Huggin' Molly's is a great place to visit if you find yourself on US 431 near Abbeville. Â The building has been restored to resemble an old fashioned restaurant and soda fountain. Several of the buildings on the same block and throughout the town have also been restored to resemble something out of the 1950's. We ate there during the evening and walked around the town before and after dinner. The 1950's style store fronts and the deserted sidewalks made the experience a bit surreal.
The food was actually pretty good. I had a burger and fries and sampled some of the chicken pot pie and onion rings. All were good and hot! I would definitely visit again the next time I drive through the area.
Cannot rate the food as service was terrible, waited 45 minutes for a BLT and a plate of cheddar biscuts, they never came and we left. it was a busy on 7 Apr at 1pm. The restaurant was very clean and well decorated, the food that was delivered to the other tables looked plentyful, well prepared and didn't hear anyone complain. Guess Molly decided that kin folk of the Riley family didn't need to eat and misplaced our order. The rating of two stars is based solely on the service and I'm sure if I decide to drive the 2 hours and try Huggin Molly's out again I'll be able to give a higher rating. Ihope Molly understands and doesn't find her way to Columbus Ga to give me a big hug and scream in my ear.
Review Source:Let me say this first , GREAT FOOD and CUStOMER SERVICE!
If  you go through this town add a quick stop over to eat lunch or dinner. They actually cook there instead of it coming in bags , etc. like chain eateries.
Great onion rings, fried green tomatoes, pickles. Delicious cheese grits and Mac &cheese. I normally get the steak, bake potato, and southern style green beans, but I always get onion rings.
There is something for everyone.
This restaurant that takes you bake 50-100 years into the past.
Atmosphere: Â The building is 100+ years old and made of brick. Â The waitress (Debi) told me that the restaurant building had served as a drug store, doctors office, and restaurant during its 100+ years of use. Â
The owner collected hundred of antique posters and memorabilia that is displayed-very cool.
The place even has an early 20th century soda fountain that still works.
Food: Â Rich and hearty southern cooking that definitely isn't designed for those on a diet. Â We tried the appetizer and seafood sampler platter that provided a good overview of their seafood and appetizer menu. Â Every dish had it's own home-made dipping sauce. Â Really loved the fried pickles.
Service: Â Very good. Â The kitchen made a mistake on another customer's dessert order, and asked us if we wanted to eat the brownie sundae at no cost instead of throwing the food away. Â It was very nice of them to offer that dessert at no cost.
my favorite kind of restaurant - a local hole in the wall, reminds me a lot of Brightstar. Â Very friendly staff and wonderful ambience of an old style diner. Â Tonight was a dinner for a prom group and it was very loud. Â The food - we had the special - grilled chix with dirty rice and broccoli with cheese sauce. Â the chix was grilled well and was moist, was a bit small on portion size, the rice was good, the broccoli was 3 pieces with cheese sauce - no seasoning. Â the food was drizzled with balsamic reduction sauce and raspberry reduction, the latter was too sweet. Â dessert was a blondie with icecream - the blondie was good the icecream too sugary. Â overall 4 stars due to the wonderful service and people working there.
Review Source:We stopped in here for lunch after hearing how great the place was. Â We started off with some fried dill pickles. They were OK, not great, they could have used some type of seasoning as the batter had none. I got chicken fingers and fries. Â The price was very good the fingers, fries and the drink was only $5. The atmosphere was great and the food was just OK. We may give it another try when we are that way again.
Review Source:We stopped here on our way back to Atlanta from Florida. It was worth the mile or two it is off the main highway. Â The service was great and the decorations made it feel like a real 50's diner. Â They have fried pickles, sweet potato fries, homemade potato chips, old fashioned cherry coke and vanilla coke. Â The food was great!
Review Source:Abbeville is a small town and we didn't see many places to eat. Well after heading downtown we saw Huggin Molly's and it looked inviting. As soon as you walk in it looks like a throwback 50's diner. They have memorabilia from yesteryear and everyone is smiling and super friendly. Â They have a long bar where they serve fountain drinks and desert which looked cool and retro. Upon taking us in the back to where more tables were the places looks like some elegant restaurant. Cloth napkins are set at every table and old frame posters and wall art from years ago. Â Huggin Molly was also featured in Southern Living magazine. Â
Since it was around 3PM and we were gonna eat later, we got appetizers and some sandwiches. Â I ordered the fried green tomato sandwich and is soooo good! The come back Molly sauce was very tasty and the tomatoes were done just right. They came with homemade chips that were crispy and light. Â The sweet potato fries with honey butter were perfect. Â Later that night I had the country fried steak and it was tasty but a little salty for my tasty. The sweet potato was huge and skin just came off the sweet potato like nothing. Â If I ever stop back in Abbeville this is where I'll come to eat.
