It was recommended by a local to go to this location instead of the one on the Hwy. Yes, there are two different John's BBQs very close to one another and they aren't a chain.

It's an adorable, rustic looking log cabin building with a pond and picnic table out front. The drive-thru menu is huge as they have a menu selection much larger than I've seen at any other BBQ joint. The inside consists of divided rooms which make it feel quaint and homey.

I've stopped here before on my way through Moulton to get me some fried dill pickles. Was surprised to see corn dogs on the menu so I thought I'd try one. A little disappointed that it was a basic frozen style corn dog. Oh well, life goes on. The dill pickles were good though, a little salty tasting and a bit greasy, but all in all good.

When I knew that I'd be in Moulton during lunch I decided to make a stop for a full blown meal. Boy did I ever get a full blown meal. The waitress brought me a basket with 4 hushpuppies as she took my drink order. They were crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside with a hint of onion flavor. I ordered the lunch BBQ pork plate which came with two sides. I chose the potato salad and Jailhouse slaw which she stated was spicier than other slaws. I also ordered a small fried dill pickle.

My pork plate was quite large and I'd consider it a good value for the price. The pork was tender and juicy and the BBQ sauce from the table added a hint of sweetness. The BBQ didn't have much of a smoke flavor if that's what you're looking for, but I appreciated how moist it was.

The Jailhouse slaw....well it was a bit too overwhelming for my palette, not for the spice level because it really didn't seem too spicy, it was super tangy-much like a vinegar and mustard combination explosion. It paired wonderfully with a bite of pork but alone was too tangy. I could definitely see it being used as a condiment for a BBQ pork sandwich, which would taste great, but I'm not sure it really makes the best side item.

The potato salad was a cold mayo based salad with chunks of red potatoes. It was good, just not my favorite style of potato salad.

The order of dill pickles seemed much larger than what I had received to-go on my previous visit. They again were very good, but greasy. Nothing a paper towel can't fix.
