Definitely the Dive Bar of Avalon but for the purpose of watching a game this place was a lifesaver with their big screen TVs. The have a few pool tables that people were playing a game on but most people come here to watch a game...or drink...or both. No food but the bartenders were really cool with us bringing in outside food and even gave us some recommendations for Chinese across the street or pizza just a few doors down.

Good place to grab a beer and watch a game on the island. Didn't knock my socks off with the selection of draft beer, but it was definitely a good place to chill out. Pool tables in the back, and the bartender was pretty funny. The crowd in there was pretty small but definitely nice while I visited.

Fun spot, was the only of four places we went still serving after 10pm in the winter. They have two pool tables for $1 per game. They serve normal pints and chalices. Several beers on tap, but not really my kind of selection--no IPAs. They did have bottles of sierra, though. Lots of sports figure pictures line pretty much every inch of the walls, except the parts of be walls covered by several TVs, so there's always something to check out.

The best place on the island to hang out and watch sports. They have at least 12 flat screens + the NFL network. Ideal for Sunday football.  While most will hit up Luau Larry's, the experts know that The Locker Room is the most fun and less filled with vomiting tourists. They have pool and darts as well.

Another locals bar for sure. I actually thought the place was pretty decent, it was a pretty big place, and they too have live music on the weekends.

We came in for a few drinks and to buy a t-shirt before our dinner reservations. The service was slow, and yet it wasn't even busy.

What irked me the most is a few of the locals wouldn't leave us alone to look around and enjoy the old school pictures of athletes and whatnot that adorn the walls. They kept trying to get our business, and sell us on stuff we didn't want to do, or have time to do, and they also happened to be three sheets to the wind, so they kept asking us over and over again where we were from, and kept offering us the deal of a lifetime, only to keep changing the price on us. We left after our second drink, we just wanted to enjoy ourselves not agree to give anyone our business. Boo! :(

Obviously, if you want to do the Catalina thing, stay on the "strip." I purposely wanted to find a "local bar", and we discovered this bar early on on our trip. It's perfect if you're looking for a LOCAL bar, not one of those, on the beach, bougie, fancy bars. So you get what you expect. My boyfriend and I love to play games, and play pool, and drinks were dirt cheap compared to the strip, so we ended up coming here 3 times throughout our stay.

New place, slow service. I think they are still working out some kinks.

Sports bar with delicious bloodymary's and live music.  Mention Bryan's favorite thing: UNICORNS & he will give you a free shot!

This Pub is probably one of the best I've been to.  We showed up early around 11:30 to watch a soccer match. The barman was quick to get 5 of the televisions on our game. The place is huge! Pool table, darts, music and loads of tables. They have about 10 beers on tap and they have a full bar service. I am not a beer drinker but I ended up having a couple pints of Longboard. That was so good! Although they don't have food, they let you bring anything you want in the pub. There is a pizza place burgers and dogs practically next door. I was really craving fish and chips and was a bit disappointed when I learned about them not serving food and this is the only reason I gave them 4 stars. The place is definitely a locals hang out! Super nice people! Definitely recommend the place but just bring food in with you!

The Locker Room is a locals bar but they do get some great bands to play on weekend nights.  It isn't a dive bar, just a plain old working man's bar with a couple of pool tables, dart board and room to move around (which is rare in Avalon).  Probably the most functional men's room in Avalon.

This place was awful and doesn't deserve the 1 star rating that I'm giving it. We decided to go here after talking to several locals who suggested it to watch the Kings Hockey game. The Boston Celtics and Miami Heat were also playing game 7. They had ONE BARTENDER working the entire bar and we waited nearly 45 minutes for drinks.

I thought smoking indoors was banned in California but apparently that law doesn't apply to the bartender. He lit a cigarette every 5 minutes and left it to burn in an ash tray located by the bars front window. The breeze would blow in and carry the smoke throughout the bar, causing it to reek of a nasty stench (see photo).

You think the management or owner would have figured out this was going to be a busy night for bar goers. The bartender was a complete jerk and refused to turn up the volume to the Kings game despite repeated complaints from all the customers. Literally, 90% of the customers were complaining for the volume to be turned up. The bartender finally turned up the volume midway through the second period and the entire place erupted in cheers. This pompous self-centered bartender then raised his middle finger high in the air and flipped off all of us. I couldn't believe what I had just seen.

Avoid this place at all costs, it's just another trashed out bar trying to suck money from the wallets of tourists.

Located right across from the Atwater Hotel  on Catalina Island. This is the best sports bar on the island in Avalon. They have many large televisions inside all playing a variety of  sports and games. They serve the coldest beer on the island (no seriously the schooners created beer slushies) They have two pool tables and some video games. Each night they provide a live band which rocks. Great atmosphere, go here!

Nothing Special, Very Rundown, Unhelpful staff

Sure I'm not completely against going to a dive, the atmosphere can be fun and quaint.  This place is just sad.

Not very clean place and the old old carpeted floor should have been removed and left as concrete or something many many years ago.

Staff seem to pride themselves on now knowing how to make anything and on being unhelpful.

Pluses are the TVs and prices. With the right group and the right live music I could see this place being ok, but not as a walk-in.

My husband and I needed a Birthday drink and atmosphere since it was his bday. Now we chose this place cause my husband would prefer bars than a club any day. So I would have given this place five stars if I didn't see the bartenders keep serving two people who were already so drunk, they couldn't even walk. They were older too but still that is not ok. Granted everything that lives there goes there drinks it up and walks home but that isn't fair for us who these two people fell on us twice and got real close to us to where we can smell their drinks on their breath and it got too personal to fast.
Now to the good part...after the drunk society left, the TV's were play football and basketball. We had a great time and the drinks kept getting stronger after each one and the prices were awesome. They had a live band around 10pm and the younger crowd was coming in. Everybody is friendly and we really enjoyed ourselves at this bar. We were really taken care of and always were on watch to the bar tender. We are fans and going back on our next trip. Thanks JL's Locker room. :)

This is a drinkers bar. Trust me, I know, Ima drinker.
I'd describe it as a quasi dive / sports bar. Plenty of screens, a couple pool tables and music 2 or 3 nights a week.

The two nights we partied here, Brian the bartender (a man of few words), was on his game and pouring good strong drinks. The drinks are reasonably priced and there's a Mexican/burger joint just up the street with decent grub. Check it out!

Great Sports bar, So if you go there with your buddies this is the place to stop in and drink. They had all sorts of different games on when we went. The bartender was nice. It is very big in there.

I would say if your looking for a drink and some relax with a game stop in here for your day.

The Locker Room got two visits from us on our trip. Both times the bartender was very helpful and nice. Another locals hang out but the bar is bigger than most and also has a game room with multiple pool tables and a dart board.

Drinks were reasonable and strong! Good place to go with groups and for the games. Definitely was my favorite bar that we made it to in Avalon.

Fun dive bar, lots of TVs showing football and hockey, cheap drinks, pool tables, nice locals, and they were giving out raffle tickets for every drink you got and gave out thongs, shirts, hats, and more free drinks for what seemed like every 15 minutes. People were definitely having fun and the owner was really cool. The drinks were cheap and strong so I liked that =)

The Locker Room (formerly JL's) is a good spot If you want to hang with the locals and watch sports on TV. I watched the Knicks beat my Bulls and the Lakers get spanked by Miami here on Christmas Day. I know they had some cheap drinks and good beers on tap but I was drinking Makers Mark...eight dollars apiece is a little steep. I mean this isn't a club in Las Vegas or an airport bar. Anyway, I got my drink on and talked to some interesting people.

This place had some nice screens for game watching. Hoever, the seats are not placed in conducive places to utilize the screens. We were sitting inches from a 50- inch screen! The staff is very nice and open to changing the TV to the game you want to watch.

The drinks are cheap and they have some quality beers on tap. $5 for a large beer. There is one pool table and live entertainment on certian nights. Minus stars for the fact that there are people smoking pretty much in the doorway of the bar, so you can't come and go without inhaling massive amounts of second hand smoke.

The nicest of your options on Catalina Island.   Not great by mainland standards, but pretty swanky for Catalina.   Lots of TVs, some pool tables, plenty of seating, plenty of booze (strong drinks too), and something unusual for Catalina nightlife in the off season - people!    This place was packed when the other (two) bars were pretty empty.    I was pretty hammered for most of my visit here, so I can't tell you much more, but worth a visit while on the island.

I can't remember the guys name now, but I guess he is a fixture at the bar - vietnam vet who lost one hand during the war and amazingly enough had hit 24 hole in ones on the island golf course when I met him.   Give this guy some love/appreciation and buy him a tequila shot - he deserves it.

Owner and his wife were really friendly too.   Fun place.

I'm hoping this is the same place as I went to as it's now named The Locker Room Sports Bar.  Same address though.

Dive bar on this inside.  It was still early evening when we went for a drink and it wasn't crowded.  Lots of TVs.  Spacious, too, as it goes back pretty deep.  Couple of pool tables in the back.

The bartender (we didn't get his name) was super nice.

    Reasonably priced.

This is a classic dive bar where all the locals come. My first time at this bar was just bad. Come in on our first night in the island buy a beer and play pool and we were hassled by locals. Second time we met Margie, just an awesome bartender. She ended up giving us free drinks and we gave her free tickets to see our show. after that the locker room was the bar of choice for the cast of Grease. She even made a drink called a greasy grease...

A nice sports bar with all the necessary requirements for a great Saturday afternoon of college football.  They don't have that many tv's (2 big screens at either end of the bar and 3-4 other smaller tvs near the bar and around the rest of the place) but they were very friendly and turned to the obscure game we wanted to see on the main tv.  There are a couple pool tables in the back and a number of bar video games on the left wall.  The juke box is filled with a unique mix of country and 60-70 rock and R&B and only cost a quarter a song.

Again, mostly locals seemed to hang out here as they were setting up for a live band later in the night.  Everyone was very friendly and didn't mind our group acting like drunken jackasses whenever our team scored a point of any kind.  The beer is around $3 for your typical Bud/Miller/etc and didn't seem to have anything that special.  I guess they don't have any distributors who ship kegs out to the island because it was another bar without any beers on tap.

Definitely check this place out if you are on the island and want to catch a game.  I'm not sure if it picks up after 9pm but it was not that busy when we were there in the late afternoon/early evening.

Dive bar with very strong drinks.  Go to The Marlin instead.
