I want to like Harpo's- it's in a convenient location, and they have Geeks who Drink trivia.  But the service is terrible and the food is not much better!

To start off, let me just say that I really enjoy Trivia Night, and Harpo's is a great place to meet up with people for drinks and games. This review is strictly separate from trivia night.

As for the service, I have yet to meet server with much else to offer than a pretty face. They're a bunch of snooty self-entitled high school/CU sorority girls using their skinny bodies for better tips. They've never been friendly to me; whenever I order a drink, they make me feel like I'm just another nuisance on a busy Tuesday night. I wish they'd at least give me a fake smile.

You'll probably like this place if you're a total bro. I'll go to Trivia Night, but I wouldn't frequent here for anything else. The bartenders don't understand the appropriate time to cut someone off either. I told them to cut my friend off before all those drinks she had would get the best of her, but they were more interested in being entertained by drunk hot messes like her than concerned for customer safety. Pretty immature, if you ask me!

We happened by on a Tuesday, which is important if you like a good burger (or chicken sandwich.  Every Tuesday they have a special where you buy one burger and get the second at half price.
The service was fairly rapid, which could entirely be attributable to our attentive server, Ryan.

The fiesta burger was very good with  flavorful and juicy beef.  The jalapeños used on the burger were fresh and crisp rather than the picked variety many restaurants use.

We also tried the El salvadoran burger with chicken and were pleasantly surprised.  The fries were also tasty and seasoned with one of their signature dry rubs.

They have 25 beers on tap, so the selection of beverages is also rather good!  All in all, I'd recommend this place based on my experience!

Came here on Saturday for the MMA fight. It was a $5 cover and most of the tables were taken. The only one left was this huge one outside not near any heat lamps. This was good because our group was large, but not good that it was not near a heat lamp as it was freezing.

I ended up watching most of it inside standing up. I met the owner and he was a cool guy, he ended up buying us some drinks. Other than that, this place was definitely brimming with testosterone. They were offering $2 "TapOut" shots that tasted like juice. Not bad.

They need nicer TVs and more heat outside if they're going to charge a cover.

When I first moved to Boulder in July my established co-workers invited me out to Harpo's for Trivia Night...and I'm glad they did.

Yeah, the sound system isn't the greatest for the place, but it's mostly because of the noise level. My teams have done fairly well and terrible, but it's not going to detract me from coming and having a good time.

The staff has always been super friendly, helpful, and overall ON POINT! Pretty sure they know my order, a Buff Gold and the Acadian, yes on the fries!

I've been running MeetUp Trivia Night events here for a few weeks now and it's become a regular thing for us now. That should tell you something about the experience, the staff, and the trivia.

I've also been for Rock N Roll Bingo, that was fun too...I can't really complain about this place. Solid four stars for sure. I come for the great beer deals, the fun, and the TVs...isn't that what a sports bar is all about anyways? Keep it real, Harpo's!

PS - Friendly tip, if you use Foursquare...first 25 people to check-in between 6-10PM get 15% off your bill. I ALWAYS get 15% off.

I was a loyal customer to Harpo's Bar & Grill until an unfortunate incident recently. My friends and I walked into the establishment and ordered 2 pitchers and 4 margaritas split equally between all of us within a 3 1/2 hour period. We were cut off without even feeling a "buzz" by the waitress who first claimed it was the managers decision but then later came to be that it was the inexperienced waitresses decision. I must say this was a very disrespectful gesture towards us and they have lost all future good references I would give to future potential customers.

Great place to get a few beers and apps. The weekly trivia is fun here, but tends to be crowded. Besides that it's a great place to watch all your sports in one place.

This is a sports bar (which I generally don't go to). The food is pretty good, say 4 stars. Standard sports bar fare. I've had both the burger and the tacos and both are good. I went with a large group and they were all happy with their meals.

The service is good. They are understaffed and that can delay ordering a bit but the waitresses are all moving fast and so it's not too bad.

The reason I go is the trivia contest they have on Tuesday nights. It's part of GeeksWhoDrink and there are 30+ teams. A lot of fun.

So why only 3 stars? Because their sound system is horrible and so the trivia game is them announcing a question and everyone at the table saying "what did he say?" It's a fun event, but very frustrating at times because it's the system is so bad.

I have been to Harpos many times over the past few years and most recently ate there for lunch.

It is a pretty decent sports bar, with sort of a dive barry dingy feel to it.  The prices here don't follow the theme or feel.  I have never had a terrible experience here, but I have never had a great experience here either.

The service that I have had has always been marginal, always seems like I am getting served just slow enough for me to notice, but not slow enough to be overly upset about it.

Back to the prices, it is easy to spend $14 for a hamburger here, which are solid, but not in the $14 range.  i would say that is the same for most of their food.  It is all pretty solid, it just seems like the prices are about 30 - 40% high than comparable food in other places.  Except for the Jamaican Jerk Chicken Wings, they are delicious and worth every penny.

Good place to go after a game with a team, and I will most likely be back, it is as Yelp grades 3 stars "A-OK".

nice local bar to get a good burger made just how you want it and a pretty low key atmosphere to chill while watching the game.  Not to mention the thursday night tacos are wonderful

One bad experience with the staff can ruin the entire night. The one star is for our waitress, who was great, and a fun trivia dj. The food was mediocre, the ambiance is nonexistent, and holy god I had a bad experience with one of the waitresses. I asked the wrong person a question. In the bathroom stalls they have screws instead of levers to close the door. I managed to cut myself because they are sharp, and I didn't remember them having screws in place of door knobs before, so I asked if it was a permanent thing, or temporary thing, with my self deprecating "I always hurt myself" attitude. She said something to the effect of "did your hand fall off? Maybe you should talk to her" and suddenly the other waitresses were asking me what was wrong, and there was a manager involved, and it became a VERY BIG DEAL. So, since it was now a big deal, and I was publicly embarrassed for bringing it up, I know think it's a big deal. I am short-staffed at work currently, I have to work every day as a barista, and it fu$&ing sucks to have a cut on my hand when I really need it. So, thanks Harpo's. There is nothing to make me want to come back.

Harpos is a very nice sports bar.  We came on a Friday afternoon, and the place was about half full, and there was literally one server.  I felt so sorry for her. She was running around with no time to waste.  Food was good.  Lots of smokers on the patio, so stay inside if you don't smoke.  Nice atmoshere inside.

It all that you expect, if you expect a place to get a beer, have low sauce wings, and you get to meet locals going to play softball or other sports.

Bar was nice, people were nice, and the chicken wings were enjoyable. A bit dry but enjoyable. And they served a good blue cheese dressing.

Aweful. Just finished up there after running the bolderboulder. Look, I tend to give establishments the benefit of the doubt, but harpos...sucks. got there around 1pm on memorial day. First thing I was surprised by was the beer prices. $4.75 for a sam adams? At a sports bar, really? I opted for a can of dales pale for $3.50. We asked for our waitress to change our tables tv to espn to which she replied "ugh. Yeah it will probably take a few minutes since were so busy..." we looked around to see maybe six tables of people out of maybe thirty in the place. Busy?? The lack of people was a bad sign. Ten minutes later, after resorting to asking the bar tender to change the channel, we got to watch our game. We then ordered our food. Basic order burgers fries salad etc. Fifteen minutes later our waitress returns "umm so the kitchen lost your order. Do you guys want to reorder or just go somewhere else?" We were confused and flabergasted to say the least. We decided to pay our drinks bill sans tip and leave. Long story short we opted to hit up backcountry for a beer and pizza. Never will return and don't recommend this place. Poor service and horrible management.

Harpo's is a place you can depend on!

You can depend on watching your favorite Colorado team play. You can depend on a crowd who will cheer with you. You can depend on great drink specials. And you can depend on good service.

Harpo's holds a special place in my heart for their ability to accommodate even the lesser known sporting events. On a Sunday morning in May, a group of friends and I gathered at Harpo's to watch Nadal defeat Federer at the Madrid Open. Harpo's just opened, the place was empty besides us, but service was great. It was a fun way to start the day. Vamos Rafa!

When it comes to sports bars, Harpo's has won me over.

I've thoroughly enjoyed my visits to Harpo's. I love all the HDs with different sports & fights going & they gave an awesome buffalo chicken sandwich. They would've got 5 stars, but I feel the meals are a bit pricy.

Decent beer prices + okay food + a hot waitress = 4 stars

The streetside seating is pretty cool for people watching and hollering at girls.

Food is overpriced for what you get. The waitress was uninterested in her job and her attitude showed it.This was the 1st time I had been back here in 10 years since it was the Barrel house and I probably won't go back for another 10 years. There are plenty of places to watch sports, eat and drink beers and I would not suggest this one.

Great for one beer and a game. If you expect more, go somewhere else. Food is mediocre at best - and over-priced. Wait service isn't great either. The upside is that it's rarely busy and there are many TV's for great sports viewing.

Seriously Harpos deserves 5 stars because the food it heavenly (burgers are good and juicy) and the ambiance is really nice and relaxed. Melissa is THE BEST server at Harpos.  I know this because of my once-a-month visit to Harpos and have experienced other servers that aren't up to par.  My issue with Harpos: their door charge for UFC fights!!!  I know, the horror.... But seriously when you are already spending upwards of $40 to $50 for two people on burgers and beers, why should you pay $5.00 per person at the door?  Ridiculous!

So, as much as we love Harpos, my hubby and I have decided to boycott and never return and just find another UFC hangout until we hear word that the door charge has changed...  :o/

Harpo's use to be one of my favorite places to watch games, and the food was good as well. But I'm not sure if a new manager has come through, but their customer appreciation has gone down a lot.

Being in the service industry i have learned that no matter what, the customer is always right. So a few weeks ago when i went there with friends, i was shocked when after being told by our server that Avery was on drink special (and we ordered a number of them) that we were charged full price! After talking with the server, who talked to her manager, was only able to offer them as pitchers, so we still had to pay more. The server's answer was to take it out of her tip. Beer on tap is a HUGE money maker for a restaurant, and to take a little hit on it is not a big deal. As a customer i was very surprised that this was their solution.
On a positive note my nachos were delicious. I then returned last weekend, to give it another shot, and was once again disappointed. My chicken tenders had no flavor, and when i asked for another sauce i was charged, not a huge deal, but it would have been nice to have been notified of this. The burger was a bit over cooked, while the fry's were undercooked. Also the entrees came out way too fast, it was too much food all at once, so some got cold while i tried to eat it all at once.

Ug i hate to write such a bad review, but these are my honest feelings. It will take a lot of convincing for me to return.

5 stars for being one of the best sports bars ever. They have every sports package- even boxing! The food is pretty decent for a sports bar- the usual pub fare. Every Sunday morning, my boyfriend and I roll out of bed to get there for 11 o'clock football. Being from Boston, the Patriots are always on at 1 back east making it sooo early here. If you have trouble drinking beer before noon, they have a sweet bloody mary bar and great breakfast specials. They have cheap avery or left hand during Broncos games and they have Miller Lite girls or other promotions going on a lot of the time. Can't wait for spring to watch the Red Sox!

The Yankees are 4-0 when I watch them here.

Until that changes - this is the best place ever!

Beer selection is very good and their nightly specials on certain breweries are great (Avery - Wednesdays, New Belgium - Thursdays).  I used to come here regularly for wing night on Wednesdays, but since they upped the price and made veggies extra, I'm no longer quite the fan of Harpo's.

The food at Harpo's is not nearly as good as the Lazy Dog and the atmosphere isn't as excitable or loud during NFL Sundays and other major sporting events.  Depending on my mood, the latter can be a positive or negative.

For being a sports bar, the TVs here are pretty poor.  I don't think they have a single HD screen.  But, I guess the Lazy Dog isn't busting with flat-screens either.

Er, pros... I guess the staff is really nice and friendly?  Oh, another plus, they have an outdoor pool table!  At the end of the day, it's a pretty decent place to watch an out-of-market game.

    UPDATE 07/29/08:
I came here over the weekend for a baseball game.  They've upgraded a number of their TVs to HD plasmas but I think the food has gotten worse.

I like this place. Away from the college kids and trendy downtown area. Food is good. Good beer selection. Good group of regularslocals. Lots of TV's make it great for watching whatever game you're there for. Great Happy hour food and drink specials from 3-6 weekdays. and they have a featured beer on special each night. Also has pool table and other bar games.

I've got a lot of history with this place--just as the place has got a lot of history itself. You can read up on its colorful history on your own time, but the short-hand is that it used to be a Hooters, was once a topless bar for a few days, and in its best-known stretch was called The Barrel House, during which time USA Today ranked it as one of America's best sports bars.

So, its current incarnation as Harpo's has a lot to live up to. So far, in my experience, Harpo's lacks the color of the old days, but has made up for that with many, many improvements. For starters, the Barrel House had a pretty rank bathroom, which went into decline during its tenure as The House. I recall walking into the bathroom one busy day and two of the three urinals were out of order! When Harpo's took over the first thing they did was renovate the bathrooms, and my god, what a difference.

They also upgraded the menu, incorporating traditional sports bar fare like half-pound burgers and chicken wings alongside fresh fish, healthy wraps and salads, and the Hole-e-Cow, a Hawaiian-style sausage sandwich with a specially made bun that completely surrounds the sausage so you don't drip special sauce all over your fingers.

And of course, they've got more than 30 televisions so that you can always find your game on Sundays. We usually go to the Lazy Dog now, but when we used to go to the Barrel House they'd often give us Steelers fans a special place for viewing. Can't beat that.
