It's so hard to find a good bar in CT and I'm from CA. The bartenders were awesome, even on a crowded night. They knew how to make my fave drink: stoli 'n coke, just the way I liked it and the way it should be made. Alot of bartenders at other bars don't even know what glass to put that drink in and you have to explain to them how to make it. Not here though. At a good price too. Will return again!
Review Source:The Hessian Lion is refreshingly different from other bars in the area, it's a casual dive with a pool table, a few video arcade games, and a nightly offering of entertainment. Some nights The Lion (I've taken the liberty of giving it a nickname) hosts bands with names like "Death Mango" or "Three Skulls on Holiday" (Not actual bands, I made them up for example's sake. Clever, I know.)
This is an unpretentious "come-as-you-are" kind of place. The drinks are cheap (they had me at $4 Guiness!), the bartenders are friendly and the bathrooms are small*. Â
The atmosphere ranges from almost uncomfortably quiet on some nights (we went on a Tuesday) to loud and chock-full of people (on weekend nights). There are a few couches and tables which makes for a good place to just sit and catch up with friends.
I recomend this place as a good place when you just want to go to a no-frills bar and hang out with friends.
*Speaking of bathrooms, the tiny women's room is always about fifteen degrees warmer than the rest of the bar which is really kind of unpleasant.
