Sandhill Cafe:  50 Shades of Green:  Cajun Shrimp Salad.  The downside is that the shrimp are neither chilled nor fresh and hot.  They are barely warm above room temperature... the good thing is that the waitress informed us before hand.  A really great salad... I almost licked the bowl.

We have eaten here a lot... and the Cajun Shrimp Salad and the Steak Wrap are some of my favorites.  We've also had the steaks which are really well done!  However, beware of Monday and Wednesdays when the wait can be several hours long.

As far as the casino:  Just be quiet and listen...
If people are winning, you can win!  If no body is winning, best to come back and try another night... when this casino goes cold, the entire building goes cold!

It's a casino. I mainly go to eat. The restaurant is well staffed and clean I have been a couple times now and the food is always on point. Prices are fair and portions are large. They are open 24 hours so when you need something to eat at one in the morning and for some reason you are in the Wayland are check it out.

Finally got a chance to visit Gun Lake Casino in Sept 2012... And I enjoyed it!  I am a regular casino patron here in Michigan, Iowa and Las Vegas and know what I want out of a casino... Gun Lake did not disappoint.  I will say it may not be extraordinary, but I had a good all around time. I did not play table games on this trip, just slots. The place was fairly busy for a Tuesday eve but not crowded. The smoke level was not that bad in my opinion. They have 1400 slots all laid out in one big open area with table games in the center and food venders on the perimeter. I enjoyed a good New York style slice of Cheese pizza from the pizza place..price was cheap. They have free soda and coffee self serve in the casino area. The slot selection is up to date with a good variety, old standbys and hot new releases both. Slots I found to be pretty loose in comparison to Las Vegas. Beverage service was frequent and very nice servers..also cleaning attendants and slot techs were active and keeping up with everything. Bathrooms were fairly well kept. There is a bar with live music which was fun. Later in the eve I wanted a proper sit down meal and went to Sandhill Cafe... It was nice but not extraordinary. Servers and hosts all seemed very young (College?) but very polite and did their jobs fine. Food was decent, I had shrimp cocktail and the Sandhill Burger...came with tater tots, a cute touch. There were many other interesting items on the menu I look forward to trying another day. Overall- a good little casino, nice mix of patrons, well managed staff... I enjoyed it!

Very clean friendly atmosphere. I did pretty good on the slots and there is a great variety of new games. Enjoyable day.

Since the casino recently started allowing families to dine in the Sandhill Cafe, we decided to take everyone on up there and have dinner last night. We were worried we might be the only table with kids, but there were a couple others, so we didn't feel so odd man out.

The kids menu is short and certainly gets the job done. First time I've been back since the new menu for adults was launched and I was happy with the selection and prices. The prices went down and the portion size was not dramatically reduced, so I do feel like I'm getting a meal at the right price point.

Service, excellent as always. No complaints at all.
Price, good value for the money
Atmosphere, nice and clean. Love that the cafe is non-smoking in an otherwise smoke filled building.

Food, good variety and the wait for our meal was reasonable. That being said, 4 of the people at our table had fries and while they were warm, they weren't that hot out of the fryer taste that is just awesome. You know, the one that makes you open up the bag in the drive thru to sneak a few while they are hot and crispy. I am trying to eat a bit healthier, but something about hot fries just draws me right in, and I had no problems passing on my curly fries last night.

Typical Michigan Casino, nothing special. Newer.

    Summary: very small
    Recommendation: try a different casino

I went to this casino with high hopes but was sorely disappointed. It's very, very small. If you're a table games kind of person (as I am), you'll have difficulty finding a seat in the evenings and on weekends. If you're trying to sit at a table with friends, forget it.

I was surprised that the casino was so new but the tables looked fairly worn. On the blackjack table, the middle arc where the cards sit looked as though it had suffered years of wear--it was all faded.

It's nice that they have a food court, but vegetarians beware: the cafe offers few meatless options.

This casino would probably be fine if you just want to play slots or if you were going on off hours. And like any casino, the people watching's pretty amazing.

I had the opportunity to check out this casino this weekend. It did not disappoint one bit! New and clean, great customer service!

Plenty of table games to choose from along with plenty of slots. Great food and beverage options including a wonderful restaurant!

Everyone working here was extremely helpful and friendly.

Here's a huge win right now... $2 Drafts everyday from 11AM to 7PM!! Can't beat that.

Check out this casino, you won't be disappointed!

The self-serve beverage bar is key.

Free, decent coffee (including decaf) with real half-and-half. Free pepsi products. Located in a few self-serve areas. That way I can sip on free drinks all day, watch other people gamble, and not lose money!

It's a brand-new casino so the dingyness of cigarette smoke and broken dreams hasn't quite sunk in yet. The people are also above average for casino-fugliness.

We went to the Sandhill Cafe restaurant and I tried the Gun Lake burger. It's a burger with lettuce, tomato and pickle, fries on the side. Could have been worse. But they did have a nice little selection of local beers (Bell's and Founders).

With the new member promotion, they give you $5 in free play (or possibly more, but that's unlikely). I left up $0.63 for the day. Yes, I am a high roller.
