Josie's in a wildly popular local (maybe regional) favorite. I am not sure how it stays busy, being a fairly pricey italian restaurant in the middle of a nearly dead small town. I think it's unusual location is part of the allure of this place.

The portions are large so it often makes sense to share, especially if you order the large size. I've  had the ravioli and lasagna and both were fantastic.

It's a fun place to go every once in awhile for a special occasion and when we are up for the 40 min drive. It makes for a good reason to 'get out of town' and do something different for a dinner occasion.

Like others have mentioned, they are one of those few places that have refused to give in to the credit card movement. So be prepared to pay with cash or check!

We have been here a couple times, I personally am not a huge fan but the family is just over the moon about this place.
Its out in the middle of noooo where. Without GPS I would probably never find it.
The fried ravioli is what seems to be every ones favorite here. It is very good. The bread is baked fresh there nice soft white bread and served with anti pasta that every one really likes.
First time I went here I had the chicken Alfredo. Not even in my top 5 favs but okay. this time I had Spaghetti with meat sauce. Its pretty good but honestly, I'm just not won over. Ill stick with the fried ravioli and the good times had with the family. I've been told the meatball is very good as well.
I have been told you must get there early basically at the doors opening at five or you will be waiting.

Great place to eat i love the food here. The bread and olive oil it exceptional. the entrees are all very good that i have tried. It is off the beaten path and when you drive into town you will think you missed a turn till you see all the cars parked around the restaurant. Be sure you have cash they do not take credit cards.

Scammon, KS is essentially a ghost town.

By this, I mean that the "downtown" area is almost completely empty. Storefronts stand vacant and there is a small Pepsi machine...that sells Coke.

    Eerie...

Josie's is clearly doing something right. After all, it seems to have survived the Scammon curse.  It's really a thriving hot spot that is able to survive in this small town despite being open only four days a week for four hours a day.  Consider this New Yorker impressed.

Family owned, Josie's offers delicious Italian food at slightly exorbitant for the area prices ($13 for a meal truly is pricey for Southeast Kansas, but a steal for my neighborhood in New York City).

The lasagna with red sauce is a revelatory experience, and the meat ravioli (meatballs shoved into ravioli dough...) were truly the surprise hit of the evening. The manicotti with red sauce was equally delicious, as was the chicken parm.

Everyone at my table (a group of 7) licked their plates clean. As "sophisticated New Yorkers" this rarely happens.

Josie's is truly perfection. Cash only, pricey, and delicious.

If only I weren't back in New York...

Good Italian food. Their red sauce is a bit on the sweeter side.  I had the lasagna and it was really good! My husband had the chicken parm and he said it was just okay. We had to drive about 45 minutes to get there; Not sure if it's worth the drive, but if you are in the area, then it would be a great option. WARNING: They do not accept credit or debit cards, bring cash! We had to go to the ATM at a gas station down the street that was very old school and had a $20 max. Luckily my husband was able to sweet talk the attendant and get $40.
