I have been eating at K-2 for over twenty years now as it was the only descent restaurant in Bay City for a long time.  The quality of the food and service has declined significantly over the years.

I was in Bay City last week for work.  We have eaten at K-2 several times over the years.  Never again.

Service was horrible, the restaurant is dark and smells like an ashtray.  This is one of those places that has large servings, a salad bar, and a baked potato bar.  It is poorly lit so you can't really see how well they are doing with respect to cleanliness.  If you just want sizable portions and don't care about quality or cleanliness, this place is probably okay for you.

As I was there with two co-workers, we ordered and waited.....and waited.....finally the waitress brought out one of my co-workers food, this after seeing how the adjacent table that had ordered after our group of three, had received their food and were about finished by the time my co-worker received his food.  About 5 minutes later, my second co-worker received her food.  Still no sign of my food.  5 minutes later the waitress came by to indicate that my food was about done.  I told her to keep it, I no longer wanted the food.  About 3-5 minutes after that, she arrived back at the table with my food - which I sent back to the kitchen.  I never saw a manager, and it appears they really don't care if they have unhappy customers.  I left and went across the street to Whatta Burger - where they prepared my order in a timely manner.

The food and service are just OK, but the Salad Bar "rocks" and the portion sizes are "Texamuges". Leaving me feeling stuffed when I leave the place. I have sampled several of the steaks and found they vary in quality from visit to visit.

But since Bay City doesn't have to much epicurean delights to offer, the food and prices are adequate to keep me coming back

Great food and great lunch specials! I have eaten here a couple of times for lunch and the service was good one time and not so good the next. Both times I have eaten the blackended catfish and Must say that the portion size is very generous for the price and it was VERY tasty!

They also have take out specials during the week for $5.99 and I hear they are very good. The one time I have ordered take out I had the avacado burger which was the special of the day and ut was great!

I highly reccomend this place for anyone who comes to Bay City!

K-2 is the go-to lunch/dinner spot in town. The food is good, not the best. The meat dishes are hit or miss. Sometimes their dry, sometimes not. The veggie side dishes are overcooked much of the time. The grilled zucchini and grilled asparagus are pretty mushy.

If you like fried food, this is the place to go. The chicken fried steak is as big as the platter it's served on -- then it's smothered with cream gravy. My brother enjoys the fried shrimp when he's in town.

The burgers and sandwiches are pretty decent as well.

There is a pretty decent salad bar in the middle of the restaurant. It has just about every fresh veggie or topping that you could want. Every day there are two new soups to try at the end of the salad bar.

If you choose to get a baked potato, you can doctor it up at the potato bar. There are vats of butter and sour cream (nice visual, no?) along with green onions, shredded cheese and bacon bits. That bar also has rolls, biscuits and Texas toast...and two different kinds of cobbler. If you love carbs, this is your heaven!

All in all, K-2 is pretty decent. It's probably the best place in town to get a sit down meal.
