Many unique choices of pizza. Â They offer large and larger pies. Will do half and half on many.
We got the "Humble Pie" and the "Jack London" half and half. Â It was pretty good, but not one of the best I have had. Still it is worth a stop if you find yourself hungry between Charlottesville and Lynchburg.
I heard the calzones were really good. I will try that next time I am in the area.
The last time that I went to Dr Ho's was when it was in its original location - which I adore!
It is so exciting that it has a BIGGER location and I can't wait to see it!
I LOVE Dr Ho's! I get the pie with the jerk chicken - it is SO BIG and so GOOD. I also love their cheese bread!
They epitomize pizza-the BEST pizza ever!
Ohh this huge pizza is just for me :) i came alone got the 14in and had everyone look at me as if i could not finish it all.. well challenge accepted. being from NYC surrounded by great pizza im such a tough critic. I ordered the buddha (vegan pizza) it was ok. loaded with tons of veggies tho they definitely dont skimp on the toppings. I saw other pizzas coming out the they were all loaded with toppings.
You have to have good crust. The crust on the pizza didnt have much taste to it and the pizza was too thin. once i picked up a slice the pizza would collapse under the weight of all those toppings. def needs to be much thicker and crunchier. it was too soggy except for the crust which was crunchy. Sauce was good i was pleasantly surprised. The tofu on the vegan pizza sucked. but doesnt tofu almost always suck anyway. I would def eat here again but i would order something else something way more greasy unhealthy and meaty. The vegan pizza prbly would of tasted was better with fresh mozzarella. Btw i finished it all i never need a to go box.
ok, this place was oh so totally unexpected and amazing! Â what a gem! I had the lil mermaid/don Juan and have to say the use of shrimp on the mermaid and feta on both was liberal and delish. the hubby had a cheese burger something and downed it! I left with a box:) I got an impulse cookie on the way out: a peanut butter cookie with an embedded reeces pb cup and boy am I glad! the service was right on, kind, timely and not hovering, the kitchen was on point, I couldn't ask for anything else. wait, if they could open one in Maryland, I'd be the first one in line!
so here it is, fresh ingredients, paired in innovative and yummy ways in.... wait, where the hell are we? no, seriously. where the hell are we?
If you can get a seat, its well worth it. The food is excellent and the service is fast and efficient. There are definitely some pretentious people inside, given that it is "alternative pizza," but they are easy to ignore when your half and half annie oakley and humble pie arrives. My wife and I will definitely go back.
Review Source:I stopped by here on a lark with my wife and two small children on the way from DC to Greensboro, NC after doing a map search on the Yelp app while driving south of Charlottesville. We were very satisfied with the food, ambiance, and customer service. We had the Fat & Sassy garlic cheese bread and a 14" Don Juan. The waitress was very sweet to my kids, and my oldest had a blast decorating paper plates for their bathroom wallpaper. We will definitely make this place our lunch stop going to & from DC.
We overheard the owner discussing their expansion plans with construction currently underway...the new place will be 3 times the size, so it looks like they're moving in the right directions.
Shockingly good. I'm a NY pizza snob. Â The crust was delicious. perfect. We had the margherita pie although we contemplated the vegan (we usually are except when it comes to pizza). In the end, the traditional was what we wanted. Â Again, perfect crust, wonderful olive flavor and fresh ingredients. Â Next time I'm getting a regular ole pizza with the sauce and cheese. Â It is pricey though but worth the excursion.
Review Source:Driving back to C-ville from points south, we promised ourselves pizza as a reward for the long car ride. As a semi-regular visitor to the area, Dr. Ho's is always on the list of places to stop. It's never disappointed.
Tonight's meal was pretty simple... a caesar salad and the Italian Staillion pie: red sauce, fresh mozz, roasted tomatoes, portabello shrooms, and meatballs. Sounds like too many toppings, right? Not here. These pizza guys are the real deal, and everything's doled out in just the right amounts. Crust is thin, but toothsome, with a shatteringly crisp outer ring and perfect center. We couldn't resist taking home a slice of the house-made hot milk cake with coconut for later.
The vibe is very casual, with just a few house rules, including no fussing, no cell phones, and parents please keep your kids out of the way of the servers and other guests. There's a nice selection of bottled beers for just $4.50. Service is friendly and efficient...just a little harried as they try to please the throngs inside and those waiting at the door.
Honestly- we landed at Dr. Ho's after reading Yelp reviews. It totally lived up to the hype. The pizza was delicious (we had the Jolly Rasta) and the atmosphere was fun. I was honestly surprised that the paper plate wallpaper mentioned in one of the reviews meant that the wallpaper was actually paper plates... fun!
Review Source:Stumbled upon this hole in the wall during a wine tasting trip: pretty darn good pizza! Â
The base and sauce is fresh, fantastic, and perfect. Â Some of the pizza types are intriguingly different. Â Loved the 3 meats one (can't remember what it was called but didn't care for the Crayfish/Andouille one--I think it would work better if the crayfish were somehow blended into the pizza (or sauce) better so it doesn't taste like you are eating something that is occasionally overpowered by cray fish.
Service is a bit inattentive, but pleasant. Â The decor is very interesting and could keep you busy for a while--it has a very college hangout place feel!
It is pretty good pizza and well worth the stop.
The ambience here is fun... you can wait for your pizza while reading the hilarious posters and signs on the walls. The pizza here is excellent, with many options even for my lactose intolerant friends :) A word of warning though... the crust is thin, so if you order extra toppings like I did, then the pizza slices may fall apart on you. As long as you are okay with using a knife and fork (or waiting a couple minutes for the cheese to cool down and solidify a little), this should be fine though. Just wish they delivered!
Review Source:My all-time favorite pizza place. Â The food here is one indulgent flavor explosion after another. Â My favorites: the cheese bread (the size of a pizza), Bellissima pizza, root beer and marinara and ranch sauces. Â I tried a salad once and didn't care for it. Â The music is usually great. Â The location and ambiance make Dr. Ho's the perfect escape for students needing a break from C'ville.
Get a frequent visitor card before you leave, and make sure you get REALLY good directions with landmarks or mileage--if you blink, you'll miss it.
I came to Dr. Ho's Humble pie after a friend let me try some leftover Bellissima pizza that she had brought back from her recent hiking trip. I immediately fell in love with the personality of the space. I'm not a big ambiance over food kind of person, but the restaurant had an awesome feel to it. The bathroom is really cute with its paper plate wallpaper. A couple of guys at the next table over ordered nachos, which I was not-so-subtley eyeing the entire time I was waiting for my food. I'm definitely getting the nachos next time...
Now onto the food:
The Fat and Sassy: I ordered this by accident, thinking it was a small french bread with some cheese and garlic on it. Imagine my surprise when an entire pizza-sized piece of crust came my way covered with cheddar and mozzarella cheese and roasted garlic. It was a very happy surprise. The garlic melded with the cheese in a magical way, and the house-made ranch dressing on the side was truely the best ranch dressing I had ever had. Since I was there by myself, I ended up eating all fat and sassy-like for the next three days. Best leftovers ever.
Bellissima: I kind of knew what I was getting into by ordering this pizza since I had the leftovers, but it was even better fresh out of the oven, with the arugula on top. I will say, though, I was completely charmed by the Fat and Sassy by the time the pizza made it to the table. While I enjoyed it, I think I would order another pizza the next time I visit since it was pretty pricy (over $20 for one pie). Dont let me get you wrong, though. The ham is perfect and all the toppings are wonderful. It comes with arugula on top, which was delicious by itself, but I didn't find that it added much to the pizza.
Definitely can't wait to come back for The Fat and Sassy and nachos.
This place is the perfect dive pizza place. Â The decorations and staff give it character. Â They have live music sometimes and make sure to check out the bathroom. Â The thin, chewy crust gives the pizza just enough backbone to support the intriguing, fresh toppings. The popeye is delicious (get roasted garlic cloves on your pizza if your gf will let you). Â Out of the famous C-ville pizza spots (Dr. Ho's, Crozet, Mellow, Christian's), Dr. Ho's is tops.
Review Source:Dr. Ho's is worth a trip out of the way. Â They have a good beer selection, and fresh, interesting toppings. Â My fave was the special Bellisima, which had arugula and virginia ham (sliced thin, almost like proscuitto) on top. Â Save room for icebox cake for dessert! Â Pizza can get pricey, depending on how many toppings you put on it.

This is a good pizza place. Good, fresh, ingredients from local sources. Hand-tossed pizzas made by folks who obviously care about their pizza. We ordered a pizza with half Don Juan and half Humble Pie. I thought the crust was very good with a nice crustiness to it. However with the amount of toppings in this particular pizza, I think a slightly thicker crust would have held up all the toppings a little better. I thought the zesty sauce was very good and it was great that there was enough of it. The toppings on both the Don Juan and Humble Pie were very tasty and fresh. Overall, I think it was a good pizza, although I think a little tweak in the balance between dough (more) and toppings (less) could help. I will go back and try a simpler pizza like the margherita next time. Worth the short drive from C'ville.
Probably the best pizza joint in Charlottesville, even though is 8 miles south!
The eclectic atmosphere is fun, even if the seating is way too limited - just means that if you can get in, you're golden,
The pizza margharita is superb, and the Buddha is pretty good.
The beer selection is definitely s plus too.
If Dr. Ho is really a doctor, then I like what he's prescribing!
Warning: The Hot and Sassy is dangerous if you order it as an appetizer. Â Don't O.D. on it - save room for your main pizza.
We had the MARGHERITA BELLISIMA which is generously topped with arugula. Â Friggin' delicious!
North Garden, Virginia? Â who would've thought...
This place is definitely worth the drive from Charlottesville!
I love their huge, unique pizzas and the funky decorations inside the restaurant. The "fat and sassy' appetizer cheesy bread is a must try. It is absolutely huge, and basically looks and tastes like an amazing cheese pizza. Crozet pizza, eat your heart out.
Best pizza around, and they have a great beer selection. Try the Margherita pizza with Hoegarden. Fantastic.
They also have good live music most weeknights. Not too loud, like some places downtown. Makes for a great atmosphere
The only drawback is that it's a tiny place, so you might have to wait or squeeze into a smaller table than you might prefer. It's worth it, though.
We love Dr. Ho's pizza! They have a light, tasty whole-wheat crust that I would definitely recommend, and the sauce is perfectly tangy! It's a little out of the way if you spend all of your time in Charlottesville, but I'd encourage you to make that trek down 29S to the Crossroads in North Garden and try the pizza. I spent a lot of time in Scottsville and would occasionally stop in with friends or pick up a pizza to bring home.
