My husband and I stayed at the Lakeway Resort so naturally we had to try their on site dining. The first evening we arrived we ordered room service. I offered tortilla soup and a turkey club. Both were decent. My husband ordered a fried green tomato BLT. That also was decent. We shared an appetizer of crab cakes and those were good. You could tell they had probably been frozen before, but not bad. A few days later, we decided to try their breakfast. Now this is where they earned their fourth star. I had a pecan waffle with fresh fruit and it was yummy! I also had eggs and some bacon. They were good. But again, I would think it's really hard to screw up eggs and bacon. That waffle though....love! My husband ordered the migas. Now, being that we are from San Antonio, TX we are used to some of the BEST Mexican breakfast food around. So if course we're a little biased. But they were decent.
Review Source:"Methinks not" is the perfect description. Â Not only does the building look like it has seen better days (torn up carpet, looks like lots of original stuff in there from the 70's), the food is MEH. Â
I would have given 2 stars for the bland food (what is this...a diet for a heart patient?), but I had to take it away because of the bad service and COLD food that should have been piping hot. Â Sides, meat, and fish were all cold.
Service lacks in that:
1. Â These guys don't take away discarded plates when they should
2. Â They don't provide enough utensils at the place settings to actually eat from a buffet
3. Â Refills on tea or water? Â Hello?
Rumor has it that in the past they had a hard time hiring a good chef due to not so great to work for management team... The new manager has hired an awesome new team and everyone seems truly happy to be working here.
The bar side is floor to ceiling windows overlooking the lake with 2 flat screen TVs. The Grill side also has great views of the lake as well as a patio overlooking the awesome 3 level pool below.
The two 1 star complainers are "Lame!!!!" The Bar and Grill serve the same food and the current menu is a mix of healthy salads and "Weekly Fish Special Prepared With a Heart Healthy Diet in Mind" so to the person complaining that they do not have "chicken fingers on the menu!" go to xyz... and Mr. complainer about "High prices" it's a Hotel Restaurant! and the prices are not anymore expensive than a mediocre hotel restaurant without the awesome views...
I have had the Chicken Quesadillas served with Pico and Guac topped with an Adobo sauce ($7) a fresh salad topped with grilled shrimp and nicely seasoned croutons, and a trout topped with smoked almonds and lemon rosemary butter. All past lunch visits have been tasty with great service.
Most recently I had a late breakfast here and it was just about as good as it gets! I sat on the patio enjoying the nice weather while digging into my healthy breakfast of Egg White Omelet with spinach, mushroom and pepper jack cheese served with a side of nicely seasoned breakfast potatoes. The breakfast menu is not on-line but it features all the usual egg dishes Migas etc.. The Omelets are 9.00 with 2 options 50 cents extra for each additional and come with breakfast potatoes, grits, muffin or toast. Egg dishes can be prepared with egg whites or egg beaters for the health conscious dinner!
Bland soup. Â Bland Creole BBQ Shrimp. Â Overly salted chips. Â High prices. Â The only good side is the view and the service, but neither of those makes it worth going when the food is bad. Â The waiter mentioned that the cooks had changed and that may be why the food wasn't good. Â Sounds to me like they have trouble keeping anyone in the kitchen.
