New owners coming soon. Â The purchase of the business/property should be finalized today. Â As soon as the liquor control commission can approve the paperwork, it will be re-opened with much of the same food. Â There are certainly things that will change, as with any ownership change.
Review Source:How do business owners not know how their staff is treating people? Â One fine example of this is my most recent trip to a local pub called The Irish Pub. Â We went there because we saw an advertisement for $1 off Michigan brews on Thursday nights. Â We decided to give it a try. Â We have been there in the past and it was okay...we absolutely love the club sandwich, but the rest of the place is forgettable. Â
So as always we walk in and seat ourselves (normal with a bar).  However I must say that I would really appreciate bars/restaurants having a sign saying either "seat yourself" or "please wait to be seated" so I do not look lost as I stand in the doorway awkwardly wondering what to do.  Anyways, we have been there before so we knew that we needed to seat ourselves.  We were trying to decide if we were going to stay there for dinner or if we were just going to have a drink and move down to the next place.  Like always we were one of about ten different people in there.  That is tragic because there are quite a few colleges around town so on a Thursday night the place should be hoppin!
To be honest our server was not too rude to us.  She just did not know her beer.  She rattled off about six beers off of the top of her head (mainly Bud, Bud Light, Coors, etc).  So me being a lover of brown ale's and porters I ask what they have for either one of those.  She just stared at me and told me a list of IPA's.  I do not like IPA's so I asked her if they had any browns or porters.  She looked at me and said "I have no idea."  Then just just stood there.  Now, I know that this is not that big of a deal but I have been a server before and I have always worked with the public so I know that what I always do when I do not know something; I find out.  She made no effort of finding out and she just shrugged her shoulders and stared at me.  I normally would have just ordered something that she had named off, but I am so sick of people not helping me and then I have to tip them?  I of course feel guilty even if we get bad service we always tip 20%.  So I stared back at her and said well I will take a brown ale or a porter.  My fiance got a little skirmish at this point and he went up and looked at the board that they have with all of the different brews that they have.  They did have a porter and I ordered that.  We left after this and to be honest we probably will not go back for a while.
Like I said that really isn't that big of a deal, but at the same time it also is not a big deal for her to take four steps back and read the list of brews that they have.  I just do not understand.  Maybe that is why a lot of the businesses around here are empty.  If you do not treat your guests as if they were in your home then why would they ever come back?  This is a note to owners and managers: if you would like your business to thrive then your employees need to know that they need to know the menu and if they do not then simply find out.  That is what I was taught while employed at the different restaurants that I worked for.
I will eventually go back to let them try and redeem themselves.  I know that I am not special and I do not deserve special treatment in any way shape or form.  I do know that I am not the only person who has been dissatisfied at this location.  I can't be the place was empty.
Pretty much the definitive neighborhood pub. Ambiance is casual with just the right mix of bar gloom and misplaced chairs. The menu is bar food. It's cheap and good. Burgers run around six bucks and are serious beef. The menu is fried stuff, sandwiches, fried stuff, wraps, fried stuff, and burgers -- it's a pretty comprehensive list of ways to sweet-talk a deep fryer or dress up a bun.
Beer selection is good, with enough rotating seasonal draughts to keep things interesting, and more microbrews in bottles than they let on.
This place isn't fancy by any means -- the patio is a roped-off section of the parking lot -- but it's one of my Lansing faves, because it's just a great low-key mix of everything that goes well with a beer.
Advice: Fries cost extra. If you order fries, you'll get them about half the time. If you don't order fries, you'll still get them about half the time. Go prepared to argue about your fries.
If you're looking for an active bar, this is not your place, but if you are looking for a good neighborhood bar to hang out and eat, this is your place. It isn't very busy often, but it is perfect for me since I just want to relax and enjoy my meal. The staff are hit or miss. Sometimes they get talking to each other, but most of the time they are prompt at serving their tables. They need to update their menus. Last time we were there, they were out of multiple items on their menu. I wonder if they ever have them. But I absolutely love the fish and chips. I'm okay just getting that anytime I visit. I think they are the best fish and chips in the area at a much better price. I've started to come here often, and as long as they have the same fish, I'll come back.
Review Source:I'd do a solid 3.75 if I could. The "large" salads - only a few bucks more than the small/regular salads - are huge. You won't be able to finish them. It's like the scene with John Candy in "The Great Outdoors" - only with a salad. I thought "Oh, I'll be somewhat healthy at trivia night and order a salad, but I'll want one bigger than just a side salad." Whoa. It was massive. The BLT here is good, too. It's a bar inside. Nothing more, nothing less. Â Someone wrote an evocative, nostalgic piece about it in a local Lansing alternative newspaper.
Review Source:Last night I enjoyed a big plate of fish and chips with my friends at the Irish Pub. Â The service was good and accurate, the fish was perfectly cooked, and the fries were tasty. Â What can I say about the atmosphere? It's a bar. Â Plenty of TVs and lottery games to catch one's attention. Â Plus it's only 1-1/2 miles from my house! Â I like the Irish Pub in all its simplicity.
Review Source:A small group of friends ended up here over the holidays. This place is definitely a neighborhood Michigan bar. It's pretty divey and not a place to take a date or anything, unless you want to scare them away. A band of substantial size was playing and my friend and I both thought they were very decent and enjoyed listening to them. The bar is fairly large with two rooms, one with a large bar, some tables and the band set up, while the other had pool tables and about 5 dart boards. Some real sketch peeps were roaming around, but for the most part I'd just call the clientele your average low key individuals who enjoy a good beer, of which they had a decent selection including Shocktop, plus the bartender was nice. Overall, not a bad spot.
Review Source:This place may not be the best "bar" in the world, as Nikki M. suggests, but the food is fantastic. There's a tiny little corner where a small flattop and deep fryer lives, but somehow they make magic back there. My main compliments go to the corned beef, with which they make four different types of reubens. They actually take the time to corn their own beef and slice it fairly thick. I don't know where they got the recipe, but its some of the best corned beef I've ever had.
The menu also features really good pub grub/fried food like mushrooms, onion rings, sweet potato fries, jalapeno poppers, etc. The tap list isn't extensive, but they do feature at least one Arcadia and one Founders brew at all times, which is fine by me. And I've heard the burgers are great, but I've just not had the heart to order something that doesn't have corned beef on it. Hmmm... maybe they'll make me a reuben burger?
My boyfriend lived on the West Side of Lansing, and this place was within walking distance so we went. The food we ordered was pretty great, and our waitress was really nice.
Their food menu was somewhat similar to what you'd see at TGI Fridays, but it was LOADS better. Also, their music wasn't trying to destroy my eardrums.
I'm not a drinker, nor am I a bar hopper. I eat, and I like eating.
I would eat here again. It was delicious, great service and priced well.
I dont expect much from a bar really but this place was bad. They only had 2 pool tables (but you could see where 2 or 3 more had been) and then when we went to get darts the bartender told us he didnt have any. There are 5 dartboards and only 2 were being used. Pretty sad to not have enough darts and this was a weeknight. I dont need my bartenders to looks amazing but I think this guy rolled out of bed, it was very offputting and made me glad Id already eaten. The "DJ" tried a little to hard to "mix" and it was slightly painful and he ruined some good songs. We did get a pool table and discovered the coin machine was out of order.
Overall, the place left A LOT to be desired. The most basic expectations couldn't be met and I question the bartenders hygiene. There are much better bars in Lansing to go to. Avoid this place!
