One of the great bars I have ever been to. I live four hours away and have seriously contemplated driving there JUST for the nachos.
Don't worry about the comments about it being gross. Has been remodeled and is perfectly nice and clean.
You can sit outside, but it's Walla Walla so it will probably be 200 degrees outside until the sun goes down!
The Green Lantern, or just 'The Green' as most know it, is an awesome bar by anyone's standards. Riding the fence somewhere between a dive bar and a sports bar the green has a great selection of beer that they rotate out on a very regular basis. The bar tenders are proficient and more than happy to guide drink selections. The interior space is broken into two levels separating the bar from the lower pool area, where one can grab a table or combine tables; this is rad for big groups. Outdoor seating is also available. The scene is a mixed group of the local regulars and Whitties, who tend to play nice together. I'd say the food at the green is really what bumps this up to a 5 star for me. Nearly everything on the menu is done very well, and the menu itself spans from classic bar food to an involved burger and sandwich selection. I've always got a kick out of the bouncers who appear at the doors on Friday and Saturday night. They've always been respectful and outgoing towards me, something you don't always get. I wish the green had an ATM for cab trips, but one can be found down Isaacs at the Chevron. They've also got a Juke Box. The green is great, go there.
Review Source:The bread for their sandwiches is top notch. Deep fried pickles and mushrooms are from scratch. The pickles make my mouth water just writing this. The staff was spot on from the door greeting to the manager checking in on us to make sure everything was going well. We picked the GL our first night in Walla Walla because they were open late. We picked it the second night because it was that good.
Review Source:I don't give many taverns more than 3 stars...but "the green" has it all going for them. Â The food is just about as good as it gets for burgers, fish tacos, salads and pizza. Â Beer selection is good too. Â Waitstaff is friendly and attentive. Â If you are in WW and want a good meal at a very reasonable price with lots of big screen TV's and an all age customer base, then the Green is it. Â No kids
Try the Deep Fried Pickles too....tell them Racer X sent you
I kinda heart this place. I haven't been for the nightlife, just a weeknight burger and beer. Good friendly service. Casual atmosphere. Â Their burgers are SO yummy! They use local beef from Thundering Hooves. And they are HUGE. For you VegHeads, they have black bean burgers too! Â Ask for a side of ranch and a pickle to go with your mountain of house made fries. It's the cherry on top. Ping pong outside is fun and watching the random drunk girl inside act foolish is even funner. As a weeknight dinner spot, it's worth a go!
Review Source:Rowdy-ish, loud, and mediocre food for a pub that claims to have a good kitchen.
Not that this is bad, but isn't beer pong a little past its prime now? The fire pit/patio would be great otherwise!
Went recently with a large group, so got to sample many food items. The little carnitas street tacos were by far the best item. Good beers on tap, but way too many groups of four or five screechy undergrad women interacting with trying-desperately-to-look-adult boys in pairs. And this was a regular weekday night... Afternoon might be better.
(And don't ignore this review because it sounds like it was written by a prissy old stick-in-the-mud. I love dive bars!)
The reason to come here - BURGERS. The kind you take one bite of and think you've died and gone to heaven.
The anatomy of a Green Lantern bacon cheeseburger: grass-fed beef from Thundering Hooves; plenty of bacon and cheddar cheese; a bun that doesn't get soggy; some kind of tangy sauce that was lip smacking good; crisp lettuce, fresh tomato and onion. And oh yeah, did I mention the fries are amazing too?
Honestly this is one of the top 5 burgers I've had in my 37 years. And the service was great too. We will definitely be back.
Not until this bar steps up to protect its patrons! A friend I have known since high school (at Wa-Hi), just posted this on facebook, I presume related to the recent all 80's reuinon:
" I Got Assaulted in the bathroom at the GREEN LANTERN on Fri August 6th and ended up with a broken rib or possably bruised liver and it was my 40th birthday that day! I am trying to find the guy who did it and press charges. the manager Paul handled it sooooo poorly he was degrading and in my face never bothered to ask what happened and wouldnt listen... to me"
This is appalling! I plan to visit Walla Walla soon, and this venue will NOT be on my to do list now!
Certainly the best bar in Walla Walla. Nothing else comes close, really. The previous reviewer was correct when he stated that you have to go to Seattle or Portland to find a bar that is equally good.
Over the years, I have watched this place go through four remodels and it somehow manages to get better every time. Fortunately, they have preserved the extensive old wood paneling, which gives the interior a suitable dive bar atmosphere. (Although I do miss the old men's room which contained some of the best carved graffitti I have ever seen).
They have a large beer selection (about 20 taps) consisting mostly of Northwest microbrews. In recent years they have improved the menu enough  that I can now recommend the food. The fries, in particular are especially good.
Like the Ice-Burg, and Tommy's Dutch Lunch: a treasured  Walla Walla Institution.
If you like wine (and I do), Walla Walla is a great place. If you have a beer budget, it can be kind of tough to find a good drinking spot. When I was coming home on breaks from school, The Green was at the top of a very short list of places to go. Who doesn't love sitting outside on a hot summer night and sharing a pitcher of beer? The last time I was there was in 2005, for my best friend's bachelorette/naughty nightie party. Best part? The old drunk guy lecherously watching her open all her kinky gifts. Good times.
Review Source:One of the only real bar bars in town. If you know what I mean by "bar bar", then you should check this place out. If you live in Walla2, you've already been here, many times. If you're visiting and you want to mingle with the locals, stop on in. But behave, this isn't Seattle or Portland. We will take you out back and kick your ass if we don't like you. Just kidding. No, not really. Be nice.
Amazing beer selection and the staff can steer you toward something you'll enjoy. Good munchie bar food. Try the pickle taco:  it  rocks! Love the staff. If it's busy, you may have to wait. Be patient. They'll pour you a killer drink.
Pool tables and ping pong. Big old school bouncers. Bad ass bartenders. What more do you want?
HINT: Avoid Friday and Saturday late late nights: it can get frat-boyish.
I love this bar. Â I'm glad they added liquor, but I'm sad that they never put the "Bitch Better Have My Money" Burger on the menu. Â So sad. Â The bathrooms are so gross, but I hear a remodel is happening. Â Hopefully they'll save the Boognish on the wall and install a private stall or locking door so you can actually take a dook without having to show the bar your privates.
Back in the day they used to have horse shoes out back. Â What could be more dangerous than throwing horse shoes at a bar? Â I can only think of one thing: shooting skeet at a bar. Â My heart belongs to the Green Lantern.
Best dollar pitcher night. Best horseshoes. Best bartenders. Filthiest bathroom wall writing. Best jukebox. Everyone thought I came to Walla Walla for my Whitman College reunion, but really it was to drink straight from the pitcher at The Green and catch up on the STD report in the bathroom.
