Quite honestly, this place is horrible. Not what I was expecting at all, considering the high standard for a local bar/grill restaurants like Silver Tavern in Manalapan set. The restaurant looks aging and filthy. We tried their signature "Jimmy C's" sushi roll, which sounded tasty but really was lacking in flavor and freshness. This would be excusable for the bar scene if it was a cheaper roll, but it's priced in the $12-$15 range of actual sushi restaurants in the area. Don't believe the reviews that say that the sushi is the best in Toms River, as there are a handful of far superior places here.
When a bar messes up their buffalo wings, which should be the high-point of their food, they're in trouble. The wings here are oddly extremely salty and the meat tasted dry. Going for a "filet mignon" special in a mushroom sauce, the steak tasted like a lump of something that had lost almost all of its recognizable flavor and texture. It was mushy and lacking apparent flavor, not to mention the disgusting sauce which tasted like it was from a greasy blender of somebody who hasn't educated themselves in proper seasonings. They also have a salad bar here, more of a salad station but an okay touch though not a saving grace.
An apple pie with ice cream wasn't bad at all, warm and tasted pretty good with the cinnamon. No problems with service either. Disappointing overall.
Good beer selection, great atmosphere, creative menu, accommodating service. We cannot wait to make this our local place for a relaxing early dinner on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. It is slightly too expensive for us to come here very often for dinner but their sandwiches and burgers are priced just right. We had the lamb sliders which were probably as good as a lamb slider could be. Their soup was delicious, I had the chicken corn chowder and just about licked the bowl clean. I am slightly put off by the hard as rock bread sticks, they are soooo tasty covered in salt and what seems like pepper and garlic powder, but they are so hard that I think they might break my teeth. Once I broke them up and put them in my soup to soften they were perfect! (I know, a lot to say about a complimentary appetizer, but they are devilish the way the flavor is so perfect and tempting yet it covers a rocklike tooth breaker)
We will be back most definitely.
