    I visited the Hideaway today for the first time since moving to Guerneville, CA (a town within the Russian River area, west of Santa Rosa, CA). Having been "in the business" (I ran the Franciscan Restaurant on Fisherman's Wharf for almost 20 years) and have a degree in business and hotel and restaurant management. I'm always looking to experience new businesses and food.

    I ordered a scotch and soda which I promptly received and was pleasently surprised by the quality of the drink

    I then ordered dinner - prime rib with baked potato and fresh vegatables (broccoli, cauloflower and green beans). And I got the last order of prime rib!

    The drink, food and service were outstanding and portioned perfectly. I haven't had prime rib as good as that for quite some time.

    The only reason I'm giving the Hideaway 4 stars is due to the lack of basic access for persons with disabilities. There was no accessible parking (as required), no accessible tables (as required), and the bathroom was almost impossible to use, even though I was using my manual wheelchair. i wouldn't have been able to even get into the bathroom if I'd been in an electric wheelchair or scooter.

    The new owners have an opportunity to create the most talked-about restaurant and bar in the Russian River area, not only because of the setting and buildings that date back to the early 1900's, but also because of the reasonable price for the food and drink served there and the staff that went out of their way to make sure my experience at the Hideaway was a very positive/memorable experience.

    When the required access modifications are finally done and if the food and service continue to be some of the best in the area, this will be a winner everyone visiting Guerneville should experience.

    Thank you, staff.

    My first time here and loved it! Random antiques and cheap cold beer. Friendly staff, pool tables, and great outdoor patio. See ya soon Hideaway!

    went here for pot roast pot pies tonight. food is definitely tasty, very homey and like someone's cool grandma cooked it for you. our server was very friendly and helpful. atmosphere is cute, but because smokers congregate immediately outside the door, it was a little bit smoke-scented.

    Stopped into this little dive place and ended up having a great meal. Our waitress was super friendly. It looked as if all the locals were there as well.

    I would go back, if I was in town again..

    5 stars for the amazingly sweet people here!

    Due to bad logistical planning and timing on a lazy-tubing-down-the-Russian-River trip, my friends and I ended up across the street from the Hideaway with only our bathing suits and half deflated inner tubes. We were trying to hitchhike our way back to our put in point (where another group of our friends AND our car keys were located) when a couple of the bartenders came out, told us to stop hitchhiking, gave us their extra sweaters, shirts, jackets (we were FREEZING), and then proceeded to feed us a couple glasses of warm brandy =).

    This sort of genuine generosity is what makes me love small towns like this!

    The food was your average bar/pub food, fine and dandy, but really the whole staff was just so warm, funny, friendly, and even sarcastic at times that we had a great time there.

    * Polenta Fries - 3 stars
    <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-hideaway-guerneville-2?select=P3iTcNfsfCxv0BaJu3g7sg#yiUxvrdMZWNXNi_tl0PjiQ">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>
    (Roasted garlic & black truffle aioli and curry ketchup. $5.50)
    Best part was the curry ketchup. Unique & well-spiced. The fries themselves were a little disappointing, not very well flavored, with a decent crunch but pretty oily.

    * White Corn tortilla chips - 4 stars
    (Fresh fried with house-made roasted tomato and New Mexico Chile salsa. $4)
    Pretty good! The chips were clearly made in-house and were thick, almost like pita chips, and had a good garlic-y flavor.

    * Bisque soup - 4 stars

    * Burgatory - 3.5 stars
    <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-hideaway-guerneville-2?select=P3iTcNfsfCxv0BaJu3g7sg#F_dI8IorLdUSiY_p8QAZ0w">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>
    Cross-section: <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-hideaway-guerneville-2?select=P3iTcNfsfCxv0BaJu3g7sg#yzt6sKZjX8tNR2TyeWLu_w">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>
    (1/2 lb burger with jalapeno poppers, cheddar & fries. $9.50)
    They cook things on the rare side here! We asked for medium and this came out more like medium-rare, fairly pink on the inside. Works for me.. I prefer medium-rare anyway =). You get lots of fries. The meat patty itself is soft & juicy. The bun isn't super special, wasn't really toasted, but of a fluffy texture. The jalapeno poppers did not disappoint.

    * Baked macaroni & cheese - 2.5 stars
    <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-hideaway-guerneville-2?select=P3iTcNfsfCxv0BaJu3g7sg#K53ZRW3Us9Go_GLBTJDglA">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>
    (Rich, 5 cheese sauce with cracker topping. $7.50)
    The cheese was a little too thick and salty, greasy. Like they melted a bunch of Kraft American cheese slices over the macaroni. Not the most stellar dish.

    * Shrimp and grits - 3.5 stars
    <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-hideaway-guerneville-2?select=P3iTcNfsfCxv0BaJu3g7sg#l5dQ9WN7vSl9syv5mA5GQw">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>
    (Sharp cheddar, bacon, stone ground organic yellow grits and gulf shrimp. $11.95)
    Nice! My first time having grits with bacon. I found the hot sauce on the side not to go too well, but I'm not usually a hot sauce fan, and my friends definitely enjoyed it. It also had a white sauce mixed in which was rich & creamy. There was plenty of shrimp, loaded w/ spices, and they were all crunchy & fresh. The grits were on the viscous side but still nice & creamy, tasty.

    * Steak - 3.5 stars
    <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-hideaway-guerneville-2?select=P3iTcNfsfCxv0BaJu3g7sg#P3iTcNfsfCxv0BaJu3g7sg">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>
    (With dill-tartar sauce & a baked potato)
    My friends got steaks - not sure what actual item it was on the menu, but they are HUGE. Once again.. on the rare side (see pic: they asked for medium-rare). The potato didn't have much flavor. The dill sauce (I think that's what it was) was very fatteningly good.

    What a fantastic setting with a group of friends! It was a Saturday evening, only eight tables there--mostly 2-tops but two 4-tops--so our group of 12 settled in next to bar. I went to secure a pitcher of beer at the bar for our table--which was a fiasco since they do not sell beer by the pitcher--and I tried to order food. We were told that food had to be ordered with the waitress. Ok, no problem. But what waitress? We finally saw a women walking around helping patrons outside but would disappear into the kitchen immediately after--not acknowledging our existence. So another member of our group finally approached her after we had rearranged four tables to accommodate our group (we asked permission to do so), played two games of checkers, selected five songs from the jukebox, played a game of pool and had divided our pitcher of beer amongst the nine people who wanted some (so about 15-20 minutes). She was appalled that we were so demanding to ask about service because it was obvious how busy she was. She said she would be with us when it was convenient for her. Wow. Meanwhile, we saw four of her tables leave and she never even eyed our corner of the room.

    Needless to say we finished our beer and left to go eat at Stumptown Brewery....after sitting unattended at The Hideaway for 45 minutes. Who knew it was the staff who was hiding?

    My only hope is that the owners/management see this and remedy the blatant lapse in customer service because the ambiance is delightful--but that is really all I can speak to since we never got to eat.

    Don't go for the food. The menu looks scrumptious when hungry, but when it arrives, it's very subpar. For appetizers, we ordered the baked mac and cheese and these creamy corn fritters. You would think that that would be the total comfort food, but it's below average in taste and quality. The mac and cheese was penne pasta with grated cheeses and crushed Saltines on top. It didn't even look appetizing. As a matter of fact, I lost my appetite when I saw it.

    I ordered grilled fish tacos. Yumm, you think, right? Wrong? I had four of them on my plate, with a tiny piece of fish on each big ole tortilla. The only thing good about it, was um.... nothing. It was so bland. I asked for some lime to pick up the flavor, but that didn't even help, let alone, one of the limes had a  piece of hair lint on it. Gross.

    Ok. When will I stop complaining? Not yet.

    Well, I take that back. It's not fair to judge other people's food when I haven't even tried it, but if I were to base it solely on looks, my husband's grits with bacon and shrimp looked hella nasty, I wanted to hurl.

    I must admit, the outdoor seating was superb as well as the weather with colorful seating and shade. They have outdoor chalk for the kiddies to draw with while waiting.

    Will I come back? Nope. My stomach would rather starve than fill it with unsatisfying food.

    This is the first time we have ever been in this neck of the woods and decided to try The hideaway due to reviews. And yet again the old yelp has not lead us astray. The restaurant is very "Hometownish" and true you will miss it if you blink. The menus had something for everyone and I was supposed to see the items on the menus that where on it! I ordered the Mac and cheese loaded with the bacon and Jalapenos and the wife got the Francy burger. Both where very very good! The mushroom soup also was extremely fresh and earthy tasting ... We liked that! And my wife is extremely happy the burger had Brie cheese on it..., (She's French)

    Hubs and I came here on a Friday night at about 8 p.m. Only 3 parties in the dining room but the bar appeared to be hopping with regulars. Cons: very limited menu.
    Pros: service very friendly and attentive, prices decent. I love the old building. We've been here several times over the past 17 years and ownership has changed at least 2, maybe 3 times.

    Husband had Mexican seafood stew. He said it was good but slightly salty. When he pointed that out to the server she was like...'oh ya know, 1 in 50 people thing it's salty'...oooookkkaaaaayyy! I've read similar complaint on Yelp so know we're not alone.
    Anyway, fish and chips was good..tasty..not greasy and good quality. Dinner salads good. Fried onion rings extremely tasty.

    Will definitely come back on a different night when the specials are more to our liking. Really want to try the fried chicken dinner!

    Worth a visit if you are in the area.

    My boyfriend and I just had an absolutely wonderful dinner at the Hideaway. I had the fried chicken special with mashed potatoes and gravy, and it was the best fried chicken I have had in years! In addition to the great food, the place is very cute and comfy - will definitely return when we come back to the Russian River!

    Came here while on a trip to the area. There was four of us and a baby. The service was very friendly, as we're many locals who stopped by to admire the kid. Food came out pretty quickly, however it was hit or miss. Between all of us we ordered quite a few things. The highlights were:

    Polenta fries, crisp and flavorful with a nice aioli
    Fish and chips, good fries with a well spiced beer batter, HUGE portion
    Husb said the grits with shrimp plate was really good
    The place is old school cool, complete with board games you can play!

    Now the not so good:
    The Mac and cheese was bland
    The seafood stew has potential to be amazing, but it was way too salty,my tongue was burning after a few bites
    We ordered a chocolate dessert, the cake was crispy not at all cakey, but the whipped cream was good.

    Great comfort food; everyone there is personable; I just tried the Mac & Cheese the other night and yum!  The weekly specials are always fresh and delicious; if you have a chance to try the pulled pork - do so.  Oh, and the sweet potato fries . . . I could go on, but I have no complaints.  Quaint little dining area in a historical building under redwoods; bartenders are all fun too!

    This place is not fancy but it's a lot of fun and excellent value.  We had our wedding reception rehearsal dinner here on sept. 29th. Super friendly bar staff, great food for a group of 30, dirt cheap drinks!

    This was mine and hubby's first place we ate at while in the area and it really is a nice little friendly place just off the main road. Blink and you miss it so keep a very close eye out!
    I came here after reading the reviews with hopes to try their biscuits which a couple of the other reviewers raved about but unfortunately they had ran out of dough after having a big party in the night before.. Noooo! With that in mind I just settled on a side Salad (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/xvXN7fZH72bgrQf_JVCTZA?select=Bt9G8jcx7M5VqbB2t5kNWQ">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>) and Wine (big mistake! I'm such a lightweight.) while hubby ordered Country Fried Chicken (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/xvXN7fZH72bgrQf_JVCTZA?select=oq48bg1VCHMnH879FzW3mw">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>). The Chicken meal usually comes with biscuits also. I had a bite of everything on hubby's plate and it was very good - juicy Chicken, creamy slightly spicy mashed Potatoes & Creamed Corn... never having had Creamed Corn before I have nothing to compare to but it was pretty good too.
    The waitress also told us that the dressings for the Salads are all made in house.

    The staff and locals were all really friendly and welcoming too. Immediately they picked up on our still very strong British accents and started up friendly conversation and were really interested in asking about England and London in particular. I guess they must not get very many visitors from England here.

    If you're staying locally I definitely recommend a visit, just get a Taxi. We were staying in Monte Rio and as Yelp said it was just 1.1 miles away we decided to walk it, only it turned out to be 2.8 miles.

    Tara K. is right, it is just called the "Hideaway".  I give it 4 stars - these are big portions of homestyle comfort food.  My partner had the fried chicken, it was very good.  I had the pulled pork in a bbq sauce - very good too.  huge portions.  Mashed potatoes, gravy with the chicken were great.  The fried sweet potatoes with the pulled pork were great.  I wouldn't drive from far away to eat here, but if you are in the area and crave comfort food this is the place to go.

    Very friendly wait staff.  Neat old building.  Very crooked floors.  Lots of character.

    I don't believe that this place is called Angie and Geo's Hideaway but just "The Hideaway" because a young couple took over a month ago in this quaint establishment. Four of us were driving from the coast to get inland and decided to stop at this little place. We were all hungry and we decided to try a little hometown restaurant surrounded by beautiful redwoods. I ordered the snapper dusted in cornmeal and for a dollar more instead of regular salad I got a wedge salad. My boyfriend ordered the Sunday Special fried chicken. The wedge was the best wedge salad I've EVER had! Delicious! We received homemade biscuits with apricot jelly and those were awesome ! Fast forward to the main course and we were soooo delighted ! My dish had hushpuppies, fries, and coleslaw. My boyfriends had mashed potatoes and cole slaw. I had enough food that I took it to go. We ordered the desert  special lemon cheesecake bar with berries and whipped cream and that was sooo mouth watering. These folks are awesome. The boyfriend does all the cooking while the girlfriend makes the salads, rice, and some other items. They do this ALL on their own!!  They are going to need help when the seaon gets warmer with this down home cooking !!!  Anyone who sees this review please go check it out if you haven't thought about it. I live in a big city with many good places to go but by far this ranks up there with some of the best I've had. Thank you so much! Oh and by the way .... The cinnamon sugar donuts are delightful !!!

    The wife and I stopped here by accident and were glad we did. Great old bar on the Russian River. Beautifully carved bar with what appears to be the area's history carved in the top. Bunch of old timers talking about the old times, great to listen to.
