I had heard about the Hound since it's opening a year and a half ago, but hadn't found myself in the Auburn area--until last night.
My husband, sister, seven cousins and I made the trek down from Lake Martin for the finest dining experience the area has to offer. And it did NOT disappoint. Having spent my last 10 years in San Francisco, New York and now Nashville--a culinary destination in its own right--I feel I have pretty high standards for restaurants. And the Hound surpassed them all.
While the Hound is known for its burgers, we had grilled out on the lake the previous two nights (burgers and steaks) so I wanted something different. We had the homemade cream cheese and pepper jelly appetizer (fantastic), the pork rinds (delicious) and then I went for the pork chop as the main, a recommendation from the owner. O. M. G. It was the best pork chop of my life, bar none, dressed up with onion jam and lain atop a bed of polenta and green beans. My husband had Mama Kate's Meat Loaf and several of our group ordered the Bison Burger. If the silence that resulted as we gobbled up all of our plates was any sign, everyone was happy with his/her choice.
But don't forget to save room for dessert. Even though we were already going to have to waddle home as full as we all were, since we had such a large group, we were able to order and share several desserts. My favorite would have to be the bread pudding with the bourbon caramel sauce, but I was also quite partial to the apple pie.
The Hound also has a great bar scene with 20+ beers on tap, dozens of fine bourbons, cocktails, wine and the like. There's live music some nights (a cover charge if you weren't already eating there for dinner), and they're adding a coffee shop, which will debut in August.
As someone who grew up going down to Auburn for games, I'd say the Hound definitely filled a void missing in the local dining scene, and I'm glad to see it's so beloved already by the local community. We will be back--hopefully at some point for the amazing brunch the Hound offers, complete with $1 mimosas. Yum....
This is and has been a personal favorite for food, drink, meeting friends or clients. They change up the menu a couple of times per year and rarely, if ever, do they have a "miss."
My only knock against them, and it's not enough compared to all the great things they do, is they don't have Guinness on tap. Otherwise, they feature rotating beers which rivals the selection of all but a Taco Mac or Yard House.
You must try the pork rinds, scotch eggs, pork belly sliders, BTA sandwich and the chili when it is in season!
My favorite place to eat in Auburn. Having moved from Atlanta, this place reminds me of somewhere I would have been known by name in Decatur, GA. Great, trendy atmosphere - perfect for the hipster in all of us. Half price bottles of wine on Tuesday nights. The bread pudding? Um...amazing. And free on Tuesday nights with the purchase of 2 entrees. Burger is great. Bacon, turkey, and avocado sandwich is amazing (I like to add a little cheese). My husband can't get enough of the meatloaf sandwich (careful, it's got a little kick). The only "meh" thing I've had is the Hot Chick sandwich. The chicken was dry which made the whole sandwich dry. I definitely wouldn't get that again but I love this place enough that it's not impacting my review or my desire to return again...and again...and again. Also the only place in Auburn that I've found a decent brunch (Waffle House doesn't count).
Review Source:One of the best hidden secrets of Auburn. Great food and the best burger in town (that's right, it's not at Niffers.) Awesome selection of alcohol as well. Full bar and a heck of a craft beer selection. The waitress brought me a sampler of the beers and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Just a cool place to eat and hangout.
Review Source:Thinking about this place makes me hungry.

burgers

The atmosphere and decor are pretty top notch. It's a fun place.
The service is up and down. Sometimes fantastic... a few times, you start wondering if the waiter was smoking more than a cigarette outside.
We've gone to Bloodhound about four times now, for breakfast and  for lunch. We were really excited because we heard the owners were from California and we've missed all of the great restaurants since we've moved  here.
The atmosphere is pretty cool - kind of urban meets Southern - and the woodwork is gorgeous. The chairs take away a bit from the good style in there, but they do their job - and I Â noticed they did add some much-welcomed booths. Some lighting above the tables in the middle of the room would help center it a bit. But, overall, it has a nice warehouse meets barn feel and it's a nice atmosphere.
The breakfast is great and the prices for brunch on Saturdays and Sundays are perfect! Really reasonable and good portions. The lunch was also reasonably priced with a nice selection. For dinner, expect to spend more, but on some pretty nice dishes.
BTW, great breakfast items are the hash and the benedict.
Definitely go and check it out. Auburn needed Bloodhound, and I'm so glad it's here!
$1 MIMOSAS ON SUNDAYS?? So we ordered 6.
Portions are huge! I came here for a brunch and ordered the benedict while my boyfriend ordered the steak and eggs. For $30, we paid for 2 dishes and 6 mimosas. Sounds good to me.
The benedict was delicious of course with the bacon being the best part. The steak wasn't so great but the breakfast potatoes were good. The service is impeccable. You feel like it's the restaurant's goal in life to make sure you have the best day possible. I love it.
Bloodhounds is definitely worth going to. It has a some unique Southern food items on the menu - homemade pork rinds, a good pimento cheese appetizer, rabbit sausage, and great biscuits. Â We went for Sunday brunch and I had the Redneck Benedict. Â I thought for the small price we paid as compared to similar restaurants, it is a great value.
Great locally owned restaurant is a uniquely restored building. Â Much better than the previous two restaurants in this location. Â Looking forward to heading back for dinner soon!
I was truly excited about going to Bloodhound last night. But ewwwww what a bad experience.
The decor itself is very cool: rustic, open, good energy, simple but at the same time offering lots of visual appeal.
The menu was interesting with a variety of options which were all in the proper theme of the restaurant. Wild Game sausage, Bison Burger, Trout,
But, the service and execution of out orders was totally bad! Our server/bartender seemed very busy being busy. There was not nearly as much going on as he was pretending to be caring for... Anyway, we ordered the "Wild Game Sausage Platter" app- it sure did look good on the menu. My son ordered the Bison Burger (served with sauteed mushrooms, grilled onions) I had the basic burger with add on condiments Heirloom Tomatoes (.50) and Bacon (2.00) I asked for the burger medium and the bacon crisp.
In an appropriate amount of time for the app to come out, the manager brought over our burgers. I asked him to make sure we were not charged for the app we ordered because I did not want it after the main course. He responded nicely and apologized for the mis-cue.
The Bison Burger was really good. The bison had just the right "gamey" taste and texture to set it apart from a regular burger.
My "Basic Burger" was a disaster. The "medium" burger was barely cooked- Very rare.
The bacon which I had requested "crisp" was scorched. Later, when I looked at the check, the server had ordered the bacon "as done as you can get it"
After our food came, we were totally ignored by the bartender/server. I finally had to ask another bartender to get our check. No one bothered to ask about my barely touched burger. I decided it was not worth the effort to complain.
Cool place, I just won/t be going back.
I've visited Bloodhound two additional times since my first visit and have thus updated my rating.
The 2nd visit was for brunch after church on Sunday. Pretty decent service and good food. Its been a while so I don't remember the specifics but I left very satisfied.
Today's visit was great. I tried the lunch menu and got the Farmer John or whatever the vegetarian sandwich was on the menu. It was excellent. The bread was soft and delicious, the veggies were fresh. Tomatoes, avocado, radishes, onions, lettuce and mushrooms. Out of this world good. Service was also very quick and efficient. My companions also had good things to say about their meals.
I'm a fan and would be back!
If you don't like this place then you don't like bacon, and if you don't like BACON then there's something wrong with you!!
Seriously though, I've been to this place so many times since it opened and the only way to describe it is to quote my friend after eating the 50/50 burger: "It's the truth man."
GO HERE, you won't regret it :)
I am a child who has been born in to the restaurant business.  My mother and father have owned and operated several very successful restaurants all over New England for the last 40 years.  All I have ever asked from an experience is a great environment, excellent and personable service, and a quality of food that rolls socks up and down with every bite.  This is hard feat to achieve, however, in my personal and very humble opinion, Bloodhound does this... at least for me...  the classic and rustic décor brings a sense of relaxation after a long day, the engaging staff is knowledgeable about both food and drink, quick to offer a smile and a handshake with every visit.  The food I believe speaks for itself with a menu that is highly unique and "brave" to the Auburn community.  In house cured meats, wholesome and hearty classic dishes, and love put into every thing to cross from the kitchen into the dining room. Â
I fully recommend Bloodhound with all my heart to the young professional who finishes their day and wants a delicious bite and cocktail, to an expert who appreciates a perfect top shelf pour, or the outside the box thinking college couple - perfect for date night - looking for excellent music, high gravity beer, and a night of relaxation. Â Honestly, this is my favorite and best experience in Auburn - other than Game Day... Enjoy!
The Bloodhound has real potential. Located in the former Ale House building (literally facing into a parking garage---hooray for city planning!), it's got a hipster-hunt-club vibe. Lots of animal horns, lots of wood.
The good news is the food. We went for lunch, and I got the This Little Piggy, which is a bacon, roasted tomato, and cheddar grilled cheese. Nice, thick-cut bacon, and the roasted tomatoes meant that you got all the ballin' tomato flavor even though it's not their season yet. My co-diner got a corn dog, which came with a pretty awesome spicy mustard dipping sauce. The fries were shoestring and a little soggy for my taste, but they had a nice flavor. The house salad was pretty much just mixed greens and a vinaigrette---the dinner menu mentioned a salad with gorgonzola and some other veg so hopefully that would make for a better all-around dish. Each of our lunches was $8, which frankly seems a little low for the size and quality of the meals, but I'm not gonna complain.
The bad news is the service, and I'm hoping this is just the result of it being the restaurant's first week open. Slow, not that friendly, and generally confused about the goings-on of a restaurant, but again, hopefully in awhile this will get sorted and The Bloodhound will take off. We need more restaurants like it in Auburn! I'm looking forward to trying them for dinner once they've settled in.
