Really fun place.  Biker Bar with great bands and a small cover. Really nice & friendly owner. Cool shots, taste like Lifesavers. Girls can dance on the bar...Guilty ;)

Came here the night before St. Paddys and had so much fun! The bar wan't to packed and they had an excellent band playing some great hits all night long. The owner is such a nice and caring person, hes always talking to people and seeing how everything and everyone is doing. He also had catered in Corn beef and Cabbage for no charge. Drinks are cheap and strong!

What makes an authentic biker bar? How 'bout inexpensive strong drinks, older women who know better but don't, a parade of bikes parked outside and oh yeah...biker dudes.

And how does that authentic biker bar break the mold? By being a place where 1% bike clubs and other clubs are allowed to wear cuts and they all get along just fine, where black and white bikers laugh at the same jokes and even play similar music (Lynard Skynard to Al Green) and the only unfriendly face you might get is a guy waiting on a beer 'cause it's too crowded with too many happy and drunk people on a Friday or Saturday night.

Since bar manager Tara Crawley took over, the women who work behind the bar have looked nothing less then stunning and the service continues to impress. You gotta love sexy chicks quick to give you a beer and say F-you in the same breath if you cross them wrong.

Stop watching Gangland and expect to see dead bodies or fights break out randomly. Most the people who come here are  just happy to be getting off from work or are complaining about not having worked in so long. They're more interested in sharing a beer with you and a laugh then beating your face in.

A good biker bar that breaks the mold. Enjoy.

    Male/Female Ratio: 2.5/1.0

    Sociability of People: Normal

General Attractiveness of People (out of 10): 5.5

Jugs & Strokers is an establishment for bikers. The first time I went, I feared for my safety given the general perception about bikers and violence. I am not a biker, but I have been surprised by how cool most people at Jugs are.

If you're not a biker, a tough guy, or a bad girl, then there's probably nothing for you here. I overhear a LOT of bike talk (makes/models, customization, maintenance, etc). This is by no means a nightclub or black-tie affair, and no one should come here expecting that.

If I was really searching for something to complain about, I guess I would say that I wish the crowd was a little younger, there was more dancing, and that the M/F ratio was higher on the F. But then it wouldn't be a biker bar.

The happy hour beers are a good deal, and the crowd is blue collar. There is a pool table, a juke box, a comprehensive collection of draft beers and liquor, finger food, effervescent female bartenders, and great live music at night. Overall a good experience. There are police constantly patrolling the highway outside, so be sure to have a DD or otherwise drink responsibly.

Ok...WHAT? I can't believe the other reviews. What about this place gave you any expectations for it whatsoever?
For one, the name -  my friends and I came here BECAUSE it sounded like a strip joint. Did you really expect it to be anything else besides trashy? It's named 'Jugs and Strokers' for crying out loud. Second, it's in Merrick, NY. This is Long Island, people. They will serve you beer and be surly, that's what happens get over it.
Why would I give it 5-stars you ask? Well it capped off an awesome night for myself and 2 friends.
It all started by taking the LONG trek from Princeton, NJ to Merrick, NY via only public transportation. We grabbed a case of miller bottles and went to the Steve Miller Band Concert at Jones Beach that night.
After polishing off the case in the parking lot we entered to find that the Jones Beach Amphitheater DOESN'T SERVE BEER!
Luckily, we were able to finagle our way into the VIP section(where they serve beer) at barely any extra charge and we continued drinking and seeing Steve Miller rock face. We didn't want the night to end...

    Enter Jugs and Strokers:
We rented a hotel for the night and RIGHT next door was this place. We went in expecting to just have a guys night of being hammered and seeing bewbz. Instead...

-There was a cover band(surprisingly good) there playing all the good classic rock stuff.

-We were the youngest people there by at least 10 years.

-A majority of the females were attractive.

-There were randomly three thrones(yea, like huge chairs) against a wall and when we sat in them a lady came up and took our drink orders.

    - A huge bar making it very easy to get booze.

    - Beautiful older biker chicks.

    - Angry biker dudes.

    - A women said 'I'd have all of you guys at the same time, right now, come outside'...(don't get your hopes up she disappeared).

    So yea, awesome.

    Pointless tidbit:
The next day we got breakfast down the road and when I asked if the Yanks had won the night before I was told 'We don't give a shit about the Skankees'.  Another patron leaned over and whispered 'this is mets country'....

Were you ever having such a great time that you just didn't want your night to end?? Well, that's exactly how I felt the night I was at Grillfire's. Unfortunately, by 10:30, two of my HS friends were ready to call it a night. Then, my cell rings and it's another friend who happened to be at this bar down the road and asked if I wanted to meet her there. Hell yeah!! I was definitely NOT ready to call it a night!! But, then my friend told me to call the friend she was with on her cell when I got there so she could come outside to get me. I really didn't like the sound of that so when I asked my friend why, she told me that I might feel a "little" intimidated by some people that were hanging out there, especially the Bouncer, didn't go into any more detail and hung up. Luckily, my other HS friend that wanted to hang out longer overheard me talking and the conversation went something like this:

Nancy - you're meeting up with Lisa? Would she mind if I came along, I'd really like to see her again.
Me - definitely, she'd be so surprised!! She's at Jugs & Strokers, the bar with those fake soldiers outside.
Nancy - Michelle, do you know what kind of place this is??
Me - no, what?? (answering in a slightly nervous tone)
    Nancy - I think it's a Gay/Lesbian Bar.
Me - NO, you're effin kidding me!!!

So, now I'm thinking: well, I know my friend has been hanging out with this woman friend for almost a year, they're both divorced and they work together. Was this my friend's way of breaking some unbelievable "news" to me?? Without giving it a second thought, me and Nancy headed over to Jugs and Strokers. Ok, it is NOT a Gay/Lesbian Bar, it's a Biker's Dive Bar!! At least 20, really big, bikes were parked outside in rows. I just had to laugh because this bar is just so opposite of any place I could ever imagine myself hanging out at (even funnier, if my husband only knew!!). I called this friend and she came out right away, assuring us that it really wasn't as bad as it looked (I was seriously doubting this). We paid the $5 cover charge to this extremely huge, tattooed dude at the door. He was so big I could have probably strained my neck looking up at him. To sum it up, these are some things you may expect to see at Jugs & Strokers:

    * Mostly all the ladies there were dressed in black tank tops with their boobs so exposed they might as well have been topless.
    * The bartender, Cynthia, is extremely loud with a big tattoo on her arm that read "No Mercy". She also likes to throw the "plastic" shot glasses on the floor and gets your attention by blowing this whistle she has hanging around her neck.
    * Everybody on the dance floor loves to Dirty Dance.
    * Biker guys that will not take no for an answer when you tell them you don't want them to buy you a drink until Cynthia blows her whistle at them.
    * Some wild decorations hanging on the walls, like the head of a woman whose expression I can only best describe as "screaming"??

Oh, one more thing. If you're dancing and Cynthia's flashlight happens to shine on your ass, you have to stop and step up onto the bar and continue your dancing (ladies only). There is also this "pole" up there if you're interested. There is a kitchen and it's open all night, free BBQ every Sunday afternoon, there's a pool table with a blow up Biker Doll nearby with a cigarette hanging out of her mouth and there is live music every weekend. Me and Nancy didn't stay very long, so I couldn't tell you much about the band that was playing. I was told that they're Heavy Metal though (surprised?). Believe me, I love my friend with all my heart and would do anything in the world for her - except - ever step foot in this bar again!!

Note: You'll probably have the greatest time here if you're into this type of scene, but it just wasn't for me.
