Wine tasting $12 for 4 tastes of whatever they're serving. Â I loved this place and the people that worked here. Â They even carry the Idylwild wines. Â Cool huh? Â We sat outside on a beautiful mountain day. Â I'm not sure that there are any un-beautiful mountain days. Â Nonetheless, we enjoyed the clean air and bright wines to accompany my tasting on their patio. Â the area is kind of small so if you want to sit outside, you may need to try to beat the crowds. Â You don't have the best view, unfortunately, but you do have fresh air to breath. Â That really goes well with wine. ;-) Â
So the way they work it, which I find adorable, is they give you 4 of their wood tokens and you redeem them as you go. Cute. Â Works much better than punch cards that I have seen, or having to make the guys behind the bar remember which pour you're on. Â Plus, the tokens themselves are these rustic wood coins with their name and logo on them. Â Perfect for a wine shop in that area!
So, if you find yourself in the mountains, you should at least pop in for a taste.
Came in during Thanksgiving weekend.
Greeted by friendly staff, we had our dogs so they pointed out the patio that had a very comfty couch. Unfortunately it was a VERY cold night in Idyllwild so we had one glass & headed home.
The atmosphere inside looked very "happy", even the customers & locals were super friendly.
Will definitely come back.
I am no wine connoisseur but I did really enjoy this place. It may not be a place I'd recommend driving all the way out to Idyllwild for (I'll leave that to the real wine connoisseurs) but I will definitely come back here the next time I stay in Idyllwild.
As for most places in Idyllwild, I recommend checking what days they are open and planning on when you'll go. I think their hours may change seasonally, depending on the tourism. My girlfriend and I went in on a Monday night and they were open until 8 pm. We arrived at 7 pm and were the only people there. The two people working that night were both very accommodating and let us go through their vinyl collection and put on our record of choice. However, they didn't have any Radiohead so I'll be bringing my own next time.
We each had a glass of their house red and we had their cheese and fruit plate. It was all very delicious. They had a huge wine and beer selection, so if you're not a fan of wine but like beer, you're in luck.
To sum it all up: Everything we had was delicious. The employees were very nice to talk to and knowledgeable on wine. I loved the look and layout of the place. And I would definitely come back and recommend it to anyone passing through Idyllwild.
Was staying in idyllwild for a couple of days. I got a voucher for two free glasses of wine from the place I was staying at. I decided to give this place a try. They have a good selection of wine and couple of beers. They have a lot of little appetizers not full meals which is just fine with me. Friendly folks and great atmosphere! My partner and I tried the cheese tasting for two to go with our wine. Â We also tried their tomato pie which was delicious. I would definitely recommend this place if you want somewhere to hang out and sip on some wine and relax. If your in town visiting give this place a try.
Review Source:This place has the benefit of staying open later than most other shops in Idyllwild, so we spent some time here pre- and post- dinner one night. The staff is friendly and the selection is good (for both wine and beer). If it's cold out and they're offering it, try the mulled wine! It's sweet like cider.
Review Source:Worth returning to in Idyllwild. We stopped in for a light meal and the wine tasting. The flatbread was good, and the cheese plate was fine. The list of wines to try was big, and we were told it changes weekly. While we didn't find anything great in the wines we tasted, that wouldn't stop me from returning.
What I realized after we ordered was that this wine shop has a great beer selection, too. Next time I'll get the beer tasting instead. The man behind the counter was knowledgeable and fun to chat with about the wine and beer. He even pulled out a cool book about beer that we browsed and discussed.
If I could only recommend one place in Idyllwild, it would be this place--without a doubt.
Great relaxed atmosphere and tasty food selections. Not for a full meal but some food to accompany your wine or beer choice.
I had the pork sliders and a couple different beers. The pork was well prepared and tasted great. Served with chips and a small serving of cole slaw. Really good! Enough for a small meal. The beer selection was nice and I had 2 beers (a porter and an ale) that I hadn't heard of or tried before. Oh yeah, they serve wine too! ;-)
I went after the Idyllwild Jazz Festival to hear a Jazz Harp and Bass Duo (Lori Andrews & Bart Bart Samolis). Great music in a relaxed, casual atmosphere. The music, food & drink selection, and friendly patrons made for a great evening.
We had nothing to eat or dink here but have to say how much we love it anyway! We stopped in looking for salad, but they do not have any. We had had our fill of wine for the day already so it seemed we should move on and try somewhere else. YET, even after it was clear we were not a match for their establishment that night, the two gentlemen were incredibly warm and sweet. They suggested Cafe Aroma up the road, and we did go and had a great experience there too. What great neighbors! Will def try again next time.
Review Source:Warm, welcoming service upon arrival and throughout the night.  I can't say enough about the friendly people working here. Live music was entertaining.  My friend and I had paninis and the artichoke dip and shared a bottle of wine.  The dip was quite good.  The panini  (ham and cheese) was so-so, but was served with stale potato chips.  The chips were my only real complaint.  The wine was fabulous and we enjoyed our night here.  I will go back.
Review Source:So this little gem is in the small town of Idyllwild. Â Very friendly staff and good service. Â I liked their choice in wine and bought a few bottles to take home with me. Â I love this little town. Â Seems like it's from the movies. Â Would love to spend a few days and drink some more wine.
Review Source:If you are in Idyllwild, you MUST stop by this wine shop and bistro! The ambience, the love, the feeling of being with old friends is what you will encounter. Tucked away on top of a beautiful mountain, I have NEVER (and this is no exaggeration) gone into an establishment and felt more at home than I did when I walked into this Bistro. Piper, who works behind the bar, has the smile of an angel and a genuine spirit of love like no one I have ever met. She makes the experience even more enjoyable. She is knowledgeable in everything wine so please do not miss the opportunity to make new friends who will feel like old friends. I also ordered the cheese and fruit platter that was to die for! It was prepared by Lois, who like Piper, was an angel! I wanted to stay and talk with them all night long! Honestly! Met a lot of the Idyllwild locals and you could tell that living there was like living with your family. Going to this Bistro will make you wish you lived on the mountain! I actually purchased wine from the Bistro so that I will have an excuse to go back for more once I am out! Thank you everyone at Idyll A While Wine Shop & Bistro for making me feel at home...and special hugs to Piper and Lois. You both make the place what it is!
Review Source:Absolutely awesome place. Felt like I was a regular there even tho I was a first timer. Wonderful  service, food, wine selection and more! And the brittle candy is to die for!  Just finished my last bottle of the assortment I purchased while there. Oh yes, the prices are very reasonable so you can bring lots home to tide you over until the next visit. Guess it's time for another trek up the mountain-  so I can Idyll Awhile!!!
Review Source:We happened into this wine bar and bistro today just before leaving Idyllwild. Â It's tucked back in a shopping center in the heart of town--just behind Higher Grounds cafe. Â We stopped in just to take a look around and we were wowed by the lovely bar, great menu, and awesome service. Â Piper and Lois were running the bar, and before we knew it, we were chatting with Piper and two customers, tasting mulled wine, and buying a gorgeous bottle of Malbec. Â
Nice-sized retail bottle selection with some rare treasures and well-loved standards. Â Very reasonable prices. Â Unique by-the-glass and drink menu. Â Good looking bites (special today was a Cuban panini--yum). Â It's worth going in just to chat with Piper, though she may not be there full time (I get the sense she is a full-time screenwriter who was sitting in at the bar as a favor to the owners).
This place opened in June 2010 and is clearly cultivating a loyal local following of wine lovers and generally fun people. Â I hope they do great--Idyllwild needs a fantastic wine bar, and this one fits the bill.
