Howlin' Javelina

I ended up at the Howlin' Javelina with a friend of mine sheerly due to a detour and what a great detour it was. The place was rather dead, but it was around noon on a Saturday and this is watering hole not an eating joint! Right as we walked in, we were greeted by the absolutely adorable owners Dik and Marilyn. Dik steered us in a more scenic route for our motorcycle ride and Marilyn was very hospitable and told me all about the area and the good beers they had on the menu. I had the blue berry beer, wild Blue, which was a bit sweet for me but good. The building is very old but has great architectural charm with the high tin ceiling and wooden floors, which makes you feel as if you are in an old West saloon. I will never role through Miami, AZ again without stopping in to this wonderful gem.

The Howlin' Javelina is a small bar that opened on Sullivan Street in October 2008. Owned by Dik and Marilyn Mickle, it's pumped some life into old downtown Miami.

The bar itself is cozy, with a pool table, big screen TVs, plenty of seating, and a small stage for live music. The building has the charm of the architecture of its age, with a tin roof, old style mirrored bar, and a well worn but attractive wooden floor. The bathrooms, available to customers only, are recently redone and nicer than the ones in my house.

The bar serves beer, wine, a wide variety of sodas and teas, as well as a lot of local color. It's a great place to stop when passing through Miami or for a rest after visiting local antique stores.
