Love this place.  One of the most knowledgeable staffs I have encountered.  Food is overwhelmingly limited, but there is a good burger joint with take-out across the tracks.  The beers are always rotating so that you get a variety.  AND, if you find one you like, you can take some home.  I happen to have a weakness for the Big Island Pale Ale accompanied by French fries and a hearty hamburger.

Plan to spend some time here and take a stroll afterwards.

Micro brew by the beach is not fair. Visiting this place immediately makes you depressed that eventually you'll have to leave. Then you taste the beer and that feeling worsens. The IPA and double IPA are both very solid. I buy it every time I see it. The building is industrious but cozy. The bartenders are always nice no matter how swamped, and they get swamped. They have enlarged the patio area. It's fun to get a pint and see the train whiz by the tracks nearby. During part of the year, they make an avacado ale which is different but you have to get at least one. They used to show movies in the brewhouse. Hope they still do because we want to do that at least once.

Made a stop here during a Bachelorette Party Tour a few weekends ago. Our server was super nice and very informative, wish I could remember her name but she was young and cute. They had some great spots to sit on the patio and enjoy the sunshine while tasting their beers. Tasting came with about 5-8 beers and in a fairly generous pour. I am not a huge beer fan but I picked up their IPA for the bf. Everyone had a great time and enjoyed their drinks. Will be back again!

Open since July 2001, this small brewery in downtown Carpinteria has a large following of local fans. It's got that casual, small town feel and its close proximity to the ocean gives it a beachy vibe. A great place to go on a sunny afternoon when you are hankering for a delicious handcrafted beer. There is a bar area and tables inside and out. People are welcome to bring picnics and they occasionally have live music. The brewery butts up right against the train tracks so occasionally the Amtrak train will be coming by.

I'm an IPA fan and their Island Pale Ale (6.4% alcohol) is fabulous! But do try a sampler of all their beer if its your 1st time visiting and find your own personal favorite. All the staff is very friendly, especially Alma who is adorable and the sweetest person I've met in a long time!!

Definitely worth the short drive from Santa Barbara. Or you can also make a fun outing with friends by taking the train to and from SB. Since SB is the DUI-capital of California (DUI checkpoints were invented here!), it's not a bad idea, especially if you plan to imbibe heavily.

Their beer was good and they were very nice to us (we got a tour of the place). I didn't feel like there was anything exceptional to make this place stand out in my mind.

The big issue they face here is space. They have good space, but they use it all wrong. The bar is lined with bar stools so you it can take a while to get a drink order in. They almost have too many places to sit, and not enough to just stand around. Although they were not crowded by any sense of the word, their lack of space made it feel crowded.

Being from San Diego I expect a lot from micro breweries and Island Brewing Co. does not disappoint. Good beer, laid back attitude, a solid 4 and a half stars. Try the harvest ale it's delicious.

Bumped this place up to five stars, it keeps getting better. Really impressed with the Blonde Ale and Starry Night, and of course the friendly service.

I made a quick stop here on my way to SB. This is a great little spot to come and try some of their brews.  Reggae music, a slight view of the ocean, and an open setting allows for the ocean breeze to blow right in, not a bad set up at all.

I tried the blonde ale which was super refreshing and delicious, it disappeared in minutes.  The place was packed out on Sunday.  They sell growlers, and also pre filled 64 oz? bottles which are very reasonably priced, starting at $4.

Pretzels are complimentary to nibble on, they also sell chips, but that is it for food.  They let you bring in your own food if you want to enjoy a meal with your beer.

    Service was friendly.

    Around the corner...down the alley...walk down there a ways...go down the alley...you'll find  .

Some of the advice I got on how to get to this place. It was worth it.  The crowd was mostly locals and I consulted extensively with one before deciding on the beer flight...specifically which beers to choose.

The choices were good, the conversation was good and the bartenders were very nice and chatty.

IBC is pretty much guaranteed that if I'm spending another night in Carpenteria they will see me again.

Always a fun time to be had at Island! Great staff great beer at decent prices. My only gripe, a bigger selection and food would make me spend a lot more here.

I also wished they served food .... but I really don't care... or I do... but it's not relevant and it wouldn't be a deciding point on wether I would go back there or not. It's a brewery so I expect beer. And I'm glad they had them !!!
I will definitively y come back some day but I don't live anywhere near Carpinteria. I got off my path to go here on the way back to LA from Santa Barbara. This place was great, welcoming, friendly. Great beers and right by the ocean which makes it feel even more special.  And I can't say enough how warm it felt. ... not just the people behind the bar but the regulars as well.  simple and good.  what else do you need ?

We are huge fans of IBC.  Been going there for three years or so.  It's a great one-hour stop to grab a couple of delicious brews.  Staff and owners are SUPER friendly and if you go there enough you feel like you're part of the gang.  We like the Tropical Lager which is brewed in the summer time.  The Blond is delicious as well.  I see that others order the "hard stuff" and really love it.  Totally laid back, BYO food if you don't want to drink your meal...he he he.  Totally worth your time if you're a beer lover!

    Another place I can't believe I haven't reviewed yet!

The husband & I have been going for YEARS now to this place and it all started when we saw a sign with two arrows, one pointing to parking and one pointing to BEER.  We pretty much hit this place up 99% of the time we go to Carp, whether we're camping, staying in a hotel, and/or just passing through to Santa Barbara.  We were part of the Island Nation for a while

LOCATION/AMBIANCE:  The brewery is where they actually brew, and used to be more of a warehouse.  They've since renovated and its even cooler.  It is next to the train tracks and on the other side is the grass and campsite area, so the ocean is viewable, though somewhat in the distance.  Bummer part is that there's now a park in the grassy area that blocks the awesome view they used to have.  Great for the kids, but sucky for those sitting here.  The crowd is all casual and there are often kids and dogs joining their parents and owners, respectively.  There are locals (some of whom we've met over the years) and there are out-of-towners passing through or who, like us, have this is as a regular destination.  Very laid back and not at all a bar-type feel (except for, of course, the beer).  What I mean by that is that I've never seen a fight, loud drunks, people getting kicked out, etc.  It's a very pleasant experience.

BEER (& OTHER DRINKS/FOOD):  So, it's a brewery and they only have beer, with some bar munchies.  My fave is the hef and the husband's fav is the IPA.   Since they don't serve other drinks or food, they allow for food to be brought in or delivered.  I've also seen women with wine while their husbands come in for beer.

STAFF/SERVICE:  We absolutely adore their staff.  Some of them we don't see any more b/c they moved shifts (and we only come on weekends since we're not locals) and the newer ones are still very nice also.

Bottom Line - Go for a pleasant & relaxing time, but don't get rowdy.  This is not the place for that.

I was here once about a year ago doing a tasting during a bachelor party and I was sad that I couldn't stay longer at the time.  Coming back for a second time I was not disappointed! Their brews are delicious and if you are there at the right time you can take a tour and see how it is all done.  I tried several different beers and they seemed to get better and better.  I ended up getting a growler to take home with me and I cannot wait to come back again, great reason to head up the coast.  Love Island Brewing Company!

    Great beer!
Small space with a patio, right next to the train tracks.
    No food.  :(

I wish they sold some noshes, that would make it 4 star.  But the beer is GREAT.

Island Brewing Company is such a hidden jewel! I've heard nothing but great things so I finally had to come here with my carp friends! Located not far from Linden Street kinda hidden away a couple blocks, I layed eyes on the small but perfect size Microbrewery! I love IPA's so I ordered the Long Island IPA and it was delishish! 4 $ or a 16oz! Can't beat that! I loved the laid back atmosphere and it had a great local band playing. As I watched the sunset and sipped on my beer I was loving the great conversations and the great local art all over the place! Very cool! The only thing that I can complain about is that they don't serve any type of food there! I heard from friends that you can bring food and that's great!!! We ended up leaving and going to get some food tho because it was around dinner time! It is a great place to go and relax and have some great beer!! Can't wait to go back!!!

best local beer in all of Santa Barbara County. They offer samplers to try out different beers but ultimately it is all about the Jubliee! Great local beer and great place to stare at the ocean and watch the sunset. Love me some Island!

    Delicious micro brews
    Laid back atmosphere
    Awesome art from local artists
    Great music
    Cool breezes from the ocean

Yeah, Island Brewing Company is the place to be on a hot summer day!

Located in the beautiful beach city Carpinteria, IBC is a decent sized microbrewery serving up some of the best micro brews I've come across.

IBC had nine of their amazing beers on tap the day we went. In the three hours I spent relaxing here I ended up trying every single one of them (we ordered two beer tasters). They had some Ales, IPA's, Lagers, Stouts and more. Their Island Pale Ale was so refreshing, probably one of my favorite Ales to date. I also really enjoyed their Blackbird Porter and their Stout. I'm not a huge fan of IPA's but I actually enjoyed theirs. They also sell all their beers by the bottle to-go at really resonable prices.

Serioulsy, I had such a good time just relaxing at IBC. For three hours I just sat there and sipped on some delicious beer, listended to some awesome tunes, checked out the great local art display, felt the amazing breezes coming from the ocean and chatted with my family.

Next time I'm up in the beautiful city of Carpinteria I'll be sure to make time to visit Island Brewing Company again. I really want to try their Avocado Honey Ale when it's available in the fall. That sounds so fantastic

I love Island's Paradise Pale Ale. Beer is so tasty and really smooth. Friendly staff and gorgeous ocean view are added bonuses! They also offer samplers were you can choose 5 of their beers to sample, super cool, family friendly brewery.

I always stop by Island Brewing on my way back home from the Santa Barbara area. This place rocks! This is my favorite craft brewery in the area. Located very close to the beach, the park and downtown Carp. I appreciate the outdoor seating area.. just makes it a great place to sit and drink. I wish they served food here, but this place is strictly a brewery. Bring some food if you're hungry, no problem! The place is canine friendly too, so bring your pal.

This is a GREAT place to stop by for some awesome craft beer when you visit Carp.  Walking distance from the campground, the beach, and the main strip of town.

Atmosphere is awesome - everybody is real chill and low key.

Even the kids like it - as there are some games on hand to keep them busy.

We always make it a point to visit here whenever we are in town.

    Really enjoyed our afternoon here!
My brother was in town and wanted to do some beer tasting and a brewery tour. We enjoyed a beer sampler, then each got a pint and the owner did an impromptu tour of the facility.
It was extreamily laid back and local. We ordered some mexican from a near by and ate it at the bar with our pints.
Definatly going back!! Thanks for a great afternoon!

Great atmosphere and beer...what could be better :)

How did I not even know this place existed? Good craft beers tucked away off one of the busiest streets in Carp. Their anniversary ale is very good (wish it was available in growlers though!), the black mamba and pale have become favorites in our household. Love the relaxed space with plenty of seating to enjoy the ocean breeze and the passing trains while you sip.  I just wish there was more room at the actual bar for those who like to learn about the beers. We had someone in our group order something that goes against everything he looks for in a beer because you are kind of blindly left to choose your pour, he wouldn't drink it so I had to sacrifice my anniversary ale to him in exchange.

Oh and music? They were winning me over with some great rock tunes then suddenly turned to some weird elevator music, I don't like to feel like I'm at the dentist when I'm drinking my craft beers so that was a bit of a fail I'd say. Other than that though, the vibe is perfectly SB County beach town and I'll certainly be back whenever I'm in the area.

Holy moly, i love it here. the 5 beer taster is fun and cheap. Live beer! The Shandy is the best addition to beer since a light beer foam at top!
Summer time just isnt complete without a Islands beer, watching the trains go by!

I love the beer at Island Brewery!

Also, a great place to take some food to have with your delicious beer. They allow outside food to be brought inside brewery, which is great! I love to bring a burrito from Beach Liquour and have a delicious beer and burrito on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. They also have a nice little area to sit outside. I have friends that ride their bikes all the way from Santa Barbara just to come and have a beer here on the weekend.

    It's Great!!!

I found Island Brewing Company when I was on my "Beer and Burgers Tour of California June 2010". I'll be completely frank, the beer isn't outstanding, but it is good. Stand-outs in their line-up are: Jubilee (an Old ale at 7.1% abv), Raven Porter (on Nitro) and their Island Pale Ale (I.P.A., get it? LOLOL!). The first Friday of every month they put one of their beers on Cask, which is a real treat.

    Why five stars?

Let's begin with the location, near the beach, the railroad and "The Spot". There is no nicer feeling then to sit on their patio in the evening and watching the sunset over the ocean with a glass of good beer. Also, they encourage people to bring food in (they have no kitchen, which is tragic) and the Brewery is across the street from the Spot. Chili-Cheese fries with my beer? Yes Please!

Another reason why Island gets five stars is because of how  friendly the Staff is. When I visited last to try their cask beer, the brewmaster took time out of his night (the place was really bumping) to explain to my father and me about cask ale and the process that went into its production. I've always felt welcome here.

In short, they do everything right here, from cask ale to a great location to outstanding service. I'm glad I found Island. Definitely worth a stop if one has a free hour or two.

Good Beer, Nice View, No Attitude.  Award Winning!
Island Brewing is a relaxed place to grab a pint of fresh 'live' beer.  All of their beer is made on the premises and is not pasteurized.  They have a nice rotation of beers on tap and in to go bottles depending on the time of year.  Situated across from the state park, the view is peaceful.  They sell kegs 5 or 15 gallon, 64oz Growlers or 22 oz bottles.   mmmmmm beer!

A tucked away brewery with an ocean view - tell me it doesn't get better then this!  The drinking room was casual, relaxed and made me miss Arcata, CA.  It definitely has a Northern California vibe.  (I felt FAR AWAY from LA - wahoo!)

We sampled the Honey Avocado Beer, being that we had tried their other selections at the California Beer Festival.  It was smooth, with a honey subtleness that was delicious.  I know Budweiser touts their Drinkability - but this stuff is so dangerously drinkable!  They served us in a plastic cup made from corn that made it compostable.  Love their eco awareness!  We sat on the patio and stared off at the waves.

We did notice that the Carpinteria State Beach Campground was right across the railroad tracks so we're planning on coming back to camp and enjoy more beer.  The brewery is a great place that makes everyone who walks in the door feel like a local.

Sitting in traffic is no fun, and here's where Yelp came to the rescue: My buddy and I were driving back from a Lake Cuchuma fishing trip--(North of Santa Barbara), and the Sunday traffic to LA on the101 got gnarly. We Yelped great spots to stop near Carpinteria, and found the Island Brewing Company has a 5 star rating, albeit small sample size.

At the point, a great beer sounded wonderful. We found they didn't serve food but it's common for folks to bring food in. I had their Blonde Ale and my buddy had the Amber Ale. Later that evening, we both tried the Paradise Pale Ale and all 3 were delicious, smooth and soothing! I'm a big Mack n Jack's fan (small micro-brewery in WA who makes a great Amber Ale), and this Amber stood up to this level. Unfortunately, the beer isn't distributed to LA, so I'll have to go back.

We met the daughter of the owner who was great and hospitable, providing us with restaurant suggestions and a menu book----like a personal concierge!

This location is a little hard to find, even using the nav system. When you are close, park and walk to the rear of the warehouses for to an outdoor seating area with an oceanfront view.

We sat at the bar and had wonderful time, and the 101S cleared up!

A beautiful perfectly placed microbrewery that is worth the effor to find, visit and taste.  They have a nice selection of various styles of beers from a porter to a great pale ale.

It's location is of the beaten but still full of customers.  I got there around 3 and was able to sit at the bar with 3 friends.  We met Laurie and she gave us the tour of the inner workings.  What a great family business with a great beer.

I will definitely make the effort to stop in Carpinteria to visit Island Brewing whenever I am in the vicinity.

No food so come with a semi filled belly so as to absord the tasty beers.
