Calling this place an "ale house" might be the biggest problem. What's the deal with this place? Is it a pirate bar? Wine bar? Music bar? Or ale house? We went for beers because its an "ale house" the beer list was on a receipt. I didn't expect much from this place, so I wasn't too disappointed. The place was dead on a Saturday night.
Review Source:Read the other reviews...don't know what they're talking about. Small menu, but don't let it scare you...order a pizza... And freaking enjoy. Group of four, four different pizzas...heaven. Â Excellent crust, excellent toppings, awesome beer selection. Â Waitress was attentive and super cool. Â Come here already. Â Can't say enough about the pizza, seriously.
Review Source:The only good thing about this place is when they have live music on the weekends. The business was formerly known as "Coco Joe's" but the name has since changed to "Hunter's Ale House." Â For it being an ale house, the servers know absolutely nothing about beer. I've had several servers now that don't even know what they have on draft, let alone how to describe it to a beer drinker. The only good worker that i have experienced so far is the actual bartender, Dave. He knows his stuff and is always on the ball, no matter how busy he gets. The last time I went there for live music, the kid who was checking ID's at the door had to simultaneously hold his dip cup, not take a break from spitting in it, and check ID's at the same time. It was disgusting. And when we told the manager about it, he just explained that he didn't care because it was slow and a Saturday. In fact, it was fairly busy AND it was Friday. Also, when it started as Coco Joe's, it had dueling pianos and set a great atmosphere for the place. It was nice to be able to host a party there and get serenaded by pianists who had no problem playing to and for the crowd. Since then they have done away with the dueling pianos and changed the whole feel of the place. It used to be a pirate themed bar as Coco Joe's, but now they've just added more TV's and have only taken down SOME of the pirate decorations, but added some other useless crap to the walls...if you ask me the owner had too much money and didn't know what to do with it. So now I guess it's a pirate/sport/wine/mardi gras bar? The owner of this place is the same owner of The Cabin and The Wayside/O' Kelly's, which are a couple other college/townie bars. It seemed like the owner tried something new and as soon as it didn't get the results they wanted, they went ahead and conformed to all of their other bars, so now they have douche-bag establishment number 3. If I didn't enjoy the live acoustic music, I'd never go back. If you want a truly mediocre experience, I'd say definitely try this place out.
