I'm from Joplin, but haven't lived there for 13 years. Â Every year I go back to see friends and family it seems there is a different "in" bar at the time. Â Then the next year that bar is closed and another bar becomes the "in" bar.
I'm happy to say that the last 4 times I've been to Joplin, JB's has been THE place to go, and it is much much better than the alternatives the past few years. Â There are 3 (maybe 4?) different sections and bars in this place. Â There is always a good, clean, mixed crowed, and there are always good beer prices. Â
I hate just sitting and drinking (Okay, so I don't hate hate it), but I like to do things while I drink. Â JB's takes care of my activity craving. Â There are pool tables, dart boards, live music, a dance floor, tv's and pretty much everything I need to cure my attention deficit disorder. Â
5 stars and two big thumbs up for Joplin finally having a consistently cool place to go.
This type of piano bar isn't what you would expect if you hang around the ones in Kansas City. The room in which is rather large creating an open, but exposed feeling. There are lots of seats to set at. The problem with this is that it leaves no room for people who want to dance with their arm candy. Too many tables near the dueling pianos so it prevents any dancing. Â
There is a full bar, but when I ordered an Old Fashioned there were some ingredients that wasn't readily available. But the lemon peel substitution helped and gave the drink a rather...unique taste.
It isn't such a bad place. Like any good bar, it doesn't pick up until after 9:30. The drink specials $2 - 5 and $5 cover charge are so cheap that you can have a good time under $20. Just don't order a drink that isn't so commonly ordered and expect to be able to dance when you loosen up a bit!!
