This place is the best! Food is excellent not too greasy or salty, perfectly seasoned. By far one of my favorite mexican restaurants. The lady who served me was so so sweet, she was all alone, and got everything done so fast. Although the place is old everything is clean and the food is just so good. They have AMAZING breakfast!

My sister and I went here today for the first time.  Although the lady that waited on us was sweet as can be, she was also slow as can be!  My sister ordered the beef tacos with rice and beans and I ordered the cheese enchiladas with rice and beans.  My sister showed me her fingers after picking up one of the tacos....GREASY!!!  And she said the meat was dry and had no flavor.  One of the tacos didn't even look like beef!  My enchiladas had an odd colored sauce on them and were loaded with onions.  They were greasy as well and not just from the cheese.  The beans tasted like they came right out of a can and the rice was such a glowing orange, it looked like something from space.  First time and the last time I go to this restaurant.  My stomach hurts from too many onions and way too much grease!  BAD BAD BAD!!!

One more note....the lady who must be the owner, the older woman did something that to me was appalling!  We watched her clear off two tables and both times, she took the unused salsa to the counter and simply added more salsa to the cup and then brought that SAME EXACT CUP to the next table!!!  REALLY?  I don't know if the person before me eating that salsa was sick, a double dipper, or put their fingers in the salsa.....TOTALLY DISGUSTING!!!!!

I've been coming here for years. This is my favorite Guadalupe restaurant to bring out of town guests. I love the cheese enchiladas and rice.

I think almost everything I ordered here came out of a can or was pre made.=( Tex-mex at its cheapest. My Chile relleno was nothing more than canned Ortega chillies battered & fried w/ this Chile Verde type sauce, which was red so it was weird . & it was just smothered all over EVERYTHING!  Including my enchiladas! Which correct me if I'm wrong should have enchilada sauce right? Chicken in the enchiladas was bland & flavorless. Beans tasted exactly like the rosarita canned refried beans & I don't even remember the rice so it must not have been that good. Price tag was inflated adding insult to injury ..try el tapatio or nardos down the street for some homemade Mexican food.

I've lived in Southern California my entire life, dined at many Mexican restaurants and this is among the worst.  Sorry.  To be honest I only ate there once and will never go back.  For starters, the salsa must be straight from the can.  No imagination there.  My wife ordered the combo plate with a chile relleno, chicken taco and cheese enchilada.  The relleno must have been made with a chile from the can, flat and extremely ordinary.  I've seen buttermilk pancakes thicker than the enchilada.  It was dense.  The chicken taco consisted of bland chicken meat, lettuce and some white cheese.  No cilantro in sight. I ordered the picado, small chunks of beef in a tomato, onion and chile sauce.  It was very flavorful but the beef, although very lean, was slightly chewy.  A better grade of meat or some braising would help.  I did not appear they used many fresh ingredients.  If you like your Mexican food fresh from the can, this is your spot.

Cheese Enchilada had a delicious sauce poured over it..really tasty.
Beef Tacos were nice n crispy..I think they deep fry 'em. Shredded beef tasted good, but a bit dry.
Salsa was delicious! Good flavor and had a nice spice!
    Rice was pretty bland.
Pork had complex, spicy flavor.bf loved it
Tamale was VERY tender and had the enchilada sauce poured all over it.YUM.
    Overall Enjoyed this place.

I just finished eating breakfast at Nardo's and ended up eating lunch with the Masatani's at their favorite restaurant... actually it was just a store front away from their store, Masatani.
Harry insisted I try their bacon, which is deep fried and done just right... how could I argue with that?  Harry proudly added that he gets the bacon for them at a special place... so I got the huevos rancheros with a side of Guadalupe's famous deep fried bacon, while Harry got his usual two taco's and Kim got her usual coffee... you see, she eats at 11 everday and Harry eats around 12 everyday... when your married over 50 years you can do that!  Harry brought a book with old pictures of Guadalupe until the owner brought my food... OMG!  The bacon was truly to die for... thick sliced crunchy on the outside, and tender in the inside... with not trace of fat... now that's a perfect fry.  The ranchero sauce was thick and mild... and the easy over egg was smothered in cheese and a green chile along with totilla chips underneath... like chilaquiles on steroids!
Needless to say this was a home run out of the park good... so now you have Nardo's, Guadalupe Restaurant, and the Tavern Inn... oh.. don't forget to stop at La Tapatia Bakery off of Main St. in Santa Maria before you come or go to Guadalupe, very good fresh baked goods for pennies!

I... LOVE... THIS... PLACE!!!  Their food is delicious, fresh (for the most part), and authentic.  It is a family owned establishment and the mom is generally the cook.  I have seen the son working a few times, and the father usually working on something at the lunch bar.  This is definetly a dive place, after lunch about 6 older gentleman are the only people in the place talking about local gossip and whatnot.  This totally reminded me of what my dad and his buddies used to do after work at the local watering hole.  I come through this area about once a month and make it a point to stop by each time.  Once you've been served, they can be a bit slow to get your check and send you out the door - especially if the group is there and they're all talking.

Good, solid Tex-Mex cuisine; kinda salty, not-too-spicy comfort food that may or may not be cooked in good old fashioned lard. ( I was afraid to ask.) A little Tapatio sauce seasoned it perfectly.
The service and decor were from another decade, complete with red leather booths, wood paneling , statues of the Virgen de Guadalupe,, a collection of about 200 elephant figurines,  lots of chatty regulars who all know each other,  and the very friendly owner- waitress who's been working there for 40 years.  Yes, that is her picture over the cash register ("At age 17 and never been kissed," she said.)
I liked the chili rellenos, but I deducted 1 star because the portions were too small. Also , my friend complained that the meat in the caldo de res was so tough that it was inedible.

Ordered a massive serving of nachos and it was delicious! Nothing like nachos from an ayso game, it has actual toppings. Feeds a lot of hungry kids and adults.

This is the best Mexican Food Restaurant EVER!  Anytime I go to any other place for Mexican Food, its never as good as this place.  I am almost 40 years old and have been coming to this place since I was a baby....its a family tradition.  My favorite is Cheese and Onion Enchiladas with the White Mexican Cheese. Rice, Beans and all the sauces are homemade.  Ofelia and her family do a great job!  Highly recommend this place!
