This is definitely a very filling meal to have - everything we ordered was huge.. and flavorful.  The gal that served us was great - she noticed my baby belly and asked if I wanted a mock-tail - "yes, please!"... it was their freshly muddled berries, dash of simple syrup and muddled mint in soda water - refreshing and a great alternative to the plain old water I'd been drinking every time we went out.  I appreciated her thoughtfulness.

Food was tasty, filling, well priced and it was located within an easy walking distance from the Grand Jerome Hotel just up the hill (well, everything is within easy walking distance, actually).

The burger was very tasty and the vibe was very Jerome. Great place to grab a bite to eat!

I'm going to have to disagree with most of my Yelper friends and say "skip it" for Haunted Hamburger. It's just a little too touristy and kitschy for my taste, and I think they rely too heavily on prepackaged food.

I was disappointed that they only had frozen garden burgers for vegetarians. I don't know why they can't put a little more effort into making their own veggie burger as many restaurants do. I got their veggie sandwich instead which was a large mass of sauteed white mushrooms, tomatoes, green bell peppers and onions topped with a thick slab of american cheese. The roll it was on was great, but it couldn't stand up to the filling. The guacamole came in a little souffle cup and was clearly a commercial product. It's inexcusable in AZ to not make your own guac. I got a twice baked potato on the side, also drowning in american cheese. I scraped most of it off and doctored up the potato with some hot sauce.

My husband fared better with his haunted burger and steak fries. He said the burger was one of the better ones he's had.

Service was fine, and I did like the view from our table. If you're looking for great views however, go to Asylum for dinner.

This is the first time I've ever used a knife and fork for a burger. I ordered the Haunted Burger, and it was massive and tasty, but not a life-changing experience.
You're really at this joint for the decor and the ghost stories, both of which are pretty awesome.
I tried the prickly pear margarita based on yelp reviews, and I could barely taste prickly pear OR tequila. Not worth the money, so I'd suggest passing on the marg.

We were staying at the Jerome Grand Hotel and it was late and we were hungry.  We were almost hungry enough to pay the outrageous prices at the hotel's Asylum restaurant but all agreed we would rather have the buzzards picking the remains off our cold dead bones before shelling out 20 bucks for a piece of tofu with rice and up to $600 for a bottle of wine.  The hitch is, when you stay at the Grand the only other option is to hike down the long, steep, unlit trail to get something in town ... and then make the brutal trek back up the hill after eating and drinking.

We finally (as they say in the Old West) bit the bullet and dragged our butts down the hill to the closest bar/restaurant, the Haunted Hamburger, not expecting anything but overpriced crappy food (like we had at nearby Bobby D's earlier that day).

How wrong we were.  The place is cozy, friendly and reasonably priced.  It was late in the evening and it seemed that several of the other hotel guests had also made the same choice.  They sat our party of 8 instantly.

I started my meal with a Hawaiian Ice-T which packed enough of a punch that my climb up the hill later reminded me of my college days.  The drink gave me more energy than a Red Bull.

I was still feeling the after effects of a lunch that didn't agree with me but being the trooper I am my choice was the Big Dog with Chili and Cheese with a side of cole slaw.  Check this out, the meal was only $6.99 ... I mean we're talking about tourists being held captive in a town with about 6 restaurants at the top of a mountain.  Major points scored here for price/value.  The dog was BIG and tasty and the chili had a nice amount of tang to it.  The cole slaw was identical, I mean IDENTICAL, to what the much more expensive place tried to pass of as homemade at lunch.  I'm positive they both came from the same source.

Our server was friendly, fast and efficient and from my seat I could see a roaming manager who had an eagle eye on service.  At the appropriate time he came over to our table to inquire about our satisfaction.

The Haunted Hamburger rates one of my rare 5 stars, not because it is a culinary discovery of haute cuisine but because it is what I respect ... a small town bar & grill that serves a good meal at a reasonable price and doesn't take advantage of their guests just because they're tourists who they will probably never see again.

Great view, great food. The cakes while waiting looked delicious HUGE slices so plan on splitting. My daughter and I had upon waitress's recommendation the fajita salad. Delicious grilled fajita makings on top on lettuce. Very tasty. Iced teas served in mason jars with lemon slices was a nice touch. Service was very friendly and attentive. And the views could not be beat.

Very small place. We walked in and the bulk of the dining area is the bar. You also walk right into view of their cake display. Huge cakes and huge slices to tempt you to order dessert. Tables over in one corner and very loud atmosphere. Luckily it was a fairly nice day, maybe a little cool, but nice enough to sit outside on the covered deck. Overhead heaters helped keep us warm. The wonderful view of the mountains also distracted us from any chill.
Service was good, but abrupt. But there were only two waitresses and it was busy at lunch time.
Hubby ordered 1/2 rack of ribs which came with veggies and steak fries.  I ordered the special which was Meatloaf sliders.
RIBS: Very good. The bbq sauce was good, but not sure if it was homemade. Ribs were smoky and tender. A nice touch was the small bowl of warm lemon water supplied to clean your hands of the sticky bbq sauce. This meal also came with a basket of bread and whipped butter. The bread was excellent. Crispy crust and soft centers.
STEAK FRIES: Average. Tasted frozen put in deep fry.
VEGGIES: Now, this was the highlight and showcased the potential of the chef. Shoestring sliced zucchini  yellow squash and carrots. Grilled & seasoned, with still a crunch to them. Excellent!
MEATLOAF SLIDERS: Thick slices of good meatloaf with "frizzled" onions, cheese and bbq sauce. The frizzled onions were excellent. Just like really good skinny onion rings. Excellent. Could have done without the bbq sauce. The mini rolls were very good also.
CARROT CAKE: We took this to go. Excellent. 3 - 5 layers of rich, moist carrot cake with cream cheese icing. Icing in between all the layers and of course on top. I especially liked that the icing was not smeared on real thick. It was the perfect balance of cake and icing.
Either the owner or manager was walking around a making sure everything was ok and taken care of. You could see he was keeping an eye on things, but he was also friendly and made us feel very welcome.

This place was really good. We went on Good Friday and it was super packed. It was hard to find parking. I have never been in the town before, and didnt realize it was built on a mountain! I can't wait to go to Jerome again and explore the ton more
Anyways, The wait wasn't too bad though, like 25 minutes. Unfortunately we couldn't sit outside, but we were on the top floor and had a good view.
The food was really good. I enjoyed the fried pickle appetizers and my party enjoyed their hamburgers. My veggie melt was ok, mostly cheese and mushrooms and bell peppers. I have experienced better but still good.
Overall a fun experience and I would go back again!

I wasn't going to write a review for here since it's already been covered by 170 others (to date), but then I read some reviews and felt the need to chime in about the horrendous service I received here as well.

We (group of 7) were seated upstairs where the view truly is spectacular. If you get a choice on where to sit, sit upstairs. Once up there, make sure you check out the pictures on the walls because they are all of old-timey stuff, but they change when you look at them from a different angle (you know the type). So one guy loses his head, etc. Fun "haunted theme" stuff and definitely a good way to screw with the accompanying grandson.

The server (some grouchy woman who apparently hates her job and can't wait to get fired (hint, hint)) should have been happy to see a minimum $20 tip sit down at her table, but instead gave us attitude the entire time. If you cant be friendly and muster up as little as a smile when taking orders, you really don't belong in the service industry. Then to take it one step further and assume that everyone MUST already know that you have a condiments bar for our burgers (Hmmm, I guess I missed that Rachel Ray episode) and to talk condescendingly when we ask for condiments, just adds to your need to leave here and go back to working at the local Denny's where that type of service is expected. OK, enough about her.

The assorted burgers we ordered all got "thumbs up" and the kids liked the chicken fingers.

Overall, the place is very "quaint" meaning, the bathrooms are very small and seating is very limited. Go around 11 am for lunch if you expect to get in right away.

The atmosphere and food is worth the 4 stars, just dont expect any 4-star service.

Great food, temperature of hamburger could have been a little warmer but was still yummy.  We had the Haunted Hamburger. Only thing wrong with visit was elderly lady seating people at tables at the beginning of visit was a little rude but she ended up being okay. Will definitely go back.

Just the perfect place for a great burger, fries and beer while looking out over the Verde Valley and the majestic magenta's of sunset on the valley walls to the east toward  Sedona.
Only caveat - Jerome is a vertical town.  You must be healthy enough to climb and descent the stairs that are throughout the village.  If not up to it, and you can't drive up and be dropped off, consider the Flatiron Cafe at the bottom of Jerome as an alternative.

We met some friends here yesterday while visiting Jerome for the first time. The first time our friends ate here, they waited nearly an hour for a table so we were lucky to walk right in and grab a table on the enclosed part of their outdoor patio. It was pretty chilly outside, but fortunately, there were heaters overhead to keep us from freezing over in the 40-something degree weather that morning.

My husband had the BBQ burger which featured crispy onion strings covering the approximately 1/3 lb hunk of meat drenched in BBQ sauce hugged with cheddar cheese and bacon.

I had the Haunted burger with the same meaty patty. Mine had Swiss cheese, bacon, and no BBQ sauce. Instead I had mushrooms and guacamole. Yes, again they had me at guacamole!

I washed down my burger with an Irish coffee. The Jameson whiskey and touch of Baileys in my Irish coffee helped give some extra warmth to the brisk morning, which I thoroughly enjoyed!

The nacho appetizer was good but you had to go inside to a self serve bar to grab the salsa. Kind of inconvenient when you're comfy sipping beer, or in my case, an Irish coffee and enjoying the view on the patio. What's a lazy person to do?!

I can't wait to return to this place during the summer with our friends and sit on he patio all day!

YUM!  Great atmosphere, excellent service and the food is SO GOOD!  The burgers are excellent, French Dip is out of this world.  The fries are great, but the twice baked  potato is DA BOMB!  I have to say that they also have a "Mile High Chocolate Cake" and if you don't have room after your meal, you MUST get a slice to go.  Just be sure you have at least 3 other people to share it with cuz its HUGE and RICH and amazingly moist.

We could not pass up the chance to eat here. The name alone is absurd and the "ghost" story even more so. Let's break it down:

Why am I not shocked that the same guy who seems unable to keep track of his hammers might be surprised by a door shutting in his face in a house that he was sure he took care of all drafts in? Guy can't keep track of his tools, why would we all believe he could keep track of his taping of windows.

Also pick a ghost story, either it is workers who are haunting you or a woman!

In all I loved that they had a story and the view is pretty good from this location. You feel as if you are perched on the perfect spot of the hill.

The food was pretty good for me.

Veggie Burger: made with b sauce and string onions. It was really good. I know another reviewer got a special made black bean burger but this is not the case anymore. They are from Gardenburger now, but still tasty!

Fries: More like potato wedges, which were also really yummy! Great for dipping into various sauces.

Twice Baked Potato: Sorta sad, and not very good. If you are looking for a real twice baked potato I suggest you keep looking as you will not find it here.

Margarita: Did the job and was in a cute mason jar.

Service: It was ok. Worth the 20% tip left. Although it is lame you have to get up and pay at the bar.

In all I would go back!

The Haunted Hamburger serves a frighteningly delicious burger! I should have known the food would be good based on all the reviews, and as usual, Yelp didn't steer me wrong. The restaurant itself is situated on the mountain overlooking the Valley which provides a great view for the meal! I suggest asking to sit either on the deck or on the second floor because the second floor has a much better view then the main dining room. I order the Haunted Burger which came with guacamole, peppers, cheese and onions. It was has ghostly delicious as it sounds. Now speaking of ghosts, I didn't see any during my visit so i can't confirm the myths about whether or not this burger joint actually is inhabited by the hungry ghosts, but it most definitely is haunted by patrons who are alive and hungry!

The burgers weren't terrible, please though, invest in a better bun! I would eat here again if we came up here. Yes, I think things could be improved on, we walked past their other restaurant Grapes and I was kinda bummed to see how much better their burgers looked. Also, could you explain to me the topping bar and why that is a good idea? Just seems like a waste of money and time. The server comes and sets your plate down and then says the topping bar is on the other side of the room. So why did you just spend the time to come serve me for me to then just get up and go get the toppings myself? It just all seems a little bizar. I don't get it. Sorry. The system just seems really backwards.

Good atmosphere though, we liked the little details about the place being haunted and it was cool to sit under the tabel with all the found hammers.

Like we said, we will be back if back to Jerome just a few little tweaks and this place could be really good not just okay.

I give this place 1 star mainly for the view and ambience it offers. The burger and fries an margarita I had were forgettable at best and just 0 stars.   The best part about the burger was the homemade fresh on site baked bun.  My burger patty was "crispy" on both sides it was way over cooked and very thin "think crispy version of McDonald's quarter pounder".  It was not juicy at all.  Tip, you know its going to be an overcooked too thin patty when the waitress fails to ask you how you would like it cooked, medium rare, well-done, etc.

The fries were more like potato wedges and tasted like they were previously frozen and not freshly cut that day.  Honestly I was very surprised by the low quality of the food, except the bun of course.  The owners other restaraunts I've been to are so very very good!  His wife is an awesome chef and food quality at the tavern is always tremendous! So what happened here? I'm praying they read this review and come up and fix things.... I would love to have a great burger in this place while enjoying the terrific view! But I won't come back unless I hear they've improved their patties n fries!

Lastly, we had the chocolate cake for dessert.  I was expecting something tasting like claim jumpers chocolate cake ... Fudgy, dense almost buttery tasting... Melt in your mouth... Not here. Again, I was shocked because I've tasted their desserts at the tavern which are exquisite! This tasted artificial, not fudgy, not creamy... Tasted like maybe a cake made from a box, with pre-made frosting from a can.  Very disappointing especially since it looked so tasty!

Oh, and I almost forgot the margarita..., I was not crazy about them being served in a small 8 oz mason jar with handle. Too much ice, not enough drink... Flavor was pretty good though, just need different presentation and larger quantity option.  I only write this review in hopes the owners make things right like I know they are very capable of doing.  Their restaraunt The Tavern is one of my favs in the area!

Three of use had a recent lunch experience at Haunted Hamburger over the Christmas Holiday. We were there during a busy lunch period but due to our size and flexibility, we were able to sit right away at the bar. If you wanted to wait for a table, you were looking at a 30 minute wait.

In terms of the decor, the place is is classic refurbished Jerome. Lot's of character.  It's an old wooden structure that's pretty intimate. By that I mean, packed in. This isn't a negative but if you want to discuss plans your next bank heist, you'd be better off ordering take-out.

As for the service, it was pretty quick for us at the bar. In fact, by what I observed, no food seemed to be sitting around very long. They seemed to be using some kind of dumb-waiter to get the food up from the kitchen on the lower level. Because the bar area/food station is so small, the freshly prepared food was scooped up by the wait staff and whisked out to the patrons almost immediately.

Speaking of food, I ordered the Haunted Chicken Burger ($12). Unfortunately the chicken was a bit over cooked so I had to channel my inner hyena just to tear the meat and chew...and chew..and chew. Fortunately the rest of the order was perfect. I absolutely recommend the Twice Baked Potato - outstanding. My dad ordered a burger with a side of fries and thought it was top notch. Mom ordered the sliders with the fried onion and gave it the thumbs up. We all washed it down with some local Sedona beer. Oh, and speaking of beer, everything is in bottles...I guess because there isn't enough room in the place to accommodate kegs.

I'd for sure go back to Haunted Hamburger only next time, I'd pass on the chicken and opt for the burger.

Wasn't actually expecting much as this is a touristy little place. The view is amazing but surprisingly so was the food. I had the haunted burger and really enjoyed it. We sat at the bar because there was a line but the bar tender was extremely nice. When one of the orders came out wrong his switched it out without even batting an eye. Nothing more frustrating than when the wait staff give you grief for the kitchens mistake. Kudos for not acting like we insulted you momma's cooking. If you are ever in Jerome, AZ I would highly recommend eating here.

Wow, seriously amazing black bean vegetarian burger or as they call it, "black bean cajun burger." The best one I have ever eaten in my 8 years of being a vegetarian, such a shame this place is all the way out here and not close by! Seriously spiced and huge with a delicious cheddar slice, you have to get up and put your own toppings on your burger from the condiment bar. Pedestrian toppings but honestly this burger didn't need anything to be delicious, that was just the icing on the cake.

My partner's bacon avocado burger was also amazing as I was told, all burgers served on kaiser rolls that tasted freshly baked. Their steak fries were well seasoned and cooked to crisp perfection. Their drinks come in cute jelly jars and I am only sad I didn't try their fried pickles :(

Service was good, the only con was that this place was a pain to get to. You have to climb steep stairs two stories high because there is no street parking up on the hill where the entrance is. If it's not too hot sit outside, it has a great view of the town down below and they encourage you to visit the patio to take pictures. Not sure why someone said it has views over Sedona when it's Jerome and Clarkdale (Verde Valley), there are no red rocks to be seen here people.

Why is it called the Haunted Hamburger? Look at my photo with the story of this place to find out..I was too lazy to type it out.

It's hard to find a parking space in town, and this place is small and gets crowded, but it is definitely worth the long walk and wait. I had the haunted burger with steak fries and cole slaw. It came with a  1/2 pound charbroiled patty, topped with sautéed mushrooms, bacon, cheddar and swiss cheese, grilled onions and a side of guacamole. There's also a station where you can get additional fresh toppings like lettuce, tomato, jalapenos, green peppers, onions, pickles, sauces, etc. The only problem is that holding all this together represents a complex structural issue, and the homemade buns just can't prevent it from falling apart.
Well prepared food in hearty portions, prompt and attentive service, inviting atmosphere and a great view. What's not to like!

A big damn burger and a stellar view above Sedona.  Friendly help and friendly patrons.  I rode up there on my Harley and it was a fantastic day.

Only thing that kept it from being 5 stars was the bun being drenched in grease.  Outstanding burger and fries but I had to take a shower afterwards!

A restaurant with a view!  And what a view it was.  This place is located in Jerome, AZ, a city built into a mountainside and the first place I've been to in AZ that accurately captures the architecture of my native Pittsburgh, PA by featuring buildings practically stacked on top of buildings.

First, be forewarned that finding parking in Jerome may not be easy.  I had to park a half a mile away or so and take a quick jaunt down a hill to get to the grub.  I feel this actually enhanced my visit to the place, but to some people, especially those with disabilities, this may be a problem.  The building itself has a very charming atmosphere.  It feels right out of an old western, a very cozy, worn in wooden building with narrow hallways and staircases.  I opted to take my meal on the top floor of the hotel so I was near the windows with the best view.  From that towering locale, I was able to see out on the entire Verde Valley region.  It was quite breathtaking and certainly enhanced my dining experience.

I ended up ordering a BBQ burger and steak fries.  Our server was very friendly and we received our food in a timely manner.  The fries were superb, crispy on the outside, chewy but firm on the inside as any great steak fries should be.  The burger was also quite phenomenal.  The patty was huge and slathered in BBQ sauce, bacon, and cheddar with a few crispy onions for good measure.  Condiments are optional, and since I love to load my burger I trotted over to the condiment bar to load up on fresh, crisp lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and jalapenos.  If there was one thing that could be considered a problem, it was the fact that the bun simply was not big enough to handle the amount of food wedged between the halves and somewhat disintegrated while eating the burger.  It did not become soggy and inedible, just fell to pieces, so towards the end I essentially was eating a ground beef salad.

I was quite enchanted by my stay in Jerome and plan on coming back for more visits.  Undoubtedly I'm going to be hungry at some point during one of these future visits and have no doubt I would come back to grab another bite to eat from this quality establishment.  Highly recommended for the view, the atmosphere, the wait staff, and the food.

    Food (4/5) -
The burgers are big, juicy, and pink in the middle. Mine came smothered in mushrooms, bacon, cheese, green chili, and grilled onions. The twice baked potato was tasty, as were the seasoned steak fries.

    Ambiance (4/5) -
The views, especially sitting outside, are great. It's cramped inside, especially if it is busy.

    Service (5/5) -
    Service was prompt and friendly.

    Total Impression (4/5) -
A cool place to get a hamburger in Jerome, especially for the views.

I was very fortunate to come here for my 40th Birthday this past Friday March 30th with a bunch of friends and my girlfriend. I've been wanting to head to Jerome for the longest time and finally did. The food was good, the service was friendly and the restaurant was quaint. I can't wait to come here again and be blessed with such kind and gracious hosts. I had called earlier in the week and let them now that there would probably be about 12 of us and they were very accommodating.

Highly recommend! Its a great place and the views are fantastic!

My grandparents took us here for lunch Saturday. We thought we might miss the crowd by going at 2:30 but it was still pretty busy! We only had to wait about 20 minutes though. While we were waiting, I decided to try their specialty cocktail Prickly Pear Lemonade that was vodka, lemonade and prickly pear syrup. It was super refreshing and served in a mason jar (all drinks here are!). The guy that took our name when we came in was also bartending and I stood there for about 4 minutes, with money in hand and he just ignored me. I saw him talk to a couple sitting at the bar, bus the bar, come over to the register that I was standing in front of, put something on top of it, all without acknowledging me.

We were lucky enough to get a table on their patio, right by the window so that we were able to over look the town. What a view!! That's reason enough alone to go to this place. I had their cheeseburger with green chilies and it was tasty. The meat was a little too fatty for my taste, but the burger was cooked fine. My brother's on the other hand was red in the center. Ick. They didn't ask how we liked them cooked so I assumed they'd all come out medium well.

There is a bar inside that has all the hamburger toppings, although it is pretty small and gets crowded since it's right next to the bar and in the waiting area.

Damn fine burgers... Even better view.

This place is a mom and pop burger  spot with an epic view. The nachos with ground beef are amazing in a fat guy kinda way. That is, they use nacho cheese instead of cheddar/jack.... If you like you nacho cheese get the nachos!

I went with a friend up there, I liked my burger.  It's not haunted, but the theme and the stories are fun anyway.  It's very casual and relaxed, the food is well sized.  I suggest if you get a piece of cake to share it with someone because mine was too big.

My friend and I sat in a booth on the top floor and it had the most beautiful view of the mountains.  I seem to remember the view more then anything else about the place.

Staying in Prescott Valley for the Christmas Holiday, the family tradition is to take the four wheelers and off road vehicles over the mountain into Jerome for the day.  We had too many people and not enough four wheelers, so several of us took the car.  We got there and met the rest of the family (10 of us) for lunch at the Haunted Hamburger.

We had to wait about an hour to get a table big enough for our group and we were sat upstairs. The wait staff was hospitable, fun and friendly.

They had several specials on the board, but they were leftover from another day, so they really weren't being served. But that was okay.  I went with their hot dog. (I know, a hot dog at a hamburger place!)  It was served naked on a big toasted bun and a trip to the condiment bar made for a nice Chicago dog!  It came with a small amount of fries and they were fine.

This isn't Haute Cuisine, so don't expect much, but if you are in the mood for a decent meal, this is the place to eat.

Further evidence that Rachael Ray has no taste. My parents and I made a pitstop here in the midst of a tour around the wineries. We were lured in by the aroma from the grill and crowd flowing out the door - this place had to be great, right? Not so much. We were greeted by a really friendly guy and waited for about the time he estimated.

We waited by a condiment bar, so we were able to preview the fare as people came in droves to dress their burgers and dogs.

When we finally sat, we were starving! Our server was quick with us, which was fine. We wanted food and she seemed slammed.

I ordered a salad, which came out after our burgers, which was shocking to me as my burger came out in a flash at a disgusting well-done temp.

The views were stunning and the service was friendly. Everything else, I could've lived without.

Enjoyed sitting on the outside enclosed porch of this place. The Prickly Pear Margarita is a must have. I also suggest ordering the jalapeño poppers with a side of prickly pear syrup.

We only ordered appetizers: mozzarella sticks, fried zucchini and the poppers but they were all really good. Apparently the burgers are really great at this place but I didn't get a chance to try one.

Great place to hang out and drink and eat. The view is awesome.

I enjoyed a burger from here but it was a little over handled or was a previously frozen one. The inside were a bit mushy. The Fries were good.

I did find it odd to have the server give you your meal then have to take it back in to get the let, tom etc. So i grabbed a plate of all of the condiments before I received the meal. Smart thinking I thought.

The service was good a little better then the usual service you would expect. Try not to sit near the dumpster next to the road. Pewww.

Jerome is a heck of a little town.
It's a deserving one. You have to climb, suffer and take winding roads to get to it but then you are rewarded by the sight of the Verde Valley lying at your feet.

You are on top of the Cleopatra Hill, in what used to be the "wickedest town in the West".

But this time has long passed; bordellos and thieves have packed their bags and have been replaced by artists and tourists. It is now a charming destination and a short trip to Sedona.

But Jerome is still haunted by its past - sometimes literally.

If you go to the Double H you will be welcomed by the story of the renovation of that old building. The owner had to deal with disappearing hammers, slamming doors in a hermetically closed place and other weird apparitions.
    Bone-chilling? entertaining? shameless publicity?
In any case it makes for good reading while you are waiting for your bar fare.

The burgers are surprisingly good. Nicely cooked, good buns and great toppings. The twice-baked potato is a winner too - so creamy and richly decadent it shouldn't be allowed on the menu.
They offer Oak Creek brews by the bottle - and I was more than happy to indulge in my new favorite, their Nut Brown Ale.

    So....nice....but.
Service was horrible. We had to change seating twice before being taken care of, and had to give up our nice table outside to find a waitress that was willing ti give us attention.
    Big bummer.

But with a happy tummy I cannot stay mad for too long....
Definitely a go-to place when you are musing around.

My friends were looking forward to this meal ever since I mentioned that the venue was featured in Rachel Ray's Tasty Travels.  The restaurant looked quaint and welcoming enough from the outside.  Too bad that the surly service almost made us want to leave and try elsewhere.  (To say that our female server was surly is an understatement.  Even the couple sitting at a table next to us wondered what was bugging her.)

I can't recall what my friends ordered, but I enjoyed the bbq burger with awesome onion rings!  This baby was BIG, with perfectly grilled and buttered buns, and just the right amount of bbq sauce.  I kept asking my companions if they wanted another order of onion rings, but they kept saying no, saying that their fries were enough.  (Although I wished I'd ordered more rings, I ended up silently giving thanks.  Read on, and you'll see why.)

There's a toppings and condiments bar where everyone could help themselves to all the toppings they want.  Not as great as it sounds, since the produce on display did not look fresh at all, but it's a nice touch.  My friends and I also shared a slice of the famous chocolate cake... I think there were 6 layers (maybe 8 or more!), and the outer "wall" of the slice was studded with chocolate chips.  The slice was served very cold, so every bite tasted better than the last as the cake warmed to room temperature, and the ganache filling resembled more like hot fudge sauce... Mmmm!

One complaint: the top level was closed (I think Tasty Travels mentioned the stairway or the hall was rumored to be haunted- a publicity ploy, I'm sure, but still, we were there and had hoped for a tour), and the tables on the first floor were crammed so close to each other, it made it hard to navigate through the dining area.  Even while seated at the table, the aisle spaces were so narrow.  Silver lining: we started conversations with three other groups; They couldn't help but notice the cake slice we were devouring like there was no tomorrow!

Fuck the vortexes of Sedona. I want the ghosts of Jerome. Alas, I didn't see any, but I had a damn good burger at the Haunted Hamburger.

Jerome is about a 30 minute drive from Sedona - and well worth the drive. It's an old mining town. Legend has it that a bunch of mines collapsed and people got trapped and now haunt the hills of the town. And in the early 1900s Jerome was called "the wickedest town in the west". If that isn't enticement enough for you to go there, then you shouldn't read any of my reviews. Ever.

We went on a snowy day - pretty unusual for Jerome, but par for the course with us. Something fucked up will happen, wherever we go. Good burgers, good cold beer, friendly service. What more could you want? Well, if you're me, you would want another drink... but the snow was really coming down. The bartender said hopefully the plow would come through soon. We asked if they were good about that. She laughed and said no. So we decided we should really get a move on it, since we were due back in Sedona for a wedding rehearsal dinner.

There's a nice little deck outside, which would be perfect for the nice weather. And it overlooks the playground, if you want to have a burger and beer in peace while your kids run off all their energy. Maybe  you'll even get lucky and see a ghost or two.
