The pizza was good, but we'll do carry-out in the future. Being from the Chicago area, we are picky about our thin crust, but this was nice and crispy, and we liked it better than Wild Tomato. The service was mediocre, as was the ambiance. I think Jo Joe's would be great as a "place your order at the counter" type of establishment. It has more of a fast food feel inside, and that would help with the less than stellar table service. There's a nice little play area next door that's open to the public (between Jo Joe's and the Red Putter). I think there were some tables there, so I guess you could feasibly eat outside if you did carry out and didn't want to take it back to your house/hotel.
Review Source:If you are from the Chicago area and are used to Chicago Pizza - this is not the place. First off - there are only 2 items on the menu- Â Pizza or Italian beef.
We ordered 2 Pizzas- 1 pepperoni and 1 Cheese and 4 drinks.
The pizza was so thin - I have never had pizza paper thin before - it was not good. The sauce was non existent  - we took the cheese off of the pizza to look for it - there must have been 1 teaspoon on the entire pizza. The cheese - odd.
They cut it up into little cracker sized pieces - which if it tasted good it wouldn't have mattered.
Our waitress could not be bothered to give us our check and we had to get up and ask another for it.
Maybe this is the style up North - but not around here.
I was told to visit this place and try the gelato and I'm glad I did. Just next time I'd like to go when I'm not so full so I could have enjoyed the sweet cream with out feeling sick afterwards. Â I'd like to go back and try the pizza sometime as it smelled amazing plus there are lots of favors of gelato I'd like to try.
Review Source:Joe Jo's was a nice family-friendly restaurant. The pizza was good, nothing special to write home about. The menu was extremely short. You either ordered pizza, bread-sticks, or salad. The service left something to be desired. Although our food was out on time and accurate, the friendliness was a letdown. When we asked how the breadsticks were, the serve (or rather owner I believe) asked "Are you going to ask me how the pizza is too?" And there was no laugh to follow the question! So...while the food is OK, there are a ton of AMAZING places to eat in Door County. Would suggest going someplace else.
Review Source:Looking for good pizza in the Door. Still looking. Went here twice. First time thought pizza tasteless. Not enough italian spices. But very thin pizza which we like. Wait staff nice. Told by friends to try again must have been a bad pizza. Nope still bad. Went to get a Italian beef thought would be good way to bypass pizza. Â Very limited menu. No Italian beef unless you want very spicy. No sausage either .Wanted to bring pizza home as could not eat would add ital spices. Charged $1 for styrofoam container. Wont be going back.
Review Source:On a spring Saturday night, after trying to get a seat at the Wild Tomato (tiny pizza place down the road with unfinished walls and old booths), we decided to skip the wait and travel to Joe Jo's Pizza & Gelato, which we passed a couple of times while out and about. I am so glad we did!
Joe Jo's Pizza & Gelato had a packed parking lot, but we did not have a wait to sit inside. To our surprise, there was live music AND it was good. We heard everything from the Beatles to Israel Kamakawiwo`ole (a Hawaiian singer). Our service was slow, but the server was nice and our thin crust pizza was yummy! We were not in a rush, so we didn't mind the slow service. We were just happy to sip on soda and listen to the band.
As someone else stated, you may need to order a size up on pizza, but the prices are quite fair and this shouldn't be a problem.
Get gelato for dessert, you won't be disappointed!
(Total bill $26.00 w/o tip)
I will be back!
On our vacation to Door County, we stopped into this pizza joint for dinner one evening. We ordered a thin crust cheese and black olive pizza. The thin crust was excellent, which really made the pizza outstanding. Their pizzas are a bit on the small side, so you have to order a bit larger than you may used to. The traditional root beer in a frosted mug seemed to be just a marketing gimmick, I couldn't taste any difference, but it was a typical soda. Overall, this was a decent place if you need a comfort food while out on vacation.
Review Source:My s/o and I went to Joe Jo's in 2008 on our first trip to Door Cty. Â The thin crust pizza is great (and I come from Deep Dish central, Chicago.) Â Their gelato, however, is simply FANTASTIC. Â I don't know the exact process of how they make it, but it is much richer and smoother than gelato I got to sample at another of the Door's popular gelato vendors.
Back to the pizza. Â The pizza menu is simple: Â pick a size, pick your toppings, done. Â No fancy house specials or combinations to have to sort through. Â This pizza is as customized as your taste buds desire. Â Want garlic and sun-dried tomato? Â Done. Â Want to load it up with nothing but sausage and pepperoni? Â Done. Â And no matter how you order it, it comes to your table delicious.
Now- let me warn you about the gelato if you've never had it. Â It may have less cream in it than ice cream, but it also lacks the air that ice cream does, which is why it is so dense. Â When it is served to you, you eat it with a sampling spoon. Â Trust me, it is enough. Â You want to order less than you would if it were ice cream. Â A kiddie cup may look small, but with the spoon, it will leave you surprisingly satisfyied (and you won't feel any guilt.) Â No matter which flavor you eventually choose, you'll walk out with a smile on your face. Â Each time I've been there, I have. Â
Joe Jo's is the one destination that my s/o and I have started to make a point of stopping at whenever we are spending time at the Door. Â Especially because of the gelato, it is one of those places that is something worth experiencing.
