calamari was rubbery and greasy. Â There was no lemon or Tabasco to season it with. Â The Fish and Chips, well lets just say the fish was the frozen type that you would purchase in the grocery store, the chips (fries) were cold. Â The Ice Tea was basically brown colored water without flavor.
Over all this was a gross meal. Â I had a difficult time paying GOOD money for such poor food. Â We were never asked is our meal was good.
We will never go back AGAIN. Â I hope that word will get out that this establishment has gone down hill.
Also, these photos are old. Â This place looks nothing like what is posted on here.
Cool coupon for yelping. A little place at the end of a main street in Tracy. Friendly staff and lots of tv's. Â Didn't expect much but the Cajun Cobb salad was the bomb. Â Extra added benefit is I can get there in 10 minutes from work. Â Will be coming back again to give other dishes a shot.
Review Source:My girls and I went here to check it out when we happened to be in Tracy for a house warming.... We needed some good food and a place to unwind and shake on the dance floor... Lol...
And the great plate nailed it! We had excellent food (try the bruschetta) and later that night we were able to enjoy dancing and drinks (Roxie and Bill were the absolute best)... Anyway... Whenever I'm in Tracy aka No Mans Land .. I know where I'll go to have a good time.
So first off let me start with saying I absolutly loved the atmosphere here but the employees are not friendly, some yeah but some not. I come here every so often an notice the female manager Alex is her name I believe sometimes smile or gives dirty looks not sure if its just me. Makes me feel uncomfortable. And then to see the cook always walking around thru the bar hanging out or talking to people makes me wonder if he ever washes his hands uhhh okay
On a positive note I love the pizza here deffinatly better than little ceasars the bell peppers and onions are always soggy. I know I'm not the only one who loves that crunch!
Not the spot to go and relax at night there seems to be "hoodlums" and pot smokers always hanging around and 2 out of the last 3 times I came here the was a fight or dispute of some sort in the parking lot, not very attractive. All in all they have a good / mediocre selection of wine.
Black bear diner is a great honey hole in this town hope this helps some of you make a choice of getting a nice meal or chance getting mugged on the way home

I have been going to the Greatr Plate off and on for the past several years and have to say this is the best I think it has been since I've been going there. The food and service really seems to have gotten better. I would recommend the Great Plate for lunch, dinner, or or fews cold beers!
Review Source:i am From modesto , was doing work in Tracy  a few weeks back,, this place is great food was fast good an delicious,, would recommend  this place to anyone i no,, never been to there club scene i am sure its off the hook though , the way i was treated for lunch dinner ,, i am a lil bit picky any was very happy with the owners an staff
Review Source:The Great Plate is our go to place on Saturdays for lunch. Â It's got a laid-back, funky atmosphere and friendly, attentive servers. Â The food is great for lunch, with lots of burgers, salads, sandwiches and pizzas to choose from. Â There is a full bar as well. Â If you're in downtown Tracy at lunch time, check it out.
Review Source:Got to say this could be a great place to visit. Played a poker tournament yesterday. After the tourney I ordered a hamburger with onion rings. $11 bucks for a burger??? Well I expected something pretty awesome for eleven bucks. There where five (5) onion rings. My buddy had the same burger with fries. His was just as disappointing. A very small portion of fries. The burger was just ok. Maybe a 5-6 dollar burger anywhere else. Than we get the bill. They charged a mandatory gratuity 17 percent. Almost five dollars more. I would have paid a few bucks for a tip but to have ordinary food at this price in an old bar in old Tracy ?? Never coming back.
Review Source:My wife Mandy and I just got back from our first visit to The Great Plate. We just moved to Tracy six months ago and wanted to try out a new place, and we are both very glad we made the decision to have dinner here! When our server Nikki introduced herself, she said she was still in training and introduced Heath, who in his words "will be awkwardly standing here right next to her". We couldn't help but laugh, and fortunately, both Nikki and Heath made us feel like we've been going there for ages & were old friends. They were personable and professional! When it came to the food, it wasn't a let-down either! We had minestrone and I'm sorry i didn't order a larger size! It even had bacon in it! Bacon fans: you can't really taste it, non-bacon fans: you can't really taste it. My wife couldn't decide between the JackDaniels chicken & shrimp or the shrimp alfredo dish, so she asked Nikki "what's your favorite thing to eat here?" To which she honestly responded that she had only been working there for four days, & tried a couple of things, but had heard a lot of people ordering J.D. stuff off the menu. My wife still couldn't decide so she asked Nikki what she would pick and she said "you know what alfredo tastes like girl! Try the JD chicken & shrimp"! She had made an excellent suggestion! My wife loved the batter on the shrimp, the flavor of the chicken, and as far as the sides go, she said "are these not the best mashed potatoes you have ever tasted?!" She had me try a little of her mashed potatoes and even though I'm super picky & don't care for garlic mashed potatoes, these were pretty tasty! It started to get a little busier during our dinner but both Heath and Nikki stayed attentive to our table and overall, they displayed some of the best service of any restaurant I've been to.
Thanks again to Nikki and Heath at The Great Plate in Tracy, CA, for our first visit, but definitely NOT our last!
So here is the story. Â Moved to Tracy about 2 years ago and started hitting the local scene. Â Went to this place and wasnt impressed so started frequenting the Helms House. Â Then they closed... Â sad day for all.
With no where else to go we start going to the plate. Â At that time the menu was not that great but they had a decent selection of beers and they were quick on the service. Â Good TV location and they showed most of the sports. Â Free wifi helps for sure.
Then the menu change and the remodel.  With the menu change the food got better and they seemed to have addressed most of  the negative things about the food.  Right when we started to consider this place in our rotation a horrible experiance.
As we all know I'm all about service. Â Everything is easy to look over when service takes over.
I won't bore you with my writing skills on the scenario but here is the just.
45 minute wait on the food.
Cold sides.
Undercooked chicken.
Excuses.
No management interaction.
No apology.
and so that leaves us looking for another spot.
I got the fish and chips here and they were on par with anywhere else I've ever had it. The atmosphere is definitely cool and the wall art is fun. It's too bad they closed the upstairs portion of the restaurant (or so I've heard). I'd go back since the food and service was ok, but there are a handful of places I'd rather go to instead.
Review Source:We don't live in Tracy anymore but attended a birthday party there in June. I have to say I felt really bad for not only the host of the party but the birthday girl herself. The party was hosted upstairs on a day that the temperature was high 90's and they didn't have the AC on. They were using a swamp cooler which should have been turned on long before the party began so that we weren't baking up there. It was so hot it made it very uncomfortable to even sit without feeling like you were out in the sun. The worst part was that people couldn't handle the heat and headed out early because they just couldn't take it.
The food was Ok, nothing to rave about.
I think this place would be remotely ok if they spent a little money to 1. Clean it and 2. make sure their electrical and ac worked correctly. Scares me to be in a building that has electrical cords hanging out the window!
Here is the dress code:
Guys, Pants only, no Shorts (even when its HOT), No T-Shirts, ONLY collared shirts.
Girls, Half naked no rules for women what so ever.
Food was good, when the kitchen closes there is a guy that makes tacos that are amazing. Â
Crowd was decent, Security is really strict so that keeps out the problem people.
Went in for lunch on Sunday. Â First thing I noticed was a banner 'under new management'. Â Sat outside and heard an adjacent table complaining to the server they didn't understand why no manager was on duty and why it was taking 40 minutes plus for a burger. Â No set-ups on the tables...we literally had to ask for everything. Â Sugar, salt and pepper, etc. Â Service was extremely slow and our server would disappear for 15 minutes and then re-appear very flustered. Â What we thought would be a 45 minute to an hour lunch turned into 2 plus hours. Â The only quick part of the experience was getting and paying our bill.
Food was decent and arrived hot. Â Getting refills on our iced tea was almost impossible. Â Several other patrons opted for 'self help' and went to the bar for their own drinks even though they had placed an order with their server.
I think the new management should rethink their involvement in the restaurant business. Â My advise to them is to GET OUT OF THE BUSINESS.
My husband & I are from the Bay & been in Tracy for almost a year. We have been to the Great Plate on a Saturday night and it was a cool club scene; a mixture of music, ages & races. It was really a nice spot to throw a party or if you want to dance!
We were looking for a spot to watch the Laker game yesterday & decided against all the chain restaurants and went to Great Plate on a fluke. Not only do they have lots of flat screens to cover any game or show you want to watch, the service and food was Awesome!
We sat at the bar & ordered the spinach & artichoke bread bowl & that was 100% better than any of the heat & serve that you can get at Applebee's, Chili's, red Lobster or Macaroni Grill. Also our meals were on point too. The bartender, servers and everyone was welcoming and friendly.
If you want to go to a good non chain place for food & drinks, I'd have to recommend here!
It's definitely a place "where everybody knows your name." we will be back
When last night for a friends party. The last time I went it was a little boring, but they have come up with the opening of upstairs. I love the fact that's there all kinds of ethnicity's. Music was great, Drinks were cheap, Loved the two big screen TVs. A lot if security for those immature older people which is good. I would def come back.
Review Source:I really like this place. The Plate has been around for a long time and I have always enjoyed the food and the friendly nature of the staff. The staff is always friendly and courteous, especially Melissa. She's probably the best server they have on staff.
Also, check their calendar of events because there are always DJs and sometimes live music upstairs, but during dinner hours, there is background music with videos on the smaller screens, with sports playing on the larger screens.
This restaurant is definitely worth a visit!!
I am updating another time to say the Beer is finally cold! Â Cold enough to enjoy, I could be extra snobby and say that it would be way better with iced glasses or even cold glasses, nothing makes a beer better than an ice cold glass!!
The food was fabulous as always!
So Cheers to Cold Beer and keeping it that way I hope!
This place has steadily gone downhill. Â We used to be GP regulars but stopped going when we felt the service was slipping. Â On a whim, we gave it another go . This review is based on my last three experiences at the Plate (over about two months). We found the service to be better on our weekend trip, both our dinner excursions had service that was somewhere between painful and neglectful. Â On our last trip the bartender must have been having a rough day because the drinks were awful (dirty martini does not mean I want olive juice with a splash of vodka). Â Our pizza came to us flooded with cheese and a crust that did not taste like it was done baking (gross). Â Whats weird is, we waiting quite a while for the pizza...and its not like the restaurant was slammed.
So, thats is GP, we are done. I like my drinks well made, my pizza fully cooked and my wait staff to occasionally swing by and see how we are doing. Â Apparently this means we are not a good fit.
I have eaten here 4 times and that is 4 times too many. Blech. The food is awful. I can't remember anything about the service because the last time I was there I was engaged with the appetizer sampler which consisted of dee-fried-and-yet-still-cold mozzarella sticks/onion rings/whatever the hell else was on the dish and, well, my mind was seriously blown by how bad the food was.
My bottom line: if the food is this bad, not other qualities can redeem a place.
On a lighter note, my wife refers to this place as "The Mediocre Plate."
My husband and I just moved to town, and we stumbled across this place. What a great find! Their food is really homemade! They make amazing pizza dough; their calzone is the BEST and the portions are gigantic :)
We have now had a few different sandwiches as well as the calzone and we couldn't be more pleased!
The waitresses are always super friendly and nice
I will go back and I highly recommend this place to everyone!
For a restaurant in downtown Tracy, it's pretty good for what they offer. I especially fancy their potato wedges. Tastes good and cooked to a crisp--just the way I like 'em. The Legendary wings are quite good too. The waitress, I think her name was Lisa, was particularly nice. Took her time to make sure we were in satisfaction at all times.
Oh yeah, their club upstairs is not that bad too on the weekends. Plenty of variety in drinks to choose from while you enjoy them as the DJ plays your favorite top 40.
I've got to agree with Sean S and Mike M.
Took my wife there she ordered the Lasagna it came with a Limp Brown Lettuce salad the Lasagna had one burnt noodle was not even a quality meal it came without bread. I had a Burger on a piece of Cheap soft white bun the kind you see at the .99 cent store very plane
Needless to say
I will never return
Yet again, I got my yelp taken off again. Â It's twice now. Â So you yelpers reading this, whatever I wrote was true and the owner didn't like it. Â So here I am, shooting for the third time!!!! Â Ha! Ha!!
Everything here sucks!!!! Â I agree with all the yelpers who gave this place a one star...2 is being too nice!!!
So much for THE GREAT PLATE, it is not!
This is a review of the nightclub.
This place sucked. I went last night and at first it seemed cool until the DJ table kept going out. And then the DJ kept playing a few songs over and over again. He would play some new stuff and then "sneak" back in a song he had already played.
We sat at a table and couldn't get a waitress to stop and take our order for awhile. Finally one stopped and only took my friend's order. She acted just like she didn't see me. When she was waiting at the bar I tried to get her attention and she just smiled at me like I was hitting on her or something.
Finally my other friends came back and got her to come back. And guess what, she did it again. Took their order, didn't even look at me and turned around and took off.
This place will never get my money. I'm glad that I didn't pay to get in.
We came here to try something new in town. Â We were really hungry and decided to check it out.
My hubby had a burger and I had the Tri-tip dip sandwich. Â The portions are good, and the food was not bad. Â This place really isn't special and nothing stands out to me that would make me want to come back again.
We were here on a Friday for lunch and there were about 10 other people here, most of which were at the bar.
Would we come again? Â Maybe if we wanted to on a whim, but not for a long time. There are other places in the area that are better.
FOOD: I have been here a couple of times to eat, and must say the food has always been good. The staff is super nice. I heard it gets crowded but each time we went we were seated right away.
Nightlife: Now people, It is TRACY. What do you think the BAR is going to be like. I went there  last Saturday night with my hubby and his friends. So, I dressed in my normal fitter of tank-top, flip-flops really nothing Fancy. However, I did noticed that the rest of the women who rolled in there were dressed very cute, like for a night out on the town. Unfortunately the Town happens to be Tracy. I guess if you were single this place would really suck, but I'm not. So it works out fine for me to get a couple of local drinks in me. Music selection was Okay. There is dancing.
A lot of people have mixed feelings about this place. From past reviews I've been kinda worried about coming here. But me and my boyfriend came here a few days ago, and I was really impressed!
We walked in the first half was the bar area with tvs and a video game machine. The other half of the place had tables with white tablecloths and was more the actual restaurant. Variety, I like that. At night I believe they move the tables and you can have fun on the dance floor.
My bf ordered this tri-tip sandwhich. I tried a piece of meat, and wow. Tender, juicy, delicious. I ordered the stuffed chicken with brie. It was chicken breast stuffed with mushrooms, with melted brie on the top, covered with a white sauce and cranberries. Garlic mashed potatoes and mixed veggies were my sides.
Considering we were sitting on the bar side of the place, this food felt like it came from a 4 star restaurant! I was totally surprised and shocked at how good our meal was. You really can't judge a book by it's cover at this place, I was so impressed. Also, my meal looked heavy and I had a bunch of food, but I left feeling not overly stuffed at all, very light, which is perfect if you wanted to add dessert.
I'm definitely coming back. =)
Where do I start?
The only thing saving this place from a single star rating is (a) it has no real competition and thus one is sometimes obliged to go here (like, say, a friend's birthday or promotion or something), (b) the food is alright enough, and (c) the bar staff is very nice.
Otherwise, I am in full agreement with Sean S. Â His review was spot-on and I don't think I should re-invent the wheel, so I'll stop right here.
I could tell you some real stories, however, about the dis-regard the management/owner has for it's patrons, however. Â That in itself has kept me away from the place for the past several years.
let's settle on 1-1/2 stars.
Why drive all the way to Fremont when you can get all the trashy everything right here at home? This is where the commute-crazed East Bay exiles get their freak on and try to forget about that sub-prime-bought tract house that's sunk them six feet deep in debt and the gangfight their kid got in at West High.
So if 40-year old I.T. workers in Hawaiian shirts are your thang: hey hey, Great Plate!
Though there are some hot panthers to be found. Dice.
I took a three day weekend to celebrate my birthday. Â It's officially on the 20th, but I wanted to really milk it for all it's worth being the attention whore that I am.
Friday morning, I woke up hoping to start it off with something fun, but my day soon went to hell. Â (ahem...must be the attention whore karma) For several hours I was in a financial crunch pissed off funk. Â Then my wonderful husband made me the best filet mignon-with-baked-potatoes-corn-and-salad-with-a -fatty-slice-of-fudge-cake-dinner I've ever had. Â That man rocks! Â He turned my mood around and we decided to get our dance on!
So, I decided to bookend my birthday with partying on Friday night, and again on Saturday night.
I didn't want to go too far, because Saturday we were going to the city.
What to do???
It turns out there's a great little place here!
The food is great, there's a pretty good variety, and the service is always good. Â It's not too expensive, either, and the atmosphere is always very warm and friendly.
But on Friday nights, there's DJ Mo. Â He spun some of the best mixes I've heard ANYWHERE...why he's doing it in Tracy is beyond me...but every other venue's loss is my party gain! Â Despite his mad skillz, the dancing didn't really pick up until 12:00. Â Not sure why.
I had four cosmos and at midnight when my birthday officially started, 2 Grey Goose shots with lemon.
Sure, I was dressed a bit over the top with my flashy shoes and my blingy BITCH necklace, but FUCK IT...it's my birthday. Â
It was 4 other people's birthday too...I LOVE CELEBRATING WITH OTHER PEOPLE!!!
The Tracy GREAT PLACE more like it. Â (corny i know.) Â
I came here a night after my 21st birthday and the staff treated me AWESOME! Â I definitely felt welcome and the crowd was awesome. Â The whole night went great after 5 different shots and 3 large beers. Â I would go there again seeing as there staff is so great.
