This place has really gone downhill over the past few years. Â The quality of food isn't up to par. Â The last two times I've been, my meal arrived lukewarm at best. Â Even when the place is nearly empty, it takes FOREVER for your food to get served. Â I don't know if the kitchen is the hold up or the wait staff or both. Â
The service is dreadful. Â Takes ages to get your food, refills, to get checked on, and especially to get your bill and cash out. Â Do not come here if you have any sort of time constraint!
Wow. What a disappointment.
My friends had been talking about going to the Hunt Club and talked it up highly after going there for lunch a couple weeks ago. I was in town for the weekend, so we went on a Friday night for dinner - the atmosphere was great, but the food and service was AWFUL! Â
Three of the four of our meals (all fish) were cold. My deep-fried cod was RAW. When we alerted our server to this, she took the meals back to the kitchen. Since we were seated by the kitchen, we watched the cook put our meals in the microwave to warm them. If you've ever had deep-fried fish before, you know that this is a no-no. The fish came back and was just a god-awful raw, rubbery and greasy mess. Unfortunately, our server put our plates down and dashed, never to be seen again. We had to ask a bus boy for a manager.
The manager gave us 25% off of our meals and offered free dessert. I told her that we  weren't ready for dessert when our meals had been inedible. She offered nothing other than the 25% off and that she'd "talk to her cooks about the preparation of the meal."
Unfortunately, even after the discount, our bill still came to $60 for inedible food. What a waste. I won't be visiting the Hunt Club in Jackson again.
Good food and service. Â This Hunt Club in Jackson has a neat interior that feels like a cabin with a large fireplace in the center. Â They also have a game room for the kids, or drinking adults. Â Kind of dark, but nice.
The menu has not changed a lot over the years, so they still have many of my favorites. Â I like the Wiley Potato which is a large over-stuffed potato with ground beef, mushrooms, onion, and cheese. Â I also like going there for lunch because they have good daily specials.
Overall this is a great place for cocktails after work, or for a good lunch or dinner in a casual atmosphere.
I have been here a couple of times.
I have had the Dagwood sandwich once before and it is A LOT of sandwich.
Only order this is your are prepared to eat it and take a while to digest.
You may want to share it with more than one person if you are that eager to try it. It is definitely worth trying.
The Dale's Dills are a must.
(Beer Battered Deep Fried Pickles....enough said).
There is not a huge beer selection, but you have your choice between a large or small glass....the small glass, in the end, is a better deal.
There is a full bar.
The servers are great.
Jen & Rhonda have been fantastic and attentive. They make my dining experience here a whole lot of fun every time!
They also have Club Keno on TVs which appears to be popular with the locals.
I have visited the Hunt Club on several occasions now and am always severely underwhelmed.
The food is okay. Â Very standard sandwiches and burgers. the sandwiches are in general very large, but they should be for their average $9.99 a sandwich price. Â In my opinion everything in there is priced a little too high for what it is. Â Its typical bar and grill food, there are no real standouts or twists. Â Everything I've had here has been good but nothing has been great.
The by far low point is, as someone else said, the waitstaff. The last time I was there was with a large group and out waitress was completely MIA. Â There were many times that someone in our group wanted to order something and she was no where to be found. Â I can only imagine the amount of money lost by the missed drink refilling. Â My husband even joked at one point that we could have easily walked out on out $60 bill and know one would have even noticed. Â The place is lucky we are honest people or we very well could have. Â
I will probably end up there again, as the options for large groups in Jackson are limited, but I doubt it will ever be somewhere I will be super excited to go to.
The Hunt Club has been the main bar/restaurant in Jackson for years. Â It has a large game room for kids. Â It is quite a large place so it can accomodate large groups. Â The food is good but not great. Â It's a typical midwest menu so if you're a vegetarian then go somewhere in Ann Arbor because there isn't much for you except maybe cheese pizza, a potato, soup, or a salad. Â I recommend the steak bites or the dagwood.
Anyone from Jackson knows where this place is as it is also a popular nightlife spot. Â There is no dancing but there are several areas including a pizza parlour bar in the back. Â It's generally a decent crowd and the hoodlums don't really venture in here as much as they do other places.
Service is sub par in my opinion. Â If you know the bartender then you'll get taken care of but other than that they are pretty slow. Â I've never had to wait too long for a meal at a table though.
It's worth a visit. Â The atmosphere is good but the bar service is slow and the food is average.
Having lunch with friends & relatives here is a good idea. There's an arcade for the children to play in. They have three bars for nightlife, plenty of seating, and the food is tasty.
I ordered the "Dagwood". It's three slices of bread and a huge sandwich. It breaks down like this:
Bread
Mayo
Lettuce
Tomato
Bacon
Turkey
Swiss Cheese
Bread
Mayo
Lettuce
Bacon
Ham
Cheddar Cheese
Bread
I finished half of it, and had plenty for leftovers. The servers are very friendly, and get things done quick!
The Hunt Club is a great place to come with friends, especially in groups and is certainly unique for Jackson. Â The interior is a lush hunting lounge, with games for the kiddies on one side and a rustic central fireplace to survive those cold winter nights in Michigan. Â Needless to say, this place is popular! Â That said, do not come here to eat if you are vegetarian or vegan. Â Likewise, do not eat here if you have anything against eating like a proud bachelor. Â
Nearly every sauce is served in a single serving, factory sealed portion. Â They taste fine, but you will be peeling the lid off your salsa. Â The nacho cheese sauce is a close relative of nacho cheez-whiz, warmed and poured into a dip bowl. Â The butter and sour cream for your potato are all safely sealed in foil, too. Â Thus, it is proud bachelor food! Â Tasty, but not classy.
Vegetarians, be warned that there are dead mounded animals and heads all around. Â After all, it's called The Hunt Club. Â Vegetarian options include a range of fried appetizers, or ... now I'm not kidding here... a baked potato or burrito filled with STIR FRY VEGGIES. Â It's as gross as it sounds; my spouse had the burrito and although it looked pretty, it is not fun to eat a tex-mex burrito filled with snow peas. Â I specifically asked for a potato with just cheese and broccoli and the waitress had to find out if they had broc. Â They do. Â I suggest that option if you are veg and must eat here. Â Please, Hunt Club, just buy a couple of boxes of Boca Burger's Prime Grillers and keep 'em in the freezer for the occasional, sad little vegetarian who comes in with their friends or family. Â I asked the waitress for help on veg items, and she did not mention the pizza that the other reviewer had...so we didn't try that or even notice it.
Ok, so for the meat eaters, here is the word from the friends we dined with. Â The club sammies are HUGE and come in a basket with thick, tasty fries. Â The cheese sticks are yummy, but served in a huge basket that dwarfs them. Â Beer is a natural here, so drink up. Â Baked potatoes are kinda small, and fit for a small lunch. Â The Deer's Ears appetizers were disappointing as they are just scooped out tater halves, baked, with a cup of nacho cheez-whiz for dipping. Â Steak got the thumbs up. Â Generally service was great, although our large group (20+) overwhelmed our waitress. Â That said, I was shocked to learn we had no reservation but they were able to seat and serve our group without problems. Â
Bathrooms are clean and attractive. Â The venue is very handicapped accessible, with tables near the restrooms to make it all the easier if you're on wheels. Long front ramp ensures easy entry, so no worries. Â Our chairs had no arms, so they're also suitable for larger customers. Â Booths are available, too, as are taller bistro style bar tables and chairs. Â Yes, this place is huge.
I suppose by Jackson MI standards, this is an okay place. Kinda smoky & local-yocal-ish. Decent food, fairly cheap drinks, but poor service. Went here for a work holiday party last night. The room was dark 10 minutes before the party, heat was not even on. The servers were overworked for our group. The pizza & breadsticks were the lone shining star. Very good for sure. Probably not going to go out of my way to go here again, but if I am in the neighborhood...maybe.
