As I walked into the pub on valentines day, I wondered why there was no line. Where were the people looking to celebrate the night? We had passed up 4 other restaurants due to 2 hour waiting times. Where was everyone?
 Simple.
They were at other restaurants getting actual customer service and not being robbed blindly.
This night in particular, there was a special being offered of an appetizer, two entrees, and a dessert. After waiting 10 minutes and finally getting some beers and an appetizer ( the Irish crisp/fries) practically thrown at us, we eventually were asked what entree we wanted with our valentine's meal special. I went with the blackened salmon, bf went with the sirloin. I asked about a side of boxtys.
Don't do that. They'll treat it like the most special order, then tell you how they won't ever do it again and you should feel DARN privileged that they did it in the first place. Our server made that clear.
( "normally they don't and wont do this in the future but..happy valentines day")
His steak was decent. Nicely cooked to his preference and moist.
My blackened salmon was... Not.
Where there was moisture in the steak, there was dehydration in the salmon. I enjoy salmon and have had many dishes at this restaurant. I shrugged it off (even though it was slow) and tried to save it with some malt vinegar. Didn't work.
It absorbed the liquid and remained awful.
When the server finally appeared I explained how unpleasant the salmon was. He repeatedly asked me to say what was wrong with it, went to get a manager, 5 minutes later the shift manager appeared and did more damage than the fish! After explaining about the number of salmon dishes that had gone out with no complaints, he asked me again "what exactly was wrong with it" Â
At this point he said he would take it off.
Please bear in mind that I have now eaten half an order of fries, some veggies and had a beer.
How much would you say that's worth?
Â
Apparently it's "8.95"
Oh no. Wait, that's all he was able to take off. Â $8.95. (Salmon lists on the menu for $11.95)
I didn't even eat my entree, but I was charged $28 for a side of veggies fries and a small steak.
Oh but that's alright, because the shift manager gave us two free desserts. Never mind the fact that one of them was included in the 36.95 original special.  When I asked about the total, he made another excuse about how he was doing me a favor.
 Let me get this straight.
Poor food.
Awful service
You argue with customers & then practically rob them.
No wonder you were slow on one of the biggest, busiest nights in the winter food service season. After being a loyal patron for many years, I will never come back to this restaurant. The food quality has become so poor, I would save the money and cook myself a high quality meal with high quality ingredients. I would save myself and my wallet the angst of arguing with managers and servers ungrateful for my patronage.
I leave you with the failed attempt at a joke  this shift manager tried to use to lighten the mood.
" can I get anything else for you? Need that beer to go?". Â
Oh no, you and your careless, lackadaisical attitude have done enough.
( I have tried to get past Yelp's filter, but apparently they refuse to show how bad the service is at this place. I hope you read the filtered reviews and see how many stars are under 3.)
I have been a loyal patron of The Pub since their first St. Patrick's Day in 2008. The menu has changed a few times since they've opened, and I gotta say that their current menu is by far the best yet. At any time of the day, evening, or night you can walk in and rest assure you will get the absolute best from them. The food is always consistantly good, and the service staff is always knowledgeable and eager to help if you have any questions about the menu. My personal favorite is their new chicken pesto panini. I know what you're thinking, a panini at an irish pub??? Trust me, it is amazing!
If you are looking for some "nightlife" entertainment, The Pub is always a good time. There is always a special on Friday nights, a DJ, and a tons of great people. Saturdays are similar, except some Saturdays they have UFC fights on the TV's or a band. UFC nights are always awesome! The people that come for those are really cool to hangout and talk with. Oh and on Saturdays, now that Douglasville has changed, they stay open til 2am. Oh, and on Fridays and Saturdays they have a Breakfast buffet at around 1:30am for the late night crowd.
If you're looking for a place to go, at anytime of the day or night, I highly suggest The Irish Bred Pub.
I have eaten several times on the join in Carrollton, and this is my first time here in Dville, and one thing is for sure. THE FOOD IS A-OK. Food is always salty and greasy ... but hey! it's Pub food and that's all there is to it.
I do like the atmosphere. I could see coming back here and hanging out to just get a drink although I am surprised at how servers slack a bit when they find out that you are not eating and just having a drink... they really should be used to this since this is a pub right? This is not a place to have a wonderful meal. I would suggest to go somewhere else if you want good food, but a place to chill? This place is pretty ok.
Awesome little pub. Â Best hangout in downtown Douglasville. Â Food is very good and bands play upstairs. Â Amount of alcohol seems to go down for the same price when a band is playing. Â There was a $5.00 cover charge for a saturday night band but worth it. Â Food is served upstairs during band sessions. Â Place was packed and friendly..
Review Source:Yeah, I'd say there's definitely nothing "Irish" about this place. But the food is solid, particularly for Douglasville (i.e., compared to all those standard chain restaurants everywhere). Went to the upstairs 'club' portion of the bar once; that wasn't quite so impressive. But as food goes, definitely at the top of the list of places to eat out in Douglasville, that I've found so far.
Review Source:I've ate at the Irish Pub a few times ever since it opened and it has been an enjoyable place to eat. When the pub originally opened it had a limited menu that was more catered to Irish tastes, however now the menu has expanded and contains more American style food. Overall the food comes out in large portions, even the sandwiches are giganitc, and are very filling.
As for the Irish part of the pub, its really non-existent. Just because there's a bar, some irish pictures on the wall and some random shamrocks doesn't make it an irish pub. Its resemebalance replicates more of the corporate franchise attempt to create a themed restaurant with ethnic food names for everyday dishes.
Service at the pub has been a mixed bag of both good and bad. Even time I have ate here the pub hasn't been busy. Sometimes the waiting staff will be on top of everything and then there are times where they are slow, occasionally get the order wrong and stand around near the bar conversing.
Mainly I come for the food, but if it wasn't for that I probalby wouldn't make the trip to downtown for some eatting out.
I've been to the Irish Bred Pub twice...the 1st time was about 3 weeks ago on a Saturday an the 2nd time was last Friday. The 1st time I went, I'd just left Taco Mac and me an some random guy went there. He had been there before and it was my 1st time so I didnt know what to expect. It was about after 10pm and we walked straight upstairs to the bar on the 2nd level and there was some band with what was an older crowd that night...The band was ok...the people there were straight too, despite being an older crowd there that particular night. The drinks were fairly priced (about $4 for a bottle of BudLight). The 2nd time I went (last Friday) was a completely different story (it was like a 180). Last Friday me and a friend were drinking at Taco Mac when we decided to go check out Irish Bred Pub, it was about 11 something when we left an I wasnt all that sure about how it would be considering the crowd the 1st time I went. But, when we were walking up the stairs to the dance floor I heard that they were playing rap an I was thinking to myself "ok". Walked up, it was $3 to get in...and the crowd and atmosphere was completely different. I dont know if it was because it was a Friday night and maybe they play different type of music on Fridays, but it was more like a "club" type environment and setting. The crowd was younger (low-mid 20's), some cute girls running around and the music was good (mostly hip-hop and R&B from the DJ). We were drinking and when "Stanky Leg" and "Swag Surfin" started playin I had to get up on do my thing on the dance floor. All-in-all, we had a good time that night....havent tried any of the food there yet, but I have a feeling that I will be eating there. I give it a 3 star so far just from my 1st time going and I havent eaten there yet...who knows, it might get a 4 star if I try and like the food...but so far from personal experience, Friday night is DEFINENTLY the night to go...
Review Source:I have several friends who like this place and have been back only to be congenial, but if left up to me I would not return. Â The first time I tried the fish and chips, and it was so greasy that the breading turned to mush. Â The artichoke dip was reasonably good, but the chips were not. Â Tuna dip was obviously canned tuna. Â Next time around I decided to stay away from anything fried and got the club sandwich. Â While I could find no fault with it, it was very average. Â My husband did like the ribs, however. Â I have heard from others that the shepherd's pie is good. Â Perhaps if forced to return I'll give it a shot.
Review Source:This is one of my regular local spots and it is consistently a pleaser to the budget and the tummy. You better come hungry cuz they have giant portions on almost everything you order. I have tried nearly everything on the menu and have to say that the Banger and Mash is still my fave. Most of the fare is a little gut-busting, but they DO have healthy options if that's your thang....
Of coarse, being a pub, they have awesome beer specials and a cool beer-o-the-month campaign with free beer glasses for trying out the month's option. The servers are ALWAYS friendly and personal. I read the one douchy comment from the one guy and it sounded like he had a bad day....never has happened ONCE. The owner is nearly always there and he IS IRISH. If you have a problem, tell the awesome bartenders and they will propbably comp you for something and make it all better!!
If you're out this far, you should definitely stop by. And, if you're into "redneck watchin" on the weekend, head upstairs for some "night club" action (Fri & Sat nights only, 21 and up!)
I was not expecting much from this place, because I have had bad experiences in the past at other Irish Bred's in the area (Carrollton). So going in with low expectations, I was pleasantly surprised by the food and service. Their shepherd's pie and mac & cheese are delish, but probably terrible for you. I love the outdoor seating on a nice day!
Review Source:Love this place! Â It's really a cool little spot. Â I have a thing for historic buildings and I love how they kept the brick walls as part of the decor - it really makes the whole Irish pub feeling of the place. Â
We ordered the spinach and artichoke dip with tortilla chips as an appetizer - the dip was delicious but I wasn't lovin the chips. They were a little too small and not as crispy as I like them to be. Â However they must've been good cause we there wasn't a crumb left when we were through!
I decided to "branch out" and order the Shephard's Pie (hey, I usually order fish and chips when I go to irish pubs!) and it was delicious!!! Â Ginormous serving, nice and meaty, creamy mashed 'taters - scrumptuous!!! Â I had some homemade chips and some garlic bread on the side and they were right on!
The BF had their rib plate with salad and mac and cheese. Â I had a funky feelin that ordering ribs at an irish joint would be a mos def huge mistake, but surprisingly they were very tasty! Â Tender, juicy, and rich (and I can't figure out how ribs are rich but that's how both me and BF described them the second they hit our mouths)....Who would've thunk that an irish joint could make some killer ribs??? Â :)
Prices are good, especially since you get so much food that you have enough for lunch the next day!
I've been to Irish Bred Pub twice now and I must say that i've enjoyed both experiences. The first time i went with my parents and enjoyed some of their delicious fish and chips along with a frosty guinness and it was very satisfying if a little greasy. The second time i had the shepard's pie, also excellent.
This place really isn't as much of an irish pub as an irish inspired pub. They have a decent selection of irish whiskys and of course the standard irish beers but the food is mostly american pub food.
The environment is nice but can get crowded depending on what night your in there. The upstairs doubles as a bar later in the evening. The staff is always friendly and the service is prompt but not terribly speedy.
Overall, i enjoy it, i wish there were more places in downtown douglasville to enjoy a good meal, maybe oneday this area will perk up.
