I don't approve of the name, but I do approve of the food. A rural location like this rarely enjoys a restaurant of this caliber, and it's the only non-fast food here in the Westfield-Montello area. It's a little drive off the highway, and they only are open for supper (it's a supper club!) which is probably the only way they stay in business in this low-flow area.
Driving by for the first time and seeing the name "Haystack" filled me with images of stacks of allergy-ridden grass and cows chewing cud. After overcoming that unpleasant mental image and heading out to the Haystack for supper, they pleasantly removed that unfavorable impression.
Service was really friendly (it was a inclusive small-town atmosphere, it made me miss small town life!). I was not terribly impressed with the food, but the prices were okay and the atmosphere was rustic and pleasant. Here's the thing: if you want more than a burger and you're in the area for supper, the Haystack is the place! I wouldn't go out of my way for a supper here, but it sure is a nice addition to the area.
