Fantastic lunch. We had mixed veggie grilled plate, pulled pork plate, and cold cafe con leche. Everything was perfect! We drove down from Marco Island 45 minutes just to have lunch here. Walked a marsh trail on rt 41 saw beautiful birds and a ginormous alligator. Best lunch we've had in ages, the food and outdoor seating is worth the drive. Carlos is an awesome cook and our waitress was great. After lunch a couple locals chatted us up and told us some great island stories. Will return for sure.
Review Source:This place is amazing. Â We stopped in for Colada (Cuban Coffee) -- similar to espresso before our Boat + Kayak tour with Everglades Area Tours. Â We didn't have time for breakfast, so couldn't wait to come back for lunch after the tour. Â When we arrived for lunch, we started with the lobster bisque -- delicioso!!! Â Â Then we had the blackened mahi mahi -- cooked perfectly, so much better than all the over-breaded fish we had at the seafood festival :-) Â It came with black beans and rice -- the rice was good and the black beans were a delight. Â Unfortunately, we arrived right before a motorcycle group showed up, so it was very busy, but, luckily, we found a spot to sit and were still happy with the service. Â My wife ordered the pork, omg -- the meat was super-tender and amazingly flavorful.
Review Source:We had lunch and came back for breakfast because it was so good. Â I had the Havana omelet (mashed slow cooked black beans, sauteed onions, jalapeno peppers, small chunks of serrano ham and swiss cheese). Â It was so good I went inside to ask the cook her secret--Complete seasoning used in many other dishes as well. Â My husband's Cuban cut steak and eggs came with crispy homemade potato thins and was also excellent. Â Waitress friendly and quick and gave me the recipe for the barbecue pork but I won't tell you; you have to go see for yourself. Â This was one of the best meals we had anywhere in Florida.
Review Source:We stopped here after an air boat ride at Wooten's by suggestion of the staff at Woooten's. Â a nice small location in a little town. Â We ordered Cubans (the bread they are on is to die for), cheeseburgers, fried shrimp basket and a chicken dish. Â All of he meals were great. Â We ha a very friendly waitress who enjoyed her job.
Review Source:If you like that laid back atmosphere and great food then this is the place for you. The Cuban sandwich was loaded with moist pork and ham. My only criticism is I felt the bread could have been better. My girlfriend had steak and eggs with home fries. Steak was a nice thin tender steak that tasted like it was marinated in mojo and sautéed with onions. Home fries were sliced thin and fried with onions and spices. Fantastic. Top this off with an extremely efficient and friendly staff and you've got a true Florida gem. I will stop there again.
Review Source:Stopped in this local favorite, after a full day of fishing. It was pouring rain outside, so the 5 or so inside tables were packed full of patrons, which landed us at the bar...vs. still outside to enjoy the beautiful FL sun. Our waiter was great and helpful, even though other staff were a little obnoxious. I ordered the soup of the day, which was a flavorful seafood bisque, as well as the fish plate of the day - the food was perfect temp and good enough. All of the food seems really fresh and healthy enough. The key lime pie was not the best I've had...the prices were average for FL, but a meal for two, in this hole in the wall was not quite $80. I recommend if you are wanting to stay local...as it's the only place in town :)
Review Source:I had the great fortune to visit this place 2 times on a trip to the Everglades. Â The sign on the front says "Havana Cafe" Â so I don't know why this site says Habana Cafe. Â I heard it was a great place to go for breakfast and lunch. Â The waitresses were cool and friendly and full of humor and provided great service. Â The lighting (I'm into photography) was great for enjoying the food and art and atmosphere (which was great) and the customers were an interesting mix of locals and tourists. Â As soon as I walked in - I knew it was going to be great - the art and the aroma both struck me. Â I love the Huevos Rancheros and I had a fantastic Cuban Sandwich on the second visit. Â Monica had the eggs with home made sausage on the first visit and it was delicious! Â On the secong visit - a Cuban Breakfast sandwich - awesome!! Â We had the Cafe Con Leche and it was wonderfull!
I love this place and can't wait to go there again. Â I wish it was in my neighborhood. (I've added photos of my food.)
It seems that restaurants are few and far between in this area. This is a nice restaurant with super friendly wait staff. Â Since the next restaurant was up in Everglades City, it was super packed. There's some nice little kiosks in front where you can buy jewelry and handmade baskets as a little reminder of your visit to Chokoloskee.
I ordered the mahi, which was fresh and nicely done. My husband had the cuban sandwich which he said was average. Â The chips and salsa on the other hand seemed to be grocery store bought...
Anyways, the price isn't too bad and it's the closest thing around...
We stopped in this place for lunch after taking a boat tour at Everglades National Park on the Gulf Coast just a few miles away. Â We had seen it online when planning our trip, and then the boat captain recommended it too. Â It was a great find! Â I was a little nervous because the menu on their website at http://myhavanacafe.com/ didn't have a lot of choices, but their menu was actually much bigger. Â My husband had the shrimp special of the day, and I had the vegetarian platter. Â Both were delicious. Â The vegetables were nicely spiced and very flavorful. Â The platter came with black beans and rice. Â The beans had a nice, rich flavor. Â
The weather was nice the day we were there, so we sat out on the patio, which was nicely landscaped and cozy. Â The staff/owners were friendly and helpful. Â The one waitress was a little rushed because a few other tables came in right around the same time as us. Â The food still came out fairly quickly, but my husband never got the cream for his coffee he asked for as the waitress streaked by. Â But that's really the only complaint. Â Overall, we were very pleased.
Without a doubt - the very best seasoned, steamed, peel N' eat shrimp I've ever had. After steaming, the shrimp was tossed in a bowl "Cuban" style with olive oil, garlic and an original "Old Bay" style seasoning. A full pound of very large, very fresh Gulf shrimp at a bargain price of $11.95! We also had a blackened Mahi with rice and black beans which too was excellent.
Only negative was it took about 30 minutes to get our order - but well worth the wait. When we mentioned the time it took they said next time let them know if you need to get sooner as everything is prepared to order.
An absolute find at the gateway to the Everglades. ENJOY!
Loved the atmosphere. Came by late one night on our way home from the Keys and everything was closed up. Spent Saturday afternoon here eating delicious white bean soup, sipping amazing coffee and listening to the blues musician on the patio. The music was good, staff was personable and the prices were reasonable. Had a lovely time here.
Review Source:The Cuban sandwich is the way to go here. Â The egg sandwich was tasteless - too much bland bread taste, not enough egg and spice. Â Maybe it was just a good day, but the espresso is one of the best I've ever had, and this is coming from a guy who drank it everyday for over 9 months in Italy. Â Nice outdoor area to the side with unique tile-decorated tables.
Review Source:Yummy! Who knew that there could be such good food in the middle of nowhere.
The staff is friendly and casual. It seems like this place is family owned with tons of regulars.
The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating. As it was chilly, we choose to ate in door.
The waiter told us that 1/2 the menu wasn't available and gave us two other options, which we ordered. However, we overheard another waitress list the alternatives and it was 4x times longer! She listed seafood pasta, all you can eat stone crab, grilled mahi-mahi, grilled, ahi tuna, grilled chicken...
In any case, we were still happy with what we ordered.
1) warm complimentary buttered bread
2) calamari - fresh and lightly batered with spicy, tomato sauce; there were tons of tentacles, which everyone knows is the best part!
3) bacon-wrapped shrimp was fresh and flavorful; the bacon wasn't overwhelming; the dish came with great fried rice and sweet plantains
4) grilled grouper came with rice and a bean soup; the bf LOVED the grouper; it was pretty darn delicious. The fish was grilled perfectly and came with onions and green peppers. .
I would definitely come back if I could.
great place....food is excellent, people who work/ serve there are very friendly and accomodating (even when very busy with all the tourists whose english is not so good) and seating is outside or at tables inside. can be as simple as rice and black beans. cubano sandwich is excelent. definitely the place to go for lunch if you're in chokoloskee or everglades city. look for the pink bldg. next to the post office.
now open fri. & sat. nights for dinner. NO CREDIT CARDS
Yes there is Cuban food out in the middle of the Everglades!!!
You need to look out for this place because it's litteraly a hole in the wall. Â It's next door to the post office and if you're not paying attention you will pass right by it. Â This is a family owned and operated restaurant that serves some of the best Cuban food that i've had, and I grew up eating the stuff. Â
You enter Havana Cafe and are immediately greeted by a friendly smile, you order at the cashier and take a seat at either the counter, an inside table or if it's breezey one of the outside tables. Â Once your food is ready they bring it right to you.
Everything here is fresh! Â This place is located in a fishing village so they definately have the hook up! Â The fried grouper is my favorite thing to order, not greasy, no thick breading, nice, crispy and very tender. Â Â Everything from the black beans to steak and even stone crab when it's in season...
One important note is to call before you go, they do close for a couple of months during the off season.
They are also motorcycle friendly!
