Loved this place 19 years ago and still loved it when we came by on vacation this week...perfectly small, everyone knows who everyone is... Just the kind of place we enjoy. Pete is kinda adorable.. Love the banter of the staff and patrons...it's got great eats.. and the best sized beer you could ask for! It's a must do..
Review Source:There's really not much open for lunch in Ketchum and it wouldn't matter. Â Grumpy's is the only place for lunch! Â A Fowl Burger and a schooner and you're good to go! Â Pete is the best, expect some humor and maybe a joke or two at your expense.
Make sure you order at the right place at the bar, they won't come to you! Â And they're not going to bring it to you either. Â The place is fantastic. Â Super small, for the most part, everyone knows everyone. Â Just a great place to get a burger and a beer. Â Menu is small, which is perfect. Â Means you're going to get your food quickly. Â
Did I mention Pete is the best!?!?! Â I might have a little crush......
If you're looking for full service, this is not the place for you.
Can't wait to come back!
A Ketchum classic that is a must stop every time we come to town. Â It's a timeless, funky, kind of dusty, beer and burgers place so set your expectations. Â But the foulburger is pretty good and they serve about a half gallon of beer in these heavy schooners....be sure to designate a driver!
Review Source:Magical might be a stretch but who cares this is yelp! Â I do not even know if folks read my reviews ;) Â
All kidding aside this place is a local burger/grill joint with a great little patio to have beers and greasy food. The folks behind the bar/grill are only looking to make one thing happen and that is to have you enjoy yourself but stay out of their way.
I am planning on heading back to Ketchum every summer with the family and this place is going to be on our go to list for every trip.
Keep in mind I wasn't drinking a large chalice of beer (which is the obvious highlight of this venerable establishment) but we found Grumpy's entirely mediocre. The burgers were too done, almost carboney, and not inexpensive. The fries were skinny and unremarkable. The best part about the place was the incredible beer can collection on the walls inside. The wait staff was friendly but the outdoor plastic table was dirty and sticky and had no napkins in the holder.

This is as funky and old school as a tavern can get. Â They have giant schooner beer mugs and lots on tap. Â The locals love it here, as do the visitors after a long day on the slopes. Â It is tucked back so it's a bit tricky to find. Â I hear Bruce Springstein is a real fan of Grumpy's when he's in town!
Review Source:They were so rude, I couldn't believe it. It took two people to read our ID's and I was treated like an outsider right off the bat. I was 22 and my boyfriend was 28, but they looked at us like we were trying to pull a fast one on them. Unwelcoming! We're both from from Idaho and my boyfriend had told me so much about the place, I was so excited. It ended up being a huge let down.
You ruined my day in Sun Valley. Thanks for nothing.
Smoke free. Â Fantastic burgers and fries...can't beat the 32 oz chalice shaped beers for $5-6. Â Staff isn't 'Grumpy' but very friendly so long as you don't act like you came in on your jet that afternoon. Â For newbies, the menu is on the same wall you came in through. Â So just turn over your shoulder casually and identify your pick.
For non-food fun they have a pool table, buck hunter video game, and juke box. Â Not a lot of standing/sitting room but if you're lucky to find an open booth snag it quick. Â
Definitely recommended.
Yay for $4 32.oz beers! Â I have been going to Ketchum/Sun Valley every year of my life for 25 years and just discovered this place. Â Great place for a drink, they have a big patio which is nice in the summer. Â We didn't have dinner there but got some snacks off of the appetizer menu. Â The wings were nothing special, not saucy enough for me, but the fries were delicious. Â Actually the fries weren't that amazing but they were served with a whole bottle of fry sauce and fry sauce will win me over any time. Â Oh how I miss Idaho and it's obsession with fry sauce. Â Anyway, go to grumpy's, it's good times.
Review Source:I grew up on this schnazz, and boy oh boy do I miss it! The burgers are awesome obviously, and the fowl burgers are soooooo good it hurts! Fries are stellar, and there is nothing that feels like home like sitting outside of Grumpy's with a schooner and a burger.... none of us are sorry you're open baby!
Review Source:This is the spot in Sun Valley, but it takes some knowing to find it. After Louie's Pizza, my absolute favorite place.
A small log cabin converted into a bar.
Beer can collection from around the world diplayed on the walls ...for decoration and insulation.
32 oz. Schooners of beer  ( 3 - 4 bucks )
Grumpy burgers ........
If you love burgers this is the place for you.
Great skiing, great bar, great people  ... .what more can you ask for..
.......
another schooner please.
Grumpy's is a must hit on any of my summer or winter visits. Â I've literally been going there since I was a kid and the best part is how little is has changed. Â With rustic charm, classic decor, pool tables, an outstanding grill and gargantuan draft beer, you will definitely enjoy this "quaint" spot. Â It's worth the wait even when it is shoulder to shoulder. Â I highly recommend their chicken sandwich a.k.a. fowl burger! Â Delilsh.
Review Source:Worth a vist for the decor alone.....A historical collection of beer cans cover the walls, Â interspersed with some very humorous license plates and smart ass signs. Â Funny that they have to close early because of the neighborhood---it is located in a light industrial area next to a laundry and across from a pet grooming salon.....
The surly shtick the bartenders (who also take the food orders since there is no wait staff) toss around is freindly enough. Â The burgers, which are the best sellers, Â are pre packaged patties and come in 2 sizes. Â Not gourmet, but tasty when served with fresh, Â thin hot fries, Â along with schooners of the local beers, whicha re great ansd a steal at 3.75.
The buffalo wings were very decent also. Â Not terribly meaty, but tasty.
I took my wife and  2 sons aged 12 and 14  there.....The kids loved it...the wife liked the atmosphere but  was chagrinned to find that  the word "salad"  was defined as the lettuce and tomato garnish that came on the burgers.
One other positive...the TUNES.  While I was there I heard a very eclectic collection of rock tunes played LOUD,  seventies  style.  Joe Cocker to Seger to Zappa to  Zep.
So a 5 rating for the beer and 3 for the food.
It is a  great place to go to get away from the SV crowd.
Dress code......Covered body parts. (for men that is)
Oh yeah ....they don't have a phone, so no rezzies
It doesn't say "Friendly's" on the sign for a reason. Yet like the gluttons for punishment we are, this is a wildly popular place.
It's perfect for apres ski. It's perfect for pre-ski, too, if you don't need to hit the slopes early. It's perfect for after work. It's a perfect pre-cursor to a night out on the town (they close early due to neighborhood noise ordinances). It's perfect to grab lunch, dinner, just beer, just a burger. Whatever you like - well as long as its on the menu, that is. And the menu, by the way, is located on a big green board on the west facing wall. Walk in the front door and turn around. If the tourists could figure this out, the staff might not be as grumpy ... but then again, it wouldn't be Grumpy's without hearing the bartenders dish out insults to the tourists and locals alike. Oh, and the east end of the bar belongs to the locals. Don't even try it if you were flown here and not grown here.
The burgers are great. If you don't have powers of deduction the "fowl burger" is a teriyaki chicken breast. They do have veggie burgers, corndogs, and the typical bar fare. Beer is served in a 32 oz schooner for just $4.75 for the good stuff; $3.50 for the crap (aka domestic).
