Went for a drive north to Hillsboro today.  While there, we decided to eat lunch at the General Store.  The lunch in the Historic building was outstanding.  I had the El Gordo Burger which comes with cheese, green chiles, mushrooms, bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles.  TERRIFIC!   We ended our lunch with a shared piece of Bumbleberry pie and ice cream.  It was excellent.  If they are busy, the service is rather slow, but the wait is worth it.

YUM! Worth the wait...you will wait on a busy day. We ate there on a warm Saturday during lunch. There is one lady waiting tables and one cook. We got the Dos Burger and the Burrito Pollo. Both were VERY good, all fresh and wonderful green and red chile sauce. DO save room for the berry pie and vanilla ice cream. HOMEMADE pie and WORTH it! Would we go here again, yes!

Less of a General Store, more of a Cafe. In fact I think this place's name should actually be changed to Hillsboro General Store Cafe (it says that on the sign, as well.).

Anyways, good breakfast! There were a fair amount of locals here, who I imagine ate there quite regularly. They were comfortable enough to step behind the counter and refill their own coffee. Which has nothing to say about service. Service was great. And the food was great as well.

I had a 'Highway 152 Pile-Up' which was eggs, hashbrowns, spicy sausage, pinto beans, green chili, and cheese over a flour tortilla. It took up the whole plate. The hashbrowns were great! Homemade style fried potato grated into thick wedges. I doubt they were prepacked. The green chili, was supposed to be a bit more mild than the red. If that was the case, I'm glad I got the green. It was spicy. But not too spicy, though the red might have been. This place is only open until 3 every day except Saturday, which I believe they're open until 6:30. I'm also not sure what time they open. If you're passing through Hillsboro, or if you stay the night, this place is great for breakfast! I'd recommend it!
