My husband and I have just purchased a "2nd home" in Truckee and our real estate agent recommended Cottonwood. Â It was a beautiful late afternoon yesterday, around 5pm and we were able to eat on the deck. Â The view of the town was wonderful and the food was amazing! Â The service was awesome as well! Â My husband ordered the steak which was cooked to perfection and tender. Â I ordered the pasta...linguini with grilled chicken breast, diced tomatoes and chipotle cream sauce which i will order again! Â Everything was delicious and it was a perfect evening!
Review Source:I went there recently with a large group - and was surprised they could accommodate us with only a 3-hour advance reservation on a Saturday night
Without going through all the food, some highlights were steaks, and the spinach salad - although it was overdressed (and I don't mean a bow tie). The ribs were too spicy for some but loved by others. They were out of something on their specials list which should have been relayed to the group when we were seated, as about 6 people wanted the item and had to start all over with the menu when the server told us this 15 minutes later.
Service was very friendly, but very slow when it came to ordering. When we were finally asked about drinks, we were also ready to order our dinners - but then were told of the 86'd item. However, supposedly they'd "just" run out. Then, while I realize drinks for a large group can take a while, it took WAY too long to place our dinner orders. Drinks don't have to arrive before meal orders are taken - and the bartender could have dealt w/ the drinks while the server returned to take our order. We were told "bread was on its way" - and that didn't appear for a LONG time- and when you're waiting a long time to order, bread would have sated us just a bit. Sadly, the bread was white foam - and not in warm, fresh-made way - they could do such much better with the bread.
The speed of the kitchen was good, considering it was a large group. The quality of the food was fine. I would go back again, but perhaps just with my husband - they don't seem to manage larger tables well. The setting is rustic but nice.
(For atmosphere) Because this is a childhood haunt of mine, I'm going to leave the food critique to the other reviewers and focus on what I love best about this place: Â its atmosphere. Â I'm tempted to say that I'll get married here, but as of yet, there are no prospects in that department so I'll simply say that when I enter the front door, through incandescent drifts of snow, I feel as if I were a teletubby in love. This place is a wonderland of history, locality, warmth, and good vibes. Â The staff was incredibly patient with me as I had to change our party from ten to six and back again and the bartenders kept my friends happy as they waited for us late-comers to join them. Â I think anyone who is staying in the Truckee area would enjoy a visit to Cottonwood, if only for a hot toddy at the end of a ski day. Â "Noon-way!"
Review Source:Situated high above the town of Truckee, this restaurant acts as a tribute to said town. Â You can feel the warmth of the town via the candle lit dining room and its 'keepin it real' locals. Â Â The menu is a mix of old and new; huge whole leaf Caesar, Â bosc pear salad, and honey bbq wings. Â The mains include south pacific basa, pork chops, rabbit, and steaks. Â I would love to give this place 4 stars, but my beef fillet was charred and dry. Â In fact, I will call it 3.5 stars right now, since i tasted a few of the other entrees and they were excellent. Â Â If you go, try not to ask Doug the bartender about that Dead show from '73.
