I love diner food and often order turkey because I rarely have it at home. Yesterday, hungry for lunch while travelling north on US-17 toward Charleston, I stopped at the Harvest Moon and roast turkey was one of their specials at $8. I asked for dark meat which came with cornbread stuffing, cranberry sauce and collards. ~~Delicious~~ Probably the best I've ever had in a restaurant. I would even serve it for Christmas dinner if only I lived closer.
The turkey was remarkably juicy and tasted like turkey should, the stuffing was really good as was the gravy and the seasoned greens were nicely cooked (not grey and boiled to death). The meal was enormous so I had the left-overs boxed and also ordered a piece of Boston cream pie which reminded me, that evening, of how much I used to enjoy this "pie" as a child. Service was professional and smooth -- thank you Adrienne.
YUMMY! Â This place is rockin' awesome...my boyfriend and I have such counter-active tastes in restaurants that we always keep going back and forth about what and where to eat in the Charleston area; what a fantastic happy medium we found at Harvest Moon! Â We stopped here around 7pm as we were heading to Beaufort to catch a drive-in. Â The place is adorable: clean and fresh with cute knick-knacks, mason jar drinking glasses, and brown paper tablecloths. Â He ordered the steak; I got a few veggies, and neither of us were able to speak a word until we were done (a good thing!). Â Afterwards, we decided to try something a little different and order dessert for a change. Â He got the apple pie, and I got the bread pudding. Â My bread pudding cost $2.50, but his apple pie cost double..."why so much?" we wondered...and then it came...
LORD HAVE MERCY; we didn't expect to be tasting the BEST apple pie to ever grace BOTH of our mouths COMBINED! Â It was something out of a dessert-induced dream...in fact, BF commented that it was even better than his celebrated great aunt's apple pie, and that's nothing to sneeze at! Â Flaky, buttery, delicate, sweet, succulent, fresh, saucy, and topped with a generous scoop of cinnamon-y ice cream...that stuff's worth the trip all by itself!
Okay, so they have a bunch of veggies and no "veggie plate" option, the service was a tad sluggish, and the bread pudding was a bit dry, but no biggie! Â Considering the fact that BF and I have finally stumbled upon an affordable place to eat that serves great food and keeps a friendly staff, Harvest Moon is doing way better than most more expensive places we've tried. Â We will most certainly be back.
We were on our way from Beaufort to Charleston and wanted some good southern low country food. Â We were both thinking that some fried chicken would be good. Â I went to Yelp and the Harvest Moon Low Country Grille came up with good reviews so that's where we decided to stop. Â We were happy to see fried chicken on the menu. Â I ordered dark meat fried chicken and my husband decided to go with the quiche, it was the special of the day. Â Shortly after the waitress took our order she came back and said they no longer do dark meat friend chicken, only white meet friend chicken. I really don't care for white meat as it tends to be dry. Â I was very disappointed and decided to go with the fried shrimp. It was fabulous and my husband quiche was excellent. Â We saved room for the apple pie and all I can say is OMG! It was soooo good. Â If you don't normally eat dessert give in just this once. Â You will be happy you did. Overall the service was good and the waitress was friendly. This is definitely a great place place to grab some good southern food.
Review Source:Breakfast & Lunch Mon-Sat 6AM-3PM. Dinner Wed-Sat 5PM-9PM. Meals come in portions of small, regular and hearty and priced accordingly. So you order what you want and don't waste. Daily Blue Plate Lunch Specials are worth a trip. Our lunch included chilled mango soups, pulled pork sandwiches, fries, slaw and beverages. The pulled pork was perfect - not drowning in sauce, not dry - perfectly flavored. The bread was a grilled kaiser roll - no soggy hamburger rolls here. Fries were crisp, hot and not greasy. Cole Slaw was fresh chopped cabbage in a homemade dressing. Just the right amount to flavor not so much that it drowned it. We will be back. 843-889-1000 http://www.harvestmoonlo…
